1 JIPMER SPANDAN 2017 Cult Rule Book MAJOR STAGE EVENTS (Les Beaux Arts) 1.CHOREA- Dance -CHOREA (DUET DANCE) Made for each other! Duet Dance can be of any genre. All duet dances will be judged under the same category. Time limit: 5 minutes Props are allowed, but not Stage sets. Use of props MUST be intimated to the cult desk at the time of registration. Timings are to be strictly followed. In case any team exceeds the time limit on the stage, it will be given negative points and is also subject to disqualification at the judges discretion. In case of any discrepancies, decisions of the cult team will be final PRIZE CATEGORIES Best Duet Dance
2 Proficiency of steps, Costumes, Choreography, Coordination, overall appeal Note: Props include objects, which are carried by participants (like sticks, swords, pots).chairs, tables, screens and backdrops, which are placed on stage, come under stage settings -CHOREA - GROUP ( NON-THEME DANCE) Charm us with your grace Put wonder on every face - The Stage is yours. Time limit: 10 minutes. Maximum participants: 10 members per team. Minimum participants: 3 members for group dance. Props are allowed, but not Stage sets. Use of props must be intimated to the cult desk at the time of registration. Indian and Western dances will be judged separately. A pictorial background can be projected on LED screen. The picture should be given at the time of the soundtrack submission The songs should be submitted in.wav format in a USB drive strictly, before 3 pm on the day of the event. PRIZE CATEGORIES Best group- Non theme Indian, Non theme Western Proficiency of steps, Costumes, Choreography, Coordination, overall appeal Note: Props include objects, which are carried by participants (like sticks, swords, pots).chairs, tables, screens and backdrops, which are placed on stage, come under stage settings -CHOREA- GROUP (THEME) The ultimate test of graceful creativity. Maximum 15 members per team and Minimum 3 members. Introduction can be given (from the technical hut). This must be intimated at the time of registration. One member from the team should report to the cult desk for the same 1 hour prior to the start Running commentary not allowed. Microphone will not be provided once the dance starts Maximum time: 20 minutes (including introduction).
4 Should be an innovative piece conveyed only by dance and music. Can be Indian, western or Fusion. Lyrics with meaningful words are not allowed. Dance drama pieces are not credited for. The dance should be original. Props are allowed, but not Stage sets. Use of props MUST be intimated to the cult desk at the time of registration. Timings are to be strictly followed. ALAAP- Indian Music Stay true to the roots. Or fuse one raag with another. Or create your own along the way! The stage is all set for you to mesmerize us into a night of pure musical ecstasy!

Items after 30 minutes will be regarded as invalid Extra time for tuning shall be given to the team performing first on recommendation of the tech committee In case of an unforeseen event such as rains, the teams might be asked to cut down their performance time based on judges discretion. For example teams might be asked to reduce their performance to 2 songs. No requests from participants will be entertained. For vocals, a minimum of one accompaniment is required One accompaniment for solo instrumental is allowed Pre recorded beats/rhythm/songs on keyboard are not allowed. Single fingered chords and accompaniment on keyboard not allowed To be considered for the best vocalist prize, the participant should have performed a solo, and the judging will be based on his/her overall performance In case of any discrepancies, decisions of the cult team will be final. PRIZE CATEGORIES Best Number Solo, Group and Duet (1) Vocalist: male and female(1) Instrumental: Solo and Group(1) Best Band Best number : Item/Song, Pitch/Scale, Vocal Quality, Coordination, Overall appeal
6 Best vocalist: (Male and Female) Pitch/Scale, Coordination, Timing, Vocal expressions, Overall appeal Instrumental (Solo): Selection of the instrumental piece, Skill, Variety, Creativity/Innovation, Overall appeal Instrumental (Group): Orchestration, coordination, Variety, Creativity/Innovation, Overall appeal Solo : item/ song, pitch/scale, Vocal Quality, Overall appeal.(for best vocalist andbest number) Best Band: Orchestration, Vocal performance, coordination, Creativity/Innovation, Overall appeal 3.TINNITUS- Western Music Rock On! 8 3. EUPHONY-Western Acousitcs Let the rhythm light up the night! Maximum time: 20 minutes (including tuning time). Maximum of 8 members per team. No electrical instruments allowed except keyboard in Grand piano mode and a bass guitar without a processor. Solo vocals without any accompaniment will not be judged. In case of any discrepancies, decisions of the cult team will be final. PRIZE CATEGORIES Best Number Best Vocalist Best band Best Number: Selection of song, Harmony, Timing, Presentation, Vocals Best Vocalist: Pitch/Scale, Coordination, Timing, Vocal expressions, Overall appeal
