Contact Information Facility Address: 8536 Concord Center Drive Unit A, Englewood, CO CLUB WEBSITE: Tiffany Larson, Club Director Phone: Contact Tiffany regarding payments, contracts, travel, fundraising, uniforms, spirit wear, newsletters Marty Larson, Director of Coaching Head Coach of 18-Black Phone: Contact Marty for everything else The 5280 Facility The 5280 Facility is located at 8536 Concord Center Drive, Unit A in Englewood. Our 3-court facility is ideal for the training and development of the 5280 teams. The courts within the facility are Sport Courts that are only a few years old. We have been at this particular facility for one year, since August Also inside the facility, we have a weight room, front waiting area, ice machine (for use by players after practice if needed), and office. Spectators Parents are welcome to stay and watch practices. We ask that you stay off the court area for the safety of the players training on the court. You are able to watch from the weight room as long as a team is not in there doing their weight training. Coaching Staff We are very lucky to have the great coaching staff that we have for All are experienced in the game of volleyball and share a true passion for the sport. Each have different backgrounds but a common goal to make your daughter a better volleyball player from the moment your walks in to the first practice and to create a team dynamic that is unstoppable on the court. Each coach is asked to turn in practice plans to Marty prior to their practices for approval. This is to ensure that areas that are needed are touched on based on age, skill level, and ability. SportXcel Training SportXcel is a local training group that works hand-in-hand with Club 5280 to bring our players the proper volleyball athletic training needed to help them move faster on the court and improve their strength in areas pertaining to volleyball needs. They will help each team with SAQ training. SAQ stands for Speed, Agility, Quickness. Each team will get SAQ training done once a week by a SportXcel Trainer. This is done during the teams already scheduled practice time and is not an extra time you have to come in. 1

Practice Information Practice Schedule Given that the exact number of teams has yet to be determined, the final practice schedule is not completed. Below is the proposed schedule for the teams we are looking to host for the season. Times TBD for specialty practice. Make-up Procedure If a practice is missed for any reason, it is required that every player make up that practice. You can make up a practice any of the following ways: 1. Join another teams practice a. In order to do this, you must first get permission from the coach of the team you are hoping to make up with. This way they can plan their practice accordingly. b. Coaches information is available on our website and on the inside front cover of this handbook. 2. Set up a private lesson with either your current coach or Marty a. A $50/hour fee applies to private lessons. If you are able to do a lesson with one or two other players then it would be $90/hour total for the 2-3 players to set one up. Practice Gear Every player will receive 1 or 2 long sleeved shirts with the uniform package (depends on which team you are on). Extra shirts are available for purchase. Uniform Attire We take this very seriously. As a club, it is important that every player looks their best and that each team looks the same when they play at any tournament. Not to mention, there are USAV rules about uniforms that we also have to follow. This year 5280 will be providing head to toe Mizuno as a part of your dues. Here is a list of what is included depending on the team that you make. One white long sleeved Mizuno jersey One black long sleeved Mizuno jersey One gray long sleeved Mizuno jersey (travel teams only) 2

One pair of black Mizuno spandex One pair of black Mizuno kneepads Two pairs of black Mizuno socks (three pairs for travel teams only) One white/gray/black Mizuno Team Jacket with logo One black Mizuno backpack with logo Available for purchase at the beginning of the season at almost 40% of retail will be: Extra Mizuno kneepads, spandex, socks Mizuno Shoes (we do not provide these for everyone as we believe every foot is different and it is more important to us that people are comfortable with their shoes however a lot of players get these) Black Mizuno pants Rocky Mountain Region What is commonly referred to as the RMR, it stands for Rocky Mountain Region, and is the division of the USAV for our part of the country. They host local tournaments throughout the season for teams: RMR Powers, RMR Regionals, and RMR JNQs. Each of these are explained in more detail below teams do not play in the RMR Friendship tournament at the beginning of the season. RMR Powers Every 5280 team will be participating in the RMR Powers. Powers are the day-long tournaments that take place about every other Sunday starting in January and ending in April. Some weekends are skipped completely depending on holidays and Crossroads. You will sometimes see it listed as Power Odd or Power Even. The Odd or Even pertains to the age group so 14s is Even and 15s is Odd. On the day of your teams Power, players must arrive at their designated playing site and be ready to play by 7:30 am. Depending on how matches go that day, play can last until approx 3 pm. But since they are not timed there is no guarantee of the length of the day. The locations of the Powers are not released by the RMR until about the week before the Power. AS SOON AS WE RECEIVE THE LIST OF LOCATIONS THEY ARE SENT OUT IN THE CLUB NEWSLETTER VIA . There are a lot of things that go into who is playing where each week so please do not bother the RMR office or 5280 Admin about the locations as we do what we can to get them out to you as soon as we hear anything RULE NO TEAM TABLES no exceptions. Players are required to pack their own lunch. RMR Regionals All 5280 teams will participate in RMR Regionals. This takes place after Power 5, in mid to late April. Locations for Regionals will be released as soon as the RMR gets them posted. This can sometimes take a little while as they are trying to deal with a short turn around from Power 5. Like Powers, Regionals are also separated into Odd and Even weekends. RMR JNQs Only the top 8 teams of each age group after RMR Regionals are able to participate in the RMR JNQs. The top 8 is determined on their overall standings after Regionals, not on how they placed at Regionals. Standings are posted after each Power on the RMR website on the Juniors Page. Teams that have already qualified for the USAV Junior Olympics at other qualifier tournaments such as Crossroads are taken out of the JNQs and the 9 th place team will get the opportunity to participate. If a team finishes in the 1 st or 2 nd place position in their age group at the JNQs, then they have qualified to play at the USAV Junior Olympics in June. 3

