4 Airband Information Rules and Regulations 1. Each chapter is allowed one group containing no more than fourteen people. 2. Time Limit: The program may not exceed five minutes. 3. No dances, props or costumes may include any references to drugs or alcohol. 4. Costumes can only be removed in an appropriate fashion. Instruments and props are permitted, but may not be thrown at any time (Absolutely no throwing objects into the crowd). Your chapter must be incorporated in some way, shape, or form (I.e. colors, prop, throw what you know, verbal/chant.) All costume and prop changes and transitions must be submitted in writing no later than March 30, All props and costumes must be in good taste, the Airband committee maintains the right to reject any costume or prop. Any costumes that may be considered inappropriate need to be cleared with either the Director of Greek Life or the Airband Chairs. Failure to do so may result in losing points. 5. There is no limit to the number of hours an individual chapter may practice. Note: Chapters may not practice between the hours of 12am-8am. 6. Song Selections will be made at the 2/5/2018 meeting. NOTE: Song changes will not be accepted after the Airband meeting on 2/19/ All music must be recorded onto 3 CD s in excellent condition. The CD must be turned into the Airband chairs no later than March 26, Note: The CD must include a CD case, chapter name, and song choices. 8. The Airband rehearsals will be held in McAfee on April 2 nd, April 4th, and 6 th, ALL PARTICIPATING CHAPTERS ARE REQUIRED TO ATTEND THE STAGE REHEARSAL on April 6th; FAILURE TO ATTEND WILL RESULT IN DISQUALIFICATION. Note: Only one rehearsal is mandatory on either the 3 rd or 4th, which are 20-minute rehearsals from 7:00 PM 10:00 PM. Second rehearsal is mandatory on April 6 th starting at 1:30pm 9. On the night of Airband all chapters must send one representative to check in near the stage thirty minutes before the competition begins and will sit with the lighting crew. Also turn in this person s name and cell number on the Lighting Sheet. 10. Throughout each performance judges will be taking obscene or distasteful dances into consideration. At their discretion, they may deduct points for distasteful actions. 11. Costumes and props will be checked one week prior to the Airband performance. 12. Each Airband participant will have a $50 limit for their costume. A chapter can t spend more than $100 on all props. Note: Costume and prop receipts are due March 26th, It is mandatory that there are six people on the stage during all times of the performance. 14. One person must always be lip-synching during each different song during the whole performance. 4

6 Deductions A deduction can either take points way from the overall final performance score or attendance points depending upon the violation. Performance Deductions 5 points will be taken away if any of the following happen. -If there is not someone lip synching to each different song. -If there is a prop, costume, move, or etc. added to the performance that wasn t shown during the final dress rehearsal. -If at least 6 people aren t on stage at all times. -If you exceed the time limit. -If you don t incorporate your chapter in some way, shape, or form (I.e. colors, prop, "throw what you know," verbal/chant, etc. -The Airband Committee does have the final say to deduct points if there is any violation. Meetings Deductions One point will be taken from your attendance points if you do any of the following. -Do not show up at meetings. -If paperwork or materials are turned in late. 7 Games Information Games Committee: Games Advisor: Dayton Ehrlich Committee Chair: Emily Fitzpatrick Pyramids 1. There will be ten participants from every chapter. 2. There will be at least two heats and the top three times overall will compete in the finals. 3. The participants must run 25 yards before they begin to build. All members of the pyramid must be facing the starting line. Each lane will be 25 feet wide. The pyramid must be built with four people on the bottom, three on the next row, two on the next row and one on top. 4. All participants must stay in their own lane, or the team will be disqualified. 5. At the given signal, all ten participants will run to the building point. 6. When the judges determine the pyramid to be steady (elbows locked and heads up), and the pyramid is held steady for 3 seconds (by stopwatch), a flag will be dropped and the judge will command the participants to dismount. 7. The participants will dismount and run to the finish line. The last person across the line will stop the clock. 