Australian Galloway Association News From the AGA Office Annual General Meeting 2018 The Association s Annual General Meeting will be held on Sunday 11th March, 2018, at the Ocean Shores Country Club. Ocean Shores is located in the Northern Rivers area of New South Wales, approximately 50 kilometres south of Coolangatta (Gold Coast Airport). Following the AGM, a members Forum will be held. A field day will be held on Saturday 10th March and a dinner will be held that night, also at the Ocean Shores Country Club. If there is any thing in particular you would like covered during the course of the field day, please let us know. Accommodation is available at the Ocean Shores Motel and rooms have been reserved for AGA members. When booking in, please mention you re with the AGA for a 10% discount off the advertised online rates. Ocean Shores Motel is situated close to the Ocean Shores Country Club and a shuttle bus runs between the two. Please call (02) to make your reservation. Once the details are finalised for the Field Day, Dinner, and the costs involved, they will be circulated to members. Mark the date in your diaries, and we hope to see you there. Committee Nominations As the AGM is being held earlier in the year than has been done for the past several years, if you are thinking of nominating for a Committee position you will need to have your nomination to the Association s office by Thursday 25th January. There will be three vacancies at three year terms. A nomination form is included with this newsletter. A separate will be forwarded regarding this. December 2017 Welcome members to our Christmas Newsletter. A great up and coming 2018/19 season with firstly the 12 th World Galloway Conference - 28 th September to 3 rd October 2018, coinciding with Melbourne Royal Show hosted by the ABGA. Canberra Royal show follows 5 months later, 22 nd to 24 th February 2019, where the Galloway Family takes to the stage as the Feature breed, hosted by the Australian Galloway Association. A great opportunity for our Galloway Family to participate in, with 2 shows within months of one another. On behalf of the Committee I wish you all and your Galloways a Merry Christmas and a Happy New Year. Kind Regards Shane Smeathers President AGA Fees 2018 At a recent Committee Meeting the fees were set for You will be pleased to know the Committee decided to keep them at the same levels and there is no increase. Membership will be due by 31 January 2018, and invoices will be forwarded separately. AGA Office - Christmas Closure The AGA Office will be closed from 4pm on Wednesday 20th December and will re-open on Monday 8th January 2018.

Yea Show A first for Balytyckle Miniature Galloways I decided to take my newly halter broken youngsters to Yea Show, as it is just around the corner, and the organisers were calling for local support. Marty, myself and our two babies, were the only Galloway family there; which meant we did extremely well in our class! Both Spectators and other Cattle folk, were impressed with the quiet and easy going behaviour of our young heifer and bull. Youngsters Strutting their Stuff! Well Done Kate Hepburn for winning overall Supreme Cattle exhibit at Mullumbimby Show, with her Mini Beltie FOXTAIL HILL MIA FTH M4 09/10/2016. Judge Joe Watt and two associate judge s comments were that, what put this 12 month old heifer on top, was the powerful structure and capacity she had. Mia and Katie achieved the overall Supreme of Show Perpetual Trophy against 60 exhibits, including: Angus, Santa s, Charolais, Belted Galloways, Speckle Park, Dexter, Devon and Limousin. Congratulations Kate from the Australian Galloway Association. I m certain that with a few more shows under our belts, our nerves will diminish and I ll remember all the things I forgot to do this time. Having said that, we did have a great time and made some wonderful new friends. Sonya Heron

Red Hill Show Well, once again I was the only exhibitor showing Galloways at Red Hill Show and I only had one entry, my beautiful cow Sylvia and her 7 day old calf Gloria. I freaked when I saw the entries all stunning cows having a practice run before hitting the road to Sydney and a team of Speckle Parks, holidaying at Flinders, between Canberra Show and Sydney Show. WEPT! However, little Sylvia did our Galloway family proud, winning Senior Cow and then Reserve Champion Female. The judge commented that she had the fullest udder of all the cows and a beautiful calf at foot. I was on the microphone and had to hold in my excitement and remain anonymous. I volunteered for microphone duties, because it always bothered me, at Red Hill; that the cattle audience were never told about the various breeds. So before the show I got a list of entries and studied up on the breeds and their origins. I also organized Red Hill Show s first ever Calf Fancy Dress. This was a great success and I m sure it will become an annual event. I thought my grand daughters were pretty cute dressed as white Galloways, but the winning entry was superb. All in all it was a great day and I encourage members to hone their cattle skills at local shows and make lots of new community contacts and cattle sales Patrice Hunder Torcroft Miniature Galloways Entries for the Calf Fancy Dress at the Red Hill Show

Torcroft Miniature Galloways: Sylvia and her seven day old Calf Gloria. Sylvia won Senior Cow and Reserve Champion Female at the Red Hill Show Finally Congratulations to all our AGA family who went out to shows with your animals. Regardless of if, or where you placed, thank you for getting our fabulous breed out and about! We hope you all have a safe and happy Christmas and New Year with your loved ones. Looking forward to a fabulous 2018 from all of us on the AGA committee. Year Letter for 2016 M 2017 N 2018 P

Buy Swap Sell (no Cattle) In future Newsletters we would like to include any show gear, equipment, and associated cattle, or farm machinery that you are seeking, selling, or would like to trade. Please contact Sonya Heron at Our next news letter is planned for early in the new year. **We are still having problems with registration certificates, please be patient, we will get them to you as soon as possible.