Tournament and Travel Information When teams travel out-of-state, there are specific rules enforced by 5280 as to how the travel will go. Teams will travel TO their tournament as a team. They will stay together as a team in the hotel (not with parents) and will be watched over by a team mom and their coach. Players have the option of traveling home with their parents from the tournament but it depends on the tournament on how this is handled. Below is a listing of all of the tournaments 5280 will be taking out of state and which teams it pertains to. (any extra qualifiers are not listed as we are waiting for dates to be determined to help decide which ones we will be traveling to). Location: Omaha, Nebraska Dates: February 17 th -20 th Tournament Play: Qwest Center Presidents Day Tournament Omaha 18B,18P,17B,17P,16B,16P,15B,15P,14B,13B This tournament is a pre-season tournament that helps to get players, parents, and coaches ready for the qualifying season to begin. Teams cannot qualify for USAV Junior Olympics at this tournament. Teams will depart the 5280 facility at 7 am SHARP on Friday, February 17 th on charter buses. We should arrive in Omaha by 6 pm on that same day. Players are required to travel on the buses to Omaha as a team. Game Play will take place at the Qwest Center of Omaha (not the Convention Center) from Saturday, February 18 th to Monday, February 20 th. As soon as the last team is done playing on that Monday, we will load the buses and head back to Denver. The buses travel together. Players are NOT required to travel back on the buses, meaning they can travel back with their parents if they want. This change must be told to the team mom BEFORE we depart for Omaha on the 17 th. Players not returning on the buses will not be released from the tournament until ALL team duties are done reffing, playing, etc. Once they are released by both the coach and team mom they are free to leave. Given that we don t know when the last team will be done playing on Monday it is hard to say what time we will make it back to the 5280 Facility. Usually it is anytime between 1 am to 3 am on that Tuesday morning. Players will call their parents when we are about 45 minutes away so that they know when we will be back. The price for this trip is usually around $500. This price includes hotel, bus, ALL food, team mom and coaches travel, and admin costs. There is no discount for those not returning on the buses. If you want to send your daughter with spending money that is up to you for gas station stops and/or tournament clothing. Greeley Showdown Tournament Non-travel teams 14P,13P,12B,12P Location: Greeley, Colorado Dates: February 18 th -20 th Tournament Play: Various Locations This tournament is a pre-season tournament that helps to get players, parents, and coaches ready for the qualifying season to begin. Teams cannot qualify for USAV Junior Olympics at this tournament. Teams that are not going to Omaha will be participating in the RMR Greeley Showdown. This take place at various location in and around the Greeley/Ft Collins area. Because we do not consider 4

