The party will begin at 6:00 pm and dinner will be served at 6:30 pm. The little dancers will be performing and there will be a visit from Santa. Topics: Report on the Hallowen Party, the dancers and planning for the rest of the year. Bring your favorite snack and plan to attend! This is also that time when membership renewals are due. 2 Halloween Party The annual Basque Club of Utah Halloween Party was held on October 28. We had a full house, the food was great and everyone had a lot of fun! Thank you to Sonia Castañon and Tony Barajas for chairing the Halloween party. The hall was full and it was a scary good time! Also, thanks to everyone who helped set up and clean up the hall. The winners of the Halloween party costume contest: Sophie Barajas as Frida Kahlo Dominika Flesher as Evie from The Descen-dants Ava Johnson as Elsa from Frozen Dinner Dance on January 27 The annual dinner dance will be held on Saturday, January 27, We have a new location for the dinner dance this year. The club will hold a raffle for Basque items and we will also have a performance by our dancers, Utah ko Triskalariak. More information will be in the January newsletter. This IS our biggest fund raiser of the year so please volunteer to help. Thanks again for volunteering. We need all members to help make this event a success. Club Member Presentation Basque Club of Utah member, Caryn Larrinaga spoke at the Basque Educational Organization s Basque Cultural Day event in San Francisco, CA on October 28. She participated along with other Basque writers and artists. Her presentation was on her book, Galtzagorriak and Other Creatures and she also discussed the folklore that inspired the original stories. See pictures on Page 5 of the newsletter. 2

3 NEWS Congratulations to: Adrian and Kaitlyn Berriochoa, on the birth of their son, Henry Club Member Receives Award Basque Club of Utah member, Carina Barajas, was presented with a plaque from NABO to thank her for all of the artwork she has done for them. Stephanie (Archibeque) and Whit Taylor, on the birth of their baby girl, Jacqueline. Condolences to: Nancy Trevino and Christina & Dom Echeverria and family, on the death of Nancy's sister. The family of Grace Mainvil, longtime Treasurer for NABO, who passed away last month. A Speedy Recovery to: Pantxo Aguerre, who is recovering from a heart attack Most recently, she designed the t-shirts for the international Mus tournament held in Chino and San Francisco, California. 4 Club Member wins the Silver Quill Basque Club of Utah member Caryn Larrinaga won the Silver Quill award for her book, Donn s Hill. The award was presented by the League of Utah writers in the adult book category for published books. Euskara Classes Euskara Classes are in full swing and we are enjoying learning together. We have two groups. The class on Tuesday evenings continues from when we first began offering classes in And there is a new class that began with 7 participants and 6 online participants.