8. Participants must wear tennis shoes; no spikes or cleats will be allowed. 9. Heats will be determined at a Rules and Games Meeting to be announces at a later time. Each member of the Pyramid teams must sign a liability and sportsman like conduct form before participation in the event. Failure to do so will result in disqualification of the team. 8 Tugs Rules and Regulations 1. ALL ROSTERS, LIABILITY FORMS, SPORTSMAN LIKE CONDUCT FORMS AND CHAPTER CONDUCT CODES ARE DUE NO LATER THAN FEBRUARY 20 th, All forms mentioned above must be turned into the Tugs mailbox (Fraternity and Sorority Programs Office, University Union) or handed to myself (Rebecca Cash) at one of the steering committee meetings. There are NO exceptions or excuses that will be accepted after the due date. If you miss this deadline, your chapters WILL NOT participate in the event(s). 3. Tugs will not be held responsible for names that cannot be read. If your roster is illegible we will count that as not having the forms completed. 4. During Tugs, there will be an area separating the tugs lane from the spectators. If any member of your chapter is in that lane at any time during Tugs, the team will be considered in violation of the conduct code, and may be disqualified. 5. If a team chooses to drop out of participation in a competition, they will forfeit their seed position. They team will not place or earn participations points in said event. 6. Tugs first meeting is February 20th at 7:00 PM in the Arcola/Tuscola room. 7. Tugs second meeting is March 20th at 7:00 PM in the Arcola/Tuscola room. 8. Tarps will be used again if needed due to weather. 9. Rain delay schedule will be announced before spring break. 10. The event will be held over the campus pond. 11. The rope will be entirely wet before the contest begins. 12. The start and end of a tug will be indicated by a train horn. 13. Only turf or plastic shoes are allowed. No metal cleats may be worn. 14. Judges will check participants shoes prior to each tug (on the rope). 15. The first tuggers on the rope must hold the rope within the designated area. 16. Substitutions of tuggers may be made before the tug, but must be from the alternate listed on the final roster. 17. The team that is able to get three tuggers (third tugger knee deep) on the opposing team in the water first will be declared the winner. 18. One false start will be allowed per team, per tug. 19. No team member may assume a position behind the anchorman at any time. No one but tugging members may touch the rope after the tug has begun to hold the slack. If necessary a steering committee member will hold the slack. 8

9 20. The team coach may not touch the members once the tug has begun. 21. No more than two team coaches will be allowed in the lane, failure to adhere to this rule will result in immediate disqualification. Warnings will not be given. 22. Coaches must be a current EIU student, an active member of an Eastern Fraternity/Sorority organization, and must be on the rope with a completed wavier. 23. A flagger is required for each team to utilize for the raising and lowering of the flag. The flagger must be on the roster; a team member, alternate, or a coach. This person must be silent and clear-headed during the competition and cannot move from the flag position. 24. Only the contestants feet may touch the ground, unless the participant(s) slip or fall in that event, a judge will issue a verbal warning and the contestant will have 3 seconds by the judge s count to resume their position. If three seconds are exceeded, and the tugger has not resumed to his position on the rope, then the individual will be disqualified. 25. NO SITTING ON FEET WILL BE ALLOWED. If caught sitting for more than 3 seconds count by a judge, the individual will be disqualified. 26. Alternate grip during the tug will be up to the judge's discretion. 27. Teams must stay in the tug lanes, or will be disqualified. 28. Any attachment to a stable object (i.e. fence pole, tree, boulder, etc.) will result in immediate disqualification, without warning during Round 1, Round 2, Semi-Finals, and Championship tugs. 29. Other immediate disqualifications will result if: a. Intentional forward motion during the explosive stage. b. Intentional releasing of the rope. c. Intentional interference with the judges occurs (by any member of the chapter) 30. The rope will be entirely placed in the pond immediately after the prior tug. The team will be given a two-minute time limit to dry the rope. Following, the team will then have one minute to approach the rope. The team will then have a maximum of two minutes to get set. When the horn sounds the tug will begin and then the horn sounds for the second time when the tug has ended. 