Our athletes have competed in state championships, have played on national teams, and have earned All American honors. Although we are proud of all our accomplishments, we value teamwork, respect, character and discipline even more. Students at all levels of sports - from the brand-new freshman discovering cross country running to the seasoned veteran of soccer - learn how to compete with dignity, honor, grace and love of the game. We don t measure the success of our program by our win-loss record; we measure success by the friendships, personal growth, school spirit, respectful rivalries and level of commitment each team member shows. Unfortunately, in the sports arena today, athletes of all ages and levels are exposed to the negative effects of excessive media hype, commercialism, and unsportsmanlike behaviors. Good sportsmanship, at all levels, should include positive modeling by everyone involved including athletes, coaches and spectators. Our athletic vision is Trojan PRIDE. Trojan Pride is the Personal Responsibility In Delivering Excellence. This vision involves athletes, parents, coaches, administrators, staff and community. 19 2014 DOWNERS GROVE NORTH FALL SPORTS PROGRAM 1 9/15/14 10:29 AM Page 19 Band Directors: William Miller Brayer Teague Percussion Instructor: Mark Botti Color Guard Instructor: Crystal Zaragoza Drill Instructor: Alex Rivera Drum Majors: Evan Culligan (Senior) Tine Greene (Senior) Megan Hung (Junior) Ashley Pirl (Junior) The Music The Trojan Marching Band is pleased to present In a New York State of Mind, which celebrates the upcoming performance of the DGN Concert Band Program at New York s Carnegie Hall in March of The show includes arrangements Sing, Sing, Sing famously performed at Carnegie Hall by the Benny Goodman Orchestra, Gershwin s Rhapsody in Blue, iend Like Me from Disney s hit film turned Broadway smash Aladdin, and Bernstein s Tonight from West Side Story. In addition, the band will be performing with the Athenas Dance Team at each half time performance. Those selections will include a combination of today s pop hits and classic songs from the past fifty years. The Band The Trojan Marching Band is the largest band ensemble at North High, where over 240 students participate in three concert bands, two jazz ensembles, a percussion ensemble and a variety of related performance opportunities. The Band prides itself on its high-energy approach to music, musicianship, sportsmanship, and teamwork. Performing original arrangements by their directors, commissions, and the finest published literature, the Pre-Game show consists of the Fast Entry, DGN Fanfare, North High School ng (with Block "N" Drill), the National Anthem, and special music for the kick-off. The Band plays many tunes in the stands to keep the crowd involved, and takes pride in the fact that they "make some noise" (vocally)... enough so to distract the other team. Each home football game concludes with the playing and singing of the North High Alma Mater with the football team standing within the ranks of the band. Past performances include national and international invitations to participate in the Chicago Thanksgiving Day Parade, the St. Patrick s Day Parade in Dublin, Ireland, as well as performances in Florida and Washington, D.C. The band has also performed at Northwestern University football games in Evanston, IL as the featured band during both Pre-Game and Half-Time shows, and has twice performed the National Anthem for the Chicago White x. In 2008 the band performed in the 2008 Indianapolis 500 Parade. The band most recently performed in the 2011 London New Years Day Parade, which was witnessed by over 500,000 people in London, and broadcast to at least 220 million people across the globe. 11th Annual Alumni Band Performance North High School invites all band alumni to join the 11th Annual Alumni Band to participate in a special halftime performance during the school s Homecoming game on October 24th. The varsity football game versus Hinsdale Central High School will take place at 7:30 pm. This is always a fun event for our alumni and community, says North High School s Marching Band Director Bill Miller. We ve found that school spirit endures throughout generations, and music is one way we can celebrate and stay connected with each other. In the past, seven decades of alumni have performed together during the event. In recent years, one family has had three generations represented. Band alumni will perform with current Trojan marching band members. Participants may use their instruments or borrow one from the school. In previous years, the number of participants has ranged from 40 to 60. The band will rehearse just prior to the performance. The school requests that participants register by October 10th.