this a travel tournament each individual player and their family have the option to stay home and travel to and from daily, or can stay in that area for the weekend at their own expense. There is no additional cost for this tournament. Colorado Crossroads Qualifier - Denver ALL TEAMS Location: Denver, Colorado Dates: TBD Tournament Play: Colorado Convention Center (14 th and California) We are very lucky to have a great qualifier in our own backyard. The Colorado Crossroads Qualifier is one of the largest qualifiers in the Nation and it very well run. It will take place over 2 weekends but each team will only play one of the weekends it is based on ages. We do not consider this a travel trip, so to save money teams do not have to stay downtown. Some families may decide to stay downtown for their designated weekend, but that is your choice. Light rail is a great option to get to and from the convention center as there is a stop right in front. Otherwise there is always the parking garage and various parking lots in the area. All teams will have a team practice downtown the night before their tournament begins. This allows everyone to get used to the facility and get out any butterflies before the following day. Every day the team is down at the qualifier, they are required to stay together as a team from the moment they get there until all team duties are done for the day and they are released by their coach. If you want to take time to shop, etc with your daughter during this tournament, it must be done before their meeting time or after they are done for the day. There are vendors there that sell food, but it is anything but healthy for the players, especially for a 3-day tournament. Players are required to pack their own lunches, like for Powers, and will keep that food in their backpacks while they are at the facility. USAV Junior Olympics USAV Junior Olympics, commonly referred to as JO s, is a tournament that takes place in the end of June/beginning of July (depending on your age group). A team must qualify for this tournament by placing 1 st at any qualifier. For 5280 teams, this would be at Colorado Crossroads, RMR JNQ, or another out-of-state qualifier the team might attend. The Omaha Tournament and Greeley Showdown in February are not qualifiers - they are just pre-season tournaments. According to USAV rules, if a team qualifies for this tournament they MUST attend. They cannot turn it down for any reason. The cost of this tournament depends on air travel mainly but can run anywhere from $700-$800 per player. Season Ending Tournament 17B,17P,16B,16P,15B,15P,14B,13B If one of the teams listed does not qualify for Jos, they will be attending a Season Ending Tournament in June. The location of this tournament will be determined as dates and locations are released by the different tournaments across this US. This may or may not include AAUs in Florida. There are other tournaments in places like Kentucky and Chicago that would be in consideration. This will allow these teams the opportunity to train for 2 extra months so they are in prime condition for the high school season when it begins in July. Team Moms Teams that travel will have a team mom that will take care of them during the trip. These are volunteers from each team. We can have more than one for each team -they would just have to split up the trips they attend. Travel and food for the team moms are covered in the team expenses for that particular trip. Team moms also purchase and provide the food for the travel trips for each team. 5

We like to think of the team moms as Assistant Coaches OFF the court. They are not allowed on the benches. They will work hand-in-hand with the coaches and Club administration. IMPORTANT INFORMATION for PARENTS Playing Time As is true with most club sports, playing time is NOT GUARANTEED. We are a competitive club and spots on the court are earned through practice and performance/stats. Despite what some may think, you are not paying for your daughter to be playing on the court during a match. You are paying for her to get training and to be a part of the team. It is her job to work hard and to EARN that spot on the court. (If people got to pay for playing time we would be millionaires ) If you and/or your daughter are unhappy with something like playing time, here are the steps to follow: (*this is to happen at a practice NOT a power or tournament) 1. The player needs to approach their coach and ask, What can I do to play more? 2. If you feel that your daughter then works on and improves on what their coach talks to them about, then please schedule a player and parent meeting with the coach. 3. If you still feel that there is an issue, then schedule a meeting with Marty and your coach. Newsletters If there is one thing we pride ourselves on, it is our communication. We send out newsletters on a constant basis with any information you will need to know. For example: the next Power site, fundraising info, changes to schedules, tournament info, etc. Communication Along with newsletters, there is also important information on our website. There will be a general calendar on the website, but the information in the newsletter trumps the information listed on the website as it is more up to date. Monthly Dues Payments If you chose to do monthly payments, the dues dates are the 1 st of January, February, March and April. There is a $1000 down payment due at the time of signing the contract. The remaining amount is split evenly into 4 payments. Payments may be paid by cash, check, or money order (made out to Club 5280 Volleyball ) and can be turned into the big Black Box at the facility on the counter in the weight room. Fundraising Fundraising is a great way to help ease the financial burden of playing club volleyball. ALL funds raised are distributed to each individual s account that raises it they are not distributed evenly among the entire team. Fundraising is optional, and you can choose how much you want to do on an individual basis. We will be doing fundraising throughout the season, but mainly before the Holiday break by Pampered Chef, Butter Braids, and Honey Baked Ham. We will be running a year-around fundraiser by King Soopers for re-loadable gift cards. 5% of what is loaded on KS cards will go directly into your account. The cards must be purchased through the club first and start as low as $25. We also offer to do a Sponsorship Program see the flyer. 6