31. There will be a two-minute time limit from Tuggers get set to Your team s flag is down. If that time limit is broken, it will be considered a false start. 32. If a team refuses/declines to tug at any point, they forfeit their position and will not receive participation points for the event. 33. If five or more of the tuggers have been removed from the rope by judges or have voluntarily removed themselves from the rope the tug will be called due to the safety of the tuggers and the opposing team will have won that tug. Men s Tugs NO TRAINING, CONDITIONING OR PRACTICES AS A TEAM UNTIL FEBRUARY 1st, 2018 Unlimited Practice Time between 8am & 12am (midnight). No limit of hours practiced. No tugging on the following areas: Rugby Field, Football field, Church behind Delta Tau Delta, the pond, IM fields, band practice field. Committee has the right to add more areas to this list at any time. 1. Every member will sign a liability form and return it to the Rules and Games Committee by February 20th, 2018 or the entire team will not tug. NO EXCEPTIONS. 9

10 2. Every member must also sign the sportsman like conduct agreement before they will be allowed to tug. This is also due by February 20th Men's Weigh-In and Weight Rules 1. Each team will consist of no more than ten men with a maximum combined weight of 2,100 lbs. 2. On the day of weigh-in, a team must be at exactly or under the weight limit. 3. Tuggers cannot gain or lose more than 20lbs between the March 2 nd and April 8 th weigh in. 4. Weigh-In Schedule is as follows: a. First Weigh-In: Friday, February 2nd (10am 1 pm) b. Second Weigh-In: Friday, March 2nd (8am 1 pm) c. Third Weigh-In: Friday March 23rd (8pm-11pm) d. Final Weigh-In: Sunday April 8th (8am 1 pm) e. EVERYONE MUST PARTICIPATE IN ALL THREE-WEIGH INS (Second Fourth) f. When approaching the scale each team member will only be able to officially step on the scale ONCE. Tuggers will not be allowed to check their weight on the scale on the day of the weigh in. Weigh In and Weight Rules 1. All the weigh-ins will take place at the MLK Student Union Room TBA. 2. Must have socks, athletic shorts/leggings/spandex, and a T-shirt on during the weigh in process. 3. If an individual cannot make a scheduled weigh-in, they must contact Rebecca Cash, at least one week prior to gain approval to attend an alternate weigh-in 4. A valid EIU ID will be required at all weigh-ins. 5. When approaching the scale each team member will only be able to officially step on the scale ONCE. Tuggers will not be allowed to check their weight on the scale on the day of the weigh in. WOMEN S TUGS NO TRAINING, CONDITIONING OR PRACTICES AS A TEAM UNTIL FEBRUARY 1st Unlimited Practice Time between 8am & 12am (midnight). No limit of hours practiced. 12 Unity Information Rules and Regulations Trivia: 1. Each organization will have a group of 8 participate in this event. 2. Cell phones will not be allowed to be used throughout the competition. 3. If caught cheating, the team will not receive points for that category. 4. Answers must be written down before the next question is read. 5. Answer sheets must be turned in after each category so that the Unity Committee can score and tally points. Minute-to-win-it Games 1. Each organization will have one representative participate in the game between each trivia category. 2. If an organization is able to complete the Minute-to-win-it game in 60 seconds they will receive an additional 5 points to their trivia score. 3. If an organization is unable to complete the minute-to-win-it game in 60 seconds they will receive no additional points to their trivia score. 4. If an organization is caught cheating during a game, they will not receive any points toward their trivia score. Picnic/Social April Come out and enjoy a stress-free event with food, games, and socializing. 2. Picnic will be catered and will occur in a location TBD. Bowling Option 2 (To Be Determined at a later date) 1. Each organization will send 4 members to participate. 2. Each IFC organization will be paired with a PHC organization to form one team. 3. Winner will be decided by the team with the most total points and the winners will receive 10 points for 1 st place Banner 1. Banner must incorporate Greek Week Theme. 2. Banner must include own chapter s letters and symbols. 3. Banner cannot degrade another chapter, chapters, or a staff member of the University. 4. Please be creative, but yet appropriate and tasteful. 5. NO GLITTER! If a chapter has glitter on your Greek Week banner you will be fined $75 and disqualified from banner judging and loss of participation points for banner contest. 6. Banner can ONLY be hung between the following dates and times: a. Friday, April 6 th during OWN CHAPTER S dress rehearsal time. 12

