2 Madonna del Sasso School Uniform Handbook The policies set forth in this Uniform Handbook are in keeping with the school s philosophy and mission statement. Parents are expected to read and review this Uniform Handbook, and discuss it with their children. No handbook can cover all of the particular incidents or questions that will come up in the course of a school year. This is an attempt to convey to parents and students a reasonable idea of the uniform expectations of the school. The Principal has the right to amend the handbook when necessary. Parents will be given prompt notification if changes are made. The school uniform helps to identify the student as a member of Madonna del Sasso School. The uniform is a sign of a student who is contributing to the sense of community, which is important to the Catholic school. Students in Preschol-8th grade wear the uniform daily except when designated otherwise by the principal. It is the responsibility of the parent to make sure that students arrive on campus in the correct uniform and neatly groomed each day. 3 UNIFORMS FOR Preschool 8 th GRADE GENERAL INFORMATION Each student is required to be in complete uniform and neatly groomed during school hours. Students not in proper uniform MUST have a note, or parents will be called. Uniform colors shall be noted as navy blue, gray, and black and white. Uniform attire with the MDS logo, plaid uniform jumper or skirt and navy skort are purchased through ACE HIGH. Shoes: Colors for shoes are solid navy, white, gray or black. Trim in uniform colors should be kept to a MINIMUM. Tennis shoes are acceptable provided they conform to the color and trim requirements. No light-up shoes are permitted. Uggs or any other type of boots will not be allowed. Socks: Socks must be worn at all times with the school uniform. Girls may wear tights during colder weather. Socks and footed tights must be in solid uniform colors of navy blue, gray, black or white. Socks must be clearly visible above the ankle. Girls may also wear the white socks with the school plaid trim, available from ACE HIGH. Belts: K 8 th GRADE MUST wear belts at all times; girls too, when opting to wear the uniform slacks or shorts. Belts must be navy blue, black or brown belts (leather or woven). The belt with the school plaid available at ACE HIGH is also an option. Sweater: The sweater navy blue V-neck pullover, navy blue button up cardigan or navy blue vest is an optional uniform item. These must be purchased from the official school uniform supplier, ACE HIGH. No other sweater is allowed. NOTE: The sweaters/sweater vest from ACE HIGH must have the MDS School logo. Jackets: The official school jacket (navy blue fleece hooded or non-hooded or navy blue rain jacket) must be purchased from the official uniform supplier, ACE HIGH No other jacket is allowed. NOTE: The jackets from ACE HIGH must have the MDS School logo. Fleece Vest: The official school fleece vest may be worn as an outerwear item. This navy blue fleece vest must be purchased from the official uniform supplier, ACE HIGH. No other fleece vest is allowed. NOTE: The fleece vest from ACE HIGH must have the MDS School logo. Sweatshirt: The official school sweatshirt may be worn in the classroom as a substitute for the school sweater. This navy blue sweatshirt must be purchased from the official school uniform supplier, ACE HIGH NOTE: The sweatshirt from ACE HIGH must have the MDS School logo. Crewneck or hooded sweatshirts with the school name and purchased through the school s Home and School Association (HSA) are also acceptable. Sweaters OR sweatshirts are allowed for school pictures. 3

4 Hair: Hair should always be clean, neat, well groomed, and in the student s natural color. Coloring, streaking and highlighting of any kind are not permitted. No hair attachments such as feathers, beads, etc., or hair weaves are allowed. Boys hair must be worn close to the neck, not extending below the top of normal shirt collar nor below the ear or eyebrows. Faux-Hawks and other extreme hairstyles on boys or girls are not permitted. Unconventional cuts, spiky hair and words/symbols shaved into the hair are not allowed. Jewelry for Girls: For safety reasons, necklaces, loop or dangling earrings are NOT ALLOWED. If earrings are worn, they should be no larger in diameter than the earlobe and no more than one per ear. Jewelry for Boys: Boys are not allowed to wear earrings. For safety reasons, necklaces are NOT ALLOWED. Scarves: For safety reasons, scarves of any kind are NOT ALLOWED. UNIFORMS FOR PRESCHOOL PLEASE SEND A LABELED JACKET OR SWEATER FOR YOUR CHILD EACH DAY. Shirts: Both BOYS & GIRLS will wear Madonna del Sasso T-Shirts in Yellow. These shirts must be purchased from the official school uniform supplier, ACE HIGH. Shorts: Both BOYS & GIRLS will wear Madonna del Sasso NAVY TWILL pants or shorts. These shorts must be purchased from the official school uniform supplier, ACE HIGH. Sweat Pants: Both Boys & Girls may wear Madonna del Sasso Sweat Pants. These sweat pants must be purchased form the official school uniform supplier, ACE HIGH. GIRLS Dress: KINDERGARTEN GIRLS ONLY, families have the option of purchasing from ACE HIGH the navy blue dress with the school logo. Jumper: K - 4th GRADE ONLY Jumpers must be worn at a respectable length, and should not exceed two inches above the top of the kneecap. Solid color navy blue, gray, back or white bike shorts or modesty shorts must be worn under the jumper at all times. Shorts are not to exceed the length of the skirt. The jumper must be purchased from the official school uniform supplier, ACE HIGH. Skirts: 1 st 8 th GRADE ONLY School plaid skirts must be worn at a respectable length, and should not exceed two inches above the top of the kneecap. The skirt must be purchased from the official school uniform supplier, ACE HIGH. Solid color navy blue, gray, back or white bike shorts or modesty shorts must be worn under the uniform skirt at all times. Shorts are not to exceed the length of the skirt. Skorts: 1 st 8 th GRADE ONLY The girls may also wear a plaid skort. The skort should not exceed two inches above the top of the kneecap. NOTE: Skorts must be purchased through the school uniform supplier, ACE HIGH. No other skorts may be worn. 4

