March 20 th Moose Lodge in Shallotte Letter from the President of the Coastal Shag Club Hey Shaggers, Aren't we lucky spring has sprung and the summer shagging scene is just ahead of us? Julie and I had a great time at the ACSC Winter Workshop, in Mooresville, along with several other CSC club members - which made the road trip even more fun. SOS is just one month away and we still have cards available for sale for $30, which saves you $5 per person. At the Winter Workshop it was announced there will be stricter coverage checking for the cards at the club doors, or, as always, you can just pay a cover charge to get into the club of your choice for the night during SOS. There will also be more non-smoking venues down at O.D. due to all the requests for it from shaggers. Not sure what SOS is? Think of it like spring break for shaggers. Ask any board member for more details. The SOS parade will be the first weekend of SOS. Consider joining in the fun and let Gary Sellers know if you can help out in any capacity. Last year we had a great time before, during, and after the parade and hope to win a prize again this year. I hope you're all reading the newsletter and web page, which are both full of good information. Our club is active and your Board of Directors puts a lot of thought, effort, and energy into making sure we have lots of fellowship and shagging fun together. I hope to see you at the bowling party organized by Marc Meyer this month. Also, Saturday, April 10 th the North Carolina Azalea Festival will be held at the Cape Fear Community College Schwartz Center, in Wilmington, NC. We received word they have torn down the back deck and took out the dance floor at the Boulevard Grill, down at O.D. There is a plywood floor and shaggers are still supporting the club, which will be open for SOS. Also, due to illness, the owner of Shanty's in Carolina Beach has had to close that shag club. These are just a couple of reminders to support the businesses that support shag. When you can go to a club, a concert, or take a shag class. It s up to us to keep the dance alive. I hope you don't drink too much green beer this week. I'm looking forward to seeing you all this Saturday - the weather promises to be beautiful. Remember, when in doubt, Pivot! Ladies please clean out that pantyhose drawer and bring any old pantyhose no matter what color or condition. They are needed to make decorations for the parade. Last year, we received a trophy for 2 nd place in the Best Shagging Troup category! Be sure to be there this year to support our club! March Dance Details This month s theme is St. Paddy s Day at our March Dance so wear your green! Bring your favorite appetizer, snack, or dessert to share. We ll dance the night away so come on out for a good party! St. Paddy s Day Trivia: Can you identify the parts of a four leaf clover? One leaf is for sunshine - The second is for rain - The third is for roses that grow in the lane and The fourth is for the one you adore! Date: Saturday, September 11, 2010 Time: 12:00pm - 4:00pm Location: Silver Coast Winery, OIB Shaggin' for Shelter Shaggin for Shelter is an event Habitat for Humanity is hosting along with the Silver Coast Winery on September 11th from noon to 4 pm. We'll have three of the best beach music bands, The CWB, Continental Divide and Sea Cruz. It will be a great day of enjoying beach music outdoors at the winery (we will have a wood dance floor). There will be a Lucille Ball look a- like contest and since the grapes are ripe for pickin' at that time of year - anyone interested can participate in some good old fashioned grape smashing! The day's theme will include a patriotic ambience and we will recognize those lives lost during the tragedy of Sept. 11. Please plan on attending this event! ASCS SUMMER WORKSHOP The Fayetteville Area Shag Association (FASA) in Fayetteville, North Carolina is excited and honored to host the Association of Carolina Shag Clubs (ACSC) Summer Workshop July 9-11, We look forward to providing our fellow shag club members with a fun and enjoyable weekend of music, hospitality, fun and fellowship. Register early so you can take advantage of reduced ticket prices ($60 before June 1st) and hotel accommodations which are only $90 until June 7th. FASA has 200 rooms reserved for your convenience.