13 b. Saturday, April 7 th between 6:00pm and 7:00pm. c. Cannot be hung on any other date s or times. 7. Please refer to Appendix J for Greek Week Banner Scoring Rubic 8. Banners can be any size. Unity Application Please complete the following Unity Application (online MachForms) by its designated due date: Greek Unity Informational Application (will close March 9, 2018 at 11:59 PM) Deadlines 1. All applications must be turned in by March 9 th. 2. If applications are not turned in at this time, the organization will be unable to participate in the event. Deductions 1. If there is cheating throughout the event, there will be no points given to the organization. 13

14 Community Service Information Cans for Construction Rules and Regulations -Must use a minimum of 75 cans/ non-perishable items in sculpture (each group must collect their own canned goods) -Cannot use any type of strong adhesive (packaging tape, rubber cement, wood, wire etc.) or anything that will destruct the canned goods. -Can use foam core, cardboard, scotch tape, rubber bands, paper, etc. -Sculptors can work in teams -Sculptors have to be completed on site by 4:00 pm. Any sculpture that are late will be disqualified, NO EXCEPTIONS! -Each group must break down their sculptures in order to have food donated. Cleanup must be completed by 5:00 pm. Boxes will be available to transport the canned goods to the food pantry. -Sculpture cannot exceed a height of 3 feet, and must be constructed within a 5 feet x 5 feet area. -Sculptures must be constructed on site between 12:00 pm-4:00 pm -Judging and winning will be based on use of materials and incorruption of your chapter s letters, symbols, and the Greek Week overall theme of Viva Chuck Vegas. ---NO GLITTER!!!!!!!!--- Clothing Drive Each chapter will be responsible with collecting 100 individual items of clothing. Acceptable items include but are not limited to: Shoes, hats, coats, shirts and pants. Failure to reach 100 items will result in no points being awarded. The number of 100 clothes or over that is reached is the number of the points the chapter will receive. Clothing Drive boxes will be distributed to chapter delegates at the March 19 th meeting Clothing Drive box drop-off will take place on Friday, April 6th from 12:00 PM 2:00 PM on the third floor of the MLK Jr. University Union in the Arcola/Tuscola Room. Donating 100 items will result in your chapter being awarded 5 points. The collected items will be donated to a local community service. Community Service Project Chapters will be given the opportunity to join in with the rest of the Eastern Illinois University community in participation of this year s Panther Service Day (PSD). This year s PSD will take place on Saturday, April 7 th. To earn the total amount of Greek Week points 25% of your chapter must be in attendance. Sign-up is done through the Civic Engagement & Volunteerism Office (CEVO) which will be ed to chapter presidents as soon as it is made available by the Civic Engagement & Volunteerism Office (CEVO) by Riley Doran. 15 Election & Coronation Information Rules and Regulations Breakdown of Scoring for Coronation 20% will be scored on the Application 20% will be scored on Votes 60% will be scored on Interview There will be one King & Queen King/Queen Candidate Application Please complete the following King/Queen Candidate Application (online MachForm) by its designated due date: King/Queen Candidate Application (will close March 4, 2018 at 11:59 PM) Deadlines Sunday, March 4 th, 2018: Coronation Packets are due online via above MachForm at 11:59 pm. Monday, March 5 th, Mandatory Coronation meeting in the Arcola/Tuscola Room. You will sign up for an interview time slot. If you can t make the meeting contact Megan Shudrowitz at mmshudrowitz@eiu.edu for a make-up meeting. Friday, March 23, am - 5 pm: o Candidate interviews in the Oakland Room (Third floor, next door to the Office of Student Programs and across from the bathrooms) o There will be a sign-up sheet with time slots at the meeting on March 5 th. o Dress business casual o Headshots will be taken before your interview. o Please arrive early. o If you miss your interview time with the judges, you will not be given a second interview time slot and will no longer receive participation points for your chapter. o If you miss your interview time slot, it will be up to the Coronation/Elections committee if you will move forward with the King/Queen coronation. 