Playoffs and scrimmages are excluded. Transportation 8. Excluding band, away competitions are to be within a 60 mile radius. 9. A maximum of 540 miles for all competitions travel is allotted to each extra-curricular high school band. 10. Bands are not to travel to away football games. 11. Bands are to be allowed to travel to football and/or basketball regional or state finals. 12. Bands may fundraise to finance any travel expenses not allotted. 13. Teams traveling to the same location are to ride together when schedules permit (e.g., Varsity and JV teams, Varsity Girls Softball and Varsity Girls Soccer). 14. When traveling to the same event and when schools do not have enough students to fill a bus, joint traveling by schools will be used (e.g., ten students from each high school traveling to a regional swim meet, ten band students
4 4 from each high school traveling to the same competition or performance). 15. Buses are not to be used to transport fans. Note: The 60 mile limit does not apply to district games. It also does not apply to sports where there are contracts already signed for the school year. Gatekeepers and/or Other Support Jobs 16. Number of Gatekeepers and/or Other Support Jobs Per Event: Five Varsity Football Three JV Football Two Varsity & JV Volleyball Three Varsity & JV Girls Basketball Three Varsity& JV Boys Basketball Two Wrestling Two Varsity & JV Softball Two Varsity & JV Boys Soccer Two Varsity & JV Girls Soccer 17. Gatekeeper pay can include the following assignments: gatekeeper (sells and collects admission tickets), clock keeper, announcer, score keeper, or book keeper. 18. Gatekeepers are to be paid $25.00 per event. 19. Varsity and JV games back to back are to count as one event. 20. Schools who would like to hire more than the allotted number of gatekeepers must pay the school district in full the amount to reimburse the district. 21. All VHSL reimbursements for gatekeepers or scorekeepers for district, regional, or state events are to be submitted to the school district office. 22. Non-exempt Fair Labor Standards Act (FLSA) employees are not to be used in these positions as to avoid the need for overtime compensation. Passes 23. Only approved VHSL passes are to be accepted. 24. Bedford County Public Schools employees are to be admitted to county VHSL events along with one additional person. For one additional person to be admitted, the employee must be present. Security Pay 25. Security Officers are to be paid $30.00 per hour. 26. Schools who would like to hire more than the allotted number of security officers must pay the school district in full the amount to reimburse the district. 27. Each high school will be allotted $8,600 for security during extra-curricular activities. Number of Security Officers Per Event 28. Spring: To Come Out of Extras - Varsity & JV Baseball To Come Out of Extras - Varsity & JV Softball To Come Out of Extras - Varsity & JV Boys Soccer To Come Out of Extras - Varsity & JV Girls Soccer Six Extras for Spring Large Crowds Dances: Number, Gatekeepers, Security, & Custodian Per School Liberty High School - $12,250 Staunton River High School - $15,015 Forest Middle School - $4,000 Bedford Middle School - $4,000 Staunton River Middle School - $4, Band allotments are to be used for the following: new instruments, instrument repairs, music, textbooks for class, and marching band. Field Maintenance 36. Central Office will coordinate and pay $6, per school for annual routine field maintenance. 31. Gatekeepers, security, and custodian pay for dances are to be paid for by admission or by the group sponsoring the event. Heating/Cooling and electricity costs will be paid by the district. 32. Four dances are approved (e.g., Fall Back to School, Homecoming, Winter, and Prom/After Prom). School Allotments 33. Each high school will be allotted $12, to help support programs with little to no gates (e.g., swim, golf, cross country, track, tennis, etc.). 34.