9 Best Band: Orchestration, Vocal performance, Coordination, Creativity/Innovation, Overall appeal 5. DERNIER CRI Fashion ka hai yeh jalwa! Maximum of 17 members ( including a narrator and a helper, if any) per team. Maximum of five rounds allowed. No time gap is allowed in between the rounds. While one half of the team is on stage, the other half should dress up for the next round backstage. The participants in the penultimate round can make their entrance in the middle of the final round after changing or can remain on stage for the final round. Introduction should be given from the technical hut. The team must report to the cult desk one hour prior to the event strictly. The teams should submit their soundtrack before 3 pm of the day of the event A pictorial background/video can be projected on LED screen. The picture/video should be given at the time of the soundtrack submission Time allowed: 25 minutes (including introduction). Any theme of your choice. Only apparel rounds. Stage with a T-shaped ramp provided.

PRIZE CATEGORIES Best Team Theme, Creativity, Apparel, Modeling, Overall impact MINOR STAGE EVENTS- DRAMA (Vaudeville) 1.ADZAP Sheep in wolf s clothing? Haha! Make sure it sells! Ads on any product of your choice. Sequence of teams will be determined by drawing lots.

Narration has to be in English (phrases in other languages can also be used in between) Note: Uniform dress code is allowed. Theme, Humor, Co-ordination, Acting/Skill, Overall impact 2.VARIETY Let s show the world what we are capable of! Any performance of your choice, eg. street play, beat boxing, magic show, puppet show, duet show, shadow performance, stand up comedy, solo mime, ventriloquism. No dance pieces.
12 Team as well as solo entries allowed. Separate awards for solo and team depending on number of participants. 2-member and 3-member teams will be judged under solo category. For a team participation: Maximum 10 members per team, minimum 4 members. For a team participation : At least 3 members have to be present on-stage at any point of time. Time limit: 10 minutes Props are allowed, but not Stage sets. Use of props MUST be intimated to the cult desk at the time of registration. Note: Uniform dress code is allowed. Complete costumes which depict the character or the theme are not allowed. Minor changes to the uniform costumes allowed. In case of any discrepancies, decisions of the cult team will be final. Talent, Creativity, Humor/Co-ordination, Acting/Skill, Overall impact Note: Props include objects, which are carried by participants (like sticks, swords, pots).chairs, tables, screens and backdrops, which are placed on stage, come under stage settings 3.SKIT Have the audience in splits with parodies of life
13 Any topic of your choice. Maximum of 10 members per team (including the narrator). Minimum of 3 with at least 2 on stage. Time allowed: 10 minutes. No props, costumes or stage sets allowed. 14 Any topic of your choice. Maximum 10 members per team (+1 accompanying keyboard player) Time limit: 10 minutes Introduction and background music (Keyboard) allowed. Pre-recorded music is strictly not allowed, even on the keyboard. Teams will be penalized for using prerecorded music. Running commentary or songs in between will not be permitted. Any word uttered by the participant on stage will result in penalty on the team. No props, costumes or stage sets allowed. Note: Uniform dress code is allowed. 15 Bring out the drama in life. Any topic of your choice. Maximum of 20 members per team (including the narrator). Minimum of 3 with at least 2 on stage. Time allowed: upto 20 minutes. Props, costumes or stage sets are allowed. Use of any props or stage sets must be informed to the cult team at the time of registration. Maximum 3 microphones will be provided on stage and 1 off stage for narration, if any. Vulgarity is strictly prohibited. Negative markings for any crude comments. Narration has to be in English (phrases in other languages can also be used in between) In case of any discrepancies, decisions of the cult team will be final. PRIZE CATEGORIES Best Play, Best Actor/Best Actress, Best Director Best Play : Theme, Expression of theme, Co-ordination, Acting/Skill, Overall impact Best Actor/Actress : Expression of Emotions, Dialogue delivery, Confidence, Overall stage presence Best Director : Presentation, Creativity, Transitions, Casting Note: Props include objects, which are carried by participants (like sticks, swords, pots).chairs, tables, screens and backdrops, which are placed on stage, come under stage settings.