17 Appendix B Airband Waiver 2018 Airband Waiver Eastern Illinois University Liability Release, Waiver, Discharge and Covenant Not to Sue This is a legally binding release made by me, (Please Print)(Hereinafter referred to as Releaser ) to Eastern Illinois University (Hereinafter referred to as Institution ). I fully recognize that there are dangers and risks to which I may be exposed by participation in the Greek Week Airband on April 6 and April 7. The following is a description and examples of specific, significant, nonobvious dangers and risks associated with this activity: travel to and from the conference, conference participation and recreation/social activities. I understand the Institution does not require me to participate in this activity, but I want to do so, despite the possible dangers and risks and despite this Release. I, therefore agree to assume and take on myself all of this risks and responsibilities in any way associated with this activity. In consideration of and return for the services, facilities and other assistance provided to me by the Institution in this activity, I release the Institution (and this governing board, employees, and agents) from any and all liability, claims and actions that may arise from injury or harm me, from my death, or from damage to my property in connection with this activity. I understand this release covers liability, claims and actions caused entirely or in part by any acts or failures to act of the Institution (or its governing board, employees, or agents), including but not limited to negligence, mistake or failure to supervise the Institution. I recognize that this Release means I am giving up, among other things, rights to sue the Institution, its governing board, employees, and agents for injuries, damages, or losses I may incur. 18 Chapter Conduct Code Appendix C Greek Week Chapter Conduct Code I, as the acting President of the chapter, agree to be held responsible for the behavior of my entire Chapter. The Chapter understands the rules regarding all Greek Week sponsored events and games. We understand appropriate behavior is expected from all members whether they are participating members of the event or a member of the audience, or within the Charleston community. We also agree to treat all committee members, staff, judges and other Greek Week participants in the manner we would like to be treated. Furthermore, the Chapter understands that violation of this code by any member can result in sportsmanship point deductions or disqualification of the entire team or Chapter at any event. Greek Week staff also possess the power to disqualify any Chapter from participating in Greek Week events entirely upon any behavior deemed extremely unsportsmanlike. 19 Appendix D Tugs Sportsman-Like Conduct Code Everyone must sign this before they will be allowed to participate in any event! If anyone from a team does not sign this code, the entire team will be disqualified. As a member of the chapter, I agree to uphold the standards of Eastern Illinois University, Panhellenic Council, Interfraternity Council, and National Pan-Hellenic Council regarding sportsmanlike conduct. This code includes appropriate treatment of judges, steering committee members, staff and other Greek Week participants. I have also have read and understand the rules that apply to the event in which I am participating. If I should choose not to adhere to this code, my actions will be reviewed by Rules and Games Committee and my Chapter President. The final decision will rest with the Rules and Games Committee. In addition, I agree my behavior should at all times represent the Greek Community in a positive manner. Failure to adhere this code could result in disqualification of my entire team and possibly my chapter. 21 Appendix E Pyramids Sportsman-Like Conduct Code Everyone must sign this before they will be allowed to participate in any event! If anyone from a team does not sign this code, the entire team will be disqualified. As a member of the chapter, I agree to uphold the standards of Eastern Illinois University, PanHellenic Council, Interfraternity Council, and National Pan-Hellenic Council regarding sportsmanlike conduct. This code includes appropriate treatment of judges, steering committee members, staff and other Greek Week participants.