5 Shorts: The uniform walking-length navy twill shorts may be purchased through the school uniform supplier, ACE HIGH. NOTE: Cargo shorts are not allowed at any time. Slacks: Full-length slacks may be any brand navy twill, which must fit properly at the natural waistline. Styles of pants that are NOT ALLOWED: Excessively tight pants, low-rise pants, capri pants, any brand of Skinny pants, and sweatpants. Leggings: Solid color navy, black, gray or white ankle-length leggings without decorative items such as lace, etc., may be worn under the uniform skirts. Denim leggings, Jeggings and other similar types of leggings are not allowed. Capri length or any other leggings shorter than ankle-length are not allowed as a uniform item. Shirts/Blouses: K 8 th GRADE ONLY The uniform polo shirts in solid white, gray or navy blue, with the MDS logo, must be purchased from the school uniform supplier, ACE HIGH. Short or long sleeve white cotton button up blouses, with pointed/rounded collars, with the MDS logo, must be purchased from the school uniform supplier, ACE HIGH. Long or short sleeve turtlenecks in solid white, gray or navy blue without the MDS logo are also allowed. NO OTHER LOGO is permitted on the turtlenecks. Make up, nail polish, acrylic nails, tips, lipstick and lip-gloss are NOT ALLOWED at any time. Students will be asked to remove nail polish and/or any type of make up. Students will be asked to remove acrylic nails before returning to school. BOYS Shorts: K 8 th GRADE ONLY Uniform walking-length navy twill shorts may be purchased through the school uniform supplier, ACE HIGH. NOTE: Cargo shorts are not allowed at any time. Slacks: Full-length slacks may be any brand navy twill, which fit properly. Navy cords are also acceptable. Cargo pants, sweat pants, baggy pants are not permitted. Belts must be worn (see above for belt information). Shirts: K 8 th GRADE ONLY Uniform polo shirts in solid white, gray or navy blue, with the MDS logo, must be purchased from the school uniform supplier, ACE HIGH. Long or short sleeve turtlenecks in solid white, gray or navy blue without the MDS logo are also allowed. NO OTHER LOGO is permitted on the turtlenecks. Shirts must be tucked in at all times. In colder weather, a solid uniform color long sleeved shirt (not thermal shirts) may be worn under the short sleeve uniform shirt. However, the two shirts (long sleeve under the short sleeve) MUST BE IN THE SAME COLOR. P.E.: All students up to and including grade 5 will remain in their school uniform during P.E. class. Girls must wear solid color navy blue, white or gray bike shorts or modesty shorts under their skirts or jumpers. They may remove their skirts or jumpers for class or wear the uniform shorts or pants on P.E. days. For the safety of the children, NO JEWELRY, with the exception of stud earrings that follow the uniform policy, may be worn during P.E. During P.E., girls with shoulder length hair or longer must tie their hair back. 5

6 MIDDLE SCHOOL BOYS MIDDLE SCHOOL UNIFORMS FOR P.E. Middle School students (grades 6-8) are required to dress out for P.E. Middle School P.E. uniforms must be purchased at the official uniform supplier, ACE HIGH. P.E. uniforms for Middle School students consist of solid color navy blue shorts with the school logo, as well as P.E. shirts with the school name. Both the P.E. shorts and P.E. shirts for the Middle School must be purchased at the official uniform supplier, ACE HIGH. NO OTHER CLOTHING FOR P.E. IS ALLOWED. Tennis or running shoes, in the solid school colors of navy blue, white, gray or black, are required for P.E. Trim in uniform colors must be kept to a MINIMUM. Students should bring tennis shoes to change into if other shoes are worn to school. No platform tennis shoes will be permitted in class because of possible injury. For the safety of the children, NO JEWELRY, with the exception of stud earrings that follow the uniform policy, may be worn during P.E. During P.E., girls with shoulder length hair or longer must tie their hair back. FREE DRESS DAYS On occasion students may be allowed to wear apparel other than the uniform. The opportunity to do so is a privilege, and as such the same standards of grooming and modesty apply to free dress clothing as to the uniform. On free dress days, students are to wear neat, clean, play clothes that meet standards of modesty and appropriateness for school. For safety reasons, flip-flops or sandals without a back strap are not allowed. Students are NOT allowed to wear the following at any time: Ø Clothing which is extremely tight, see-through, or contains offensive symbols or writing (e.g. drugs or alcohol ads). Ø Shorts that are shorter than the uniform walking short length Ø Skirts which are shorter than 2 above the top of the kneecap (uniform length). Ø Tank tops or bare midriffs. Ø Hats with inappropriate logos or slogans (hats are not allowed in the classroom). Ø Clothing that is excessively oversized. 6