16 1. SOLO DANCE DANCE MINOR STAGE EVENTS Strike the balance between perfection and beauty! Solos will be judged under two categories: Indian and Western. Only 2 participants allowed per college per category. Time limit: 4 mins Props are allowed, but not stage sets. Use of props must be intimated to the cult desk at the time of registration. Timings are to be strictly followed. In case any team exceeds the time limit on the stage, it will be given negative points and is also subject to disqualification at the judges discretion. Adaptunes Maximum 2 entries per college. Time limit: 2 mins. Participants are required to dance according to the songs played on the spot. The track will contain a fusion of 3 dance numbers which will be premixed and allotted in a random fashion prior to the event. Participants will be given 2 minute just before their performance to listen to the track. Props and stage settings are not allowed. Vulgarity of any sort is strictly prohibited. In case of any discrepancies, decision of the cult team will be final. Judging criteria Adaption, Dance moves, Expressions, Stage coverage, Overall appeal Note: Props include objects, which are carried by participants (like sticks, swords, pots).chairs, tables, screens and backdrops,which are placed on stage, come under stage settings. PRIZE CATEGORIES Best Performance FINE ARTS (Motif) 1.PAINTING Let your ideas flow in colours And the landscape come alive Charts, pencils, blades and erasers will be provided. Time: 3 hours
18 Participants are allowed to choose a theme of their choice from the 4 topics that will be given at the venue. Participants should use only WATER COLOURS. Poster colors and acrylic colors not allowed. Colors and brushes are NOT provided. (limited number of water colors and brushes will be available for purchase at the venue, though the participants are expected to bring their own items ) Pictures and mobile phones are not allowed inside the hall. NOTHING SHOULD BE WRITTEN ON THE PAINTING. Words should not be a part of the painting also. (Participant s name must NOT be written on the painting) In case of any discrepancies, decisions of the cult team will be final. Painting: Expression of theme, Neatness and Presentation, Coloring, Overall impact 2.POT-PAINTING It s time to showcase your creativity! One pot per participant will be provided. Time : 2 hours Participants should use water-colors/poster colors only. Acrylic colors will not be allowed. Whatever be the medium used, all entries will be judged under a single category only. Electronic devices of any form will not be allowed.

T-SHIRT PAINTING You create what you wear! One white SPANDAN t-shirt per participant will be provided. Time : 2 hours The t-shirt will be plain white in front and have SPANDAN written in the middle in black font across the back. T-shirt will be without collar. Participants are allowed to depict any theme of their choice. Participants can use ACRYLIC colors for painting and must carry their own paints for the same. Participants may use water-colors/poster colors also. Whatever be the medium used, all entries will be judged under a single category only. All t-shirts made so will be available for sale from the Social Service desk during Spandan. Electronic devices of any form will not be allowed. Acrylic colors and brushes are NOT provided. (Water colors can be bought at the venue) Painting: Expression of theme, Neatness and Presentation, Coloring & Design, Overall impact
20 4.SKETCHING Life s myriad hues in black & white & shades of grey Chart paper, pencils (6B, 2B and erasers will be provided). No printed matter, books allowed. Time : 3 hours Participants are allowed to choose a theme of their choice from the 4 topics that will be given at the venue. Charcoal pencils not allowed. NOTHING SHOULD BE WRITTEN ON THE sketch. Words should not be a part of the sketch also. (Participant s name must NOT be written on the sketch) Sketching: Expression of theme, Neatness and Presentation, Shading, Overall impact 5.FACE-PAINTING Face it! Only 2 members per team (including the person to be painted upon) Participants should use water color/poster color only. Acrylic colors are NOT allowed.
