Eat Soup, Help Others Empty Bowls Event Helps To Raise Awareness For Hunger In Siouxland A total of twenty bowls were donated by MVAOCOU Emmalee Scott Empty Bowls is the most successful fundraising event for the Food Bank of Siouxland. This year it took place on February 2 in South Sioux City at the Delta Conference Center. MVAOCOU high school was contacted by the Food Bank to donate ceramic artwork; a request that was gladly accepted. Buying a ticket to the event gets you a hand crafted bowl donated by Siouxland students and local artisians. The bowl symbolizes the hunger in the community and serves as a reminder that many people actually have an empty bowl. The Food Bank of Siouxland served up soup, bread, and dessert for the guests that attended. Also included was a popcorn bar presented by Koated Kernels and a dessert bar presents by Hy-Vee. New for this year was a live auction and live music. The money raised from the silent auction, live auction and raffles continue to help Jackson Krusen the needy in the community. Art students participated by creating bowls for the event or donating a bowl they made during Ceramics class. Students that participated were Kolton Nelson, Cody Hayes, Hanna Mills, Ellen Mallory and Jackson Krusen. The event had the best turn out yet with over 600 people in attendance. What a nice way to give back to the community and raise awareness. All Josie wants to do is marry Liam Page her highschool sweetheart. Liam is an up and coming country star. Will Liam stay in town to get to know Billie or will he leave like he did eight years ago? This was a good movie and I recommend people to go and watch it. If you like cheesy and cliche movies then you would want to see this one. Billie, Liam s daughter, will be your favorite character throughout the movie. 3 Maple Valley Anthon Oto Charter Oak Ute The RAM Write-Up Page 3 History Behind The Holiday Cameron Brenner Have you ever wondered how Valentine s Day came about? There are several versions of how it originated, but they all involve Valentinus. Valentinus was a priest who served during the third century in Rome. Emperor Claudius II decided that single men made better soldiers than those with wives and families. He outlawed marriage for young men. Valentinus rebelled against Claudius and continued to perform marriages for FEBRUARY BIRTHDAYS young lovers in secret. When Valentine s actions were discovered, Claudius ordered that he be put to death. V a l e n t i n e s Day became a festival for St.Valentine for many many years. It wasn t until the Middle Ages that Valentine s Day was a day proclaimed for romance. It was approximately celebrated in the 1700 s. Now you know the acclaimed true story of how Valentine s Day occurred! VALENTINE S GIFT GUIDE Shelby Davis With Super Bowl fifty-two now past the entire country is full of emotion. The Philadelphia Eagles brought home their first Lombardi trophy in a upset. Patriots fans everywhere are saddened by the loss but still have faith in the team stating We will be back next SUPER BOWL LII Guess This BABY year we re not done yet. The Eagles came out swinging in the first half with 291 total yards and 3 touchdowns, the half ended the Eagles leading At the half Justin Timberlake performed some of his top hits as well as a song by the late Prince, a Minneapolis native. In the second half the Patriots began fighting back. With seven points in the third quarter and twelve in the fourth the Patriots were back in the game but a strip sack by Brandon Graham changed the game in the Eagles favor. With thirty seconds left Tom Brady pushed his team forward another forty yards before throwing an incomplete hail mary ending the game with a Eagles win. Some people like the flowers, chocolates and teddy bears for Valentine s Day. Others enjoy the simple and less expensive gifts that touch the heart; but it is the thought that really counts. It s not that you thought to get something, but you put some thought into what you got. Some people do not want the same old gifts they normally recieve, but instead want something more sincere. Try making a cute card so your Valentine knows you care. Sometimes expensive gifts can be a little overwhelming. You really do not need to spend a whole lot of money to impress your special someone, just put some thought into what they may like. ADVISOR Mrs. Dirksen Brylie Boettcher Last month s Guess This Baby was Haley Drenkhahn. This month s issue had a multiple choice consisting of... A) Connor Beeck B) Haden Kuhl C) Ely Fundermann D) Jackson Krusen The staff member asked was Mr. Scholl, with the answer of, I m going to go with Connor. Brenna Lansink was up next answering, I m going to go with Jackson. Next was Caleb Shupe saying, Ummm..Jackson? The last two people asked were Cameron Brenner and Kendra Creese both answering with, Is it Jackson? The next issue of the Ram Write- Up will announce who the baby is. Thank you to everyone who participated this month. Eva Dear Eva, I think that my boyfriend may have cheated on me with my best friend. Another friend told me she saw them together. Do I believe her or just let the situation go? Dear Reader, First of all, is this friend a reliable source? You don t want to believe a friend who is known for gossiping. Then, ask your boyfriend and best friend where they were on the night your other friend saw them. If their stories check out then you have nothing to worry about. If their stories don t check out then you need to confront them. Find a time to sit down and confront the both of them together. If they confess to the cheating then you need to cut the both of them out of your life because you don t need that kind of negativity.

4 Maple Valley Anthon Oto Charter Oak Ute The RAM Write-Up Page 4 Emmalee Scott Ellen Mallory Brylie Boettcher Jennifer Brooke Stallons was brought into this world by Ken and Shelley Stallons on August 20, She joined her older brother Kyle. Kennedy s favorite memories from high school consist of, hanging out with friends before and after school and the time two students got into a fist fight over a controversy of who was better, Goku or Superman. You have probably spotted Kennedy, marching on the football field at halftime performances, sitting in the bleachers at a basketball game, playing tunes with the band and, also at spring, winter, and pops concerts, singing with the choir. Kennedy s advice to future Rams here at MVAOCOU High School is DO YOUR HOMEWORK. Kennedy has been a fun and positive role model in the band and vocal room, and on the field, courts, and stage, when performing. We wish you the best of luck in all of your future plans after graduation! favorite memory was when a student puked all over Mr. Dose s classroom and I just sat there because I didn t think he was actually going to. Her most embarrassing memory was when, I didn t know what a gift receipt was. The event that she looked forward to every year was homecoming. Wyatt Ray Trucke was brought into this world on June 8, 1999, by parents Garrett and Amy Trucke. T h r o u g h o u t high school Trucke has been involved in football and FFA. Her high school experience has been both long and memorable. Stallons says that the biggest differences between this year and last year are, coming to a new school and having to worry about college and graduation. The subject she wishes she would ve tried harder in is math. If she was a freshman again she would have, tried harder in school and talked to more people. Her advice to underclassmen is, Try hard when you re young because it pays off. Stallons plans on pursuing a career in Psychology while attending the University of Iowa. Good luck Jennifer! been being able to get out of school to go to work at 12 for work release. If he could start high school over again he would try harder in Math because he isn t very good at it. Trucke s advice to underclassmen would be graduate early. His senioritis set in on the day he started his senior year. He would describe his high school experience at MVAO and COU as a good time. 5 Maple Valley Anthon Oto Charter Oak Ute The RAM Write-Up Page 5 Cameron Brenner Nathaniel Dean Ramirez was born on August 23, His parents are Leonard Ramirez & Charlesa Dean. He has a total of five siblings. They are Chris Ramirez, Leonard Ramirez Jr., Jhonny Ramirez, Maggie Ramirez, and Venessa Johnson. His most embarrassing in-school memory was failing Spanish I his freshman year. He later decided as a junior to retake the class and had more success the second time around. The biggest difference for Ramirez from this year compared to last was his feeling of being the upperclassmen. This year he feels like a lot of underclassmen look up to him compared to last year. He strives to always be a good role model for others so they can succeed in whatever their passion happens to be. Ramirez s advice to underclassmen is to always try your best and to stay focused. He wants them to know that is how you succeed in life. If Ramirez could be a freshman again, he would try harder in all of his classes and focus more on sports. Ramirez enjoyed attending wrestling meets and basketball games because he got to watch his friends compete which was entertaining. Senioritis started to set in for Ramirez at the beginning of this year. He will miss high school, but he s ready to start the next chapter in his life. Ramirez plans to pursue a degree in criminal justice. As for a college, he is still undecided. We wish you the best of luck with your future plans!