21 Colours and brushes are not provided. (limited number of water colors and brushes will be available for purchase at the venue, though the participants are expected to bring their own items. Maximum time allowed: 90 min. Face and neck to be painted. No specific topics. Participants should give a caption to their entries. 2 minutes will be given to each team to express their theme to the judges. Face painting: Expression of theme, Neatness and Presentation, Creativity/Innovation, Colour Combination, Overall impact 6.COLLAGE Bits n pieces Magazines (3), blades, gum and paper will be provided. Time: 3 hours Participants are allowed to choose a theme of their choice from the 4 topics that will be given at the venue. Maximum of three members per team. No extra magazines will be provided. Personal magazines or papers not allowed.
22 Burning of the papers and exchanging of the magazines not allowed. 3d & picture collage are not allowed. Collage: Expression of theme, Neatness and Presentation, Use of material, Overall impact 7.RANGOLI Colours coordinated Colours provided are red, green, black, white, blue and yellow. 1 Sieve will be provided per team. Maximum of three members per team. Time: 3 hours Personal colours and material not allowed. Participants can use salt (but not salt crystals), sieve(provided) and brushes (not provided). No specific topics. Participants should give a caption to their entries. Rangoli: Expression of theme, Neatness and Presentation, Colour Combination, Overall impact
23 8. MEHENDI An art of enduring beauty-a tribute to feminine grace Maximum time allowed: 90 minutes Participants can apply mehendi on their partner s or can apply mehendi on their hand themselves. Only Mehendi cones will be provided. Mehendi mats are not allowed. Mehendi can be put in both the hands or the entire forearm [depending on the time available] Mehendi will be judged in the wet form. Participants will be given 2 minutes to explain their designs to the judges. Books/papers will not be allowed inside the venue Mehendi : Neatness, Overall impact, Design 9. DIGITAL PHOTOGRAPHY (SINGLE) Go where beauty, mystique and magic lie. Capture it with your Digital Eye Participants should register at the cultural desk in SPANDAN reception on days 1 & 2 (Aug 28 th and 29 th ) Participants have to pay Rs 100/- at the time of registration.
24 Participants should bring their own camera. Topics will be given. Photos have to be taken anywhere within the limits of Pondicherry and after registering at cultural desk. The memory card should be submitted at the cultural desk on Sep 1 st (Friday) before 2.00 p.m. Participants can submit 1 entry. If he/ she has more entries Rs 50/- per entry will be collected. Results will announced after judgment on Sep 1st ( Friday ) Photos will not be returned to the participants. Post-exposure processing is not allowed. Photography: Expression of Theme, 3D Perception/depth, Clarity and Contrast, Scenery/ picture, Overall impact 10. DIGITAL PHOTOGRAPHY (STORY) Just another way to tell your story. Participants should register at the cultural desk in SPANDAN reception on days 1 & 2 (Aug 28 th and 29 th ) Participants have to pay Rs 200/- at the time of registrations. Participants should bring their own camera. MAXIMUM NUMBER OF PHOTOS ALLOWED: 15
25 No topics will be given. Participants are allowed to depict any story of any form through their photography. Photos have to be taken anywhere within the limits of Pondicherry and after registering at cultural desk. The memory card should be submitted at the cultural desk on Sep 2nd (Saturday) before 2.00 p.m. Participants can submit 1 story. ENTRIES MUST HAVE THE PHOTOGRAPHS PROPERLY LABELLED AND NUMBERED IN SEQUENCE. Results will announced after judgment on the last day of Spandan. Photos will not be returned to the participants.
