2 Indian Trail High School & Academy ATTENDANCE MATTERS Attendance monumentally impacts student academic success. When a student is sick, parents or guardians are to call the Attendance Office at the same day. If after school hours, please leave a message at the same number. If a student needs to leave during the school day, the student must bring a note from his/her parent/guardian to the Attendance Office to receive a pass to sign out. Without a note the guardian must come into the building to sign out their student, they must be prepared to present ID. In order to pick up a student, the person must be listed on the student Emergency Contact List. Also, a reminder that per state law, students can have only 10 excused absences (either partial or all day) per school year. Students are marked excused for any medical/dental appointments as long as the parent calls in or writes a note. A student s absence can be marked as Medical if the student brings in a note from the doctor/ dentist. Medical absences DO NOT count towards the maximum ten excused absences per year. It is in the student s best interest to obtain a medical note each time they have a medical appointment. GUIDANCE DEPARTMENT NEWSLETTER The Guidance Department Newsletter for December-January is now posted on the ITHSA website. Topics include GRADUATION REMIND- ERS, ACT TESTING, SCHOLARSHIP INFO, FINANCIAL AID, GUIDANCE TRANSFERS, COLLEGE INFORMATION, KUSD GRADUATION REQUIRE- MENTS and much more. HAWK MERCHANDISE AVAILABLE AT SCHOOL STORE Hawk Shop The Hawk Shop (in the IT Commons) is your official Nike Apparel Store featuring Indian Trail Hawk merchandise. The store has a great selection of T-Shirts, Hoodies, Jackets, Sweatpants, and Athletic shorts in school colors. The Hawk Shop is open before school from 7:00 to 7:20 AM and during all lunch hours 10:45-12:45 PM. Shop the Hawk Shop for holiday gifts your student will be proud to wear! 2

4 Indian Trail High School & Academy PBIS Update P OSITIVE B EHAVIOR I NTERVENTIONS AND S UPPORTS Indian Trail students have been working hard this school year at practicing positive behaviors. Students have been demonstrating why Indian Trail is considered a PBIS School of Merit. As a building, we are practicing the Hawk Habit of respect by demonstrating kindness and consideration toward adults and students. Students are awarded Hawk Talons and Hawk Hollers for particularly exemplary behavior, and have the chance to earn great prizes! Students are also working on following directions, staying engaged while in the classroom, and responding appropriately to a variety of challenging situations. The hard work is paying off - the average number of daily referrals has decreased since last year, even though the student population has grown by approximately 300 students! Keep it up, IT! 4
5 MARKET DAY IS HERE Help support Indian Trail by participating in an important fundraiser, Market Day. During these challenging times, we understand that providing monetary support can be difficult. However, with Market Day, you can help raise funds for our school while buying food that your family needs every day. Market Day requires no door-to-door selling and supports our school every month. This means you can participate any time during the school year. It is easy to participate. Simply order online at marketday.com or use the paper order form located in the main office. Our order deadlines and pick up dates for the year are below: Date Orders Due Month By 3 p.m. paper order / 11 p.m. online Pick Up Date (3:30-4:30) January Friday, January 3 Tuesday, January 7 February Friday, January 31 Tuesday, February 4 March Friday, February 28 Tuesday, March 4 April Friday, March 28 Tuesday, April 1 May Friday, May 2 Tuesday, May 6 June Friday, May 30 Tuesday, June 3 If you can t make it to our pick-up, a selection of 90 Market Day products is now available in GFS Marketplace stores. Kenosha County Cheer Exhibition Night Indian Trail will once again host the Kenosha County Cheer Exhibition Night on Wednesday, January 15 at 6:30 pm in the field house. This event serves as an exhibition for the area cheer teams to practice their competition routines as the state championship series begins. The event also acts as a great opportunity for the area cheer teams to support one another and promote sportsmanship. Kenosha County Cheer Exhibition Night is open to the public. Admission is $1 or one nonperishable food item; all proceeds and food items will be donated to local food banks. Teams scheduled to attend include the defending state champion Indian Trail varsity and junior varsity teams, Mahone Middle School, Shoreland Lutheran, St. Joe s, Wilmot, Westosha Central, and Bradford. For more information, please see 5
6 Choir News The Indian Trail High School and Academy Women's Choir was selected to sing for the Wisconsin Choral Directors' Association Convention in January through a blind audition process of a panel of choral directors from across the state of Wisconsin. The Wisconsin Choral Directors Association (WCDA) is a non-profit professional organization whose membership is composed of choral musicians from schools, colleges, universities, churches, community and professional groups, and the music industry. WCDA is an affiliate of the American Choral Directors Association, one of the largest professional organizations for choral directors in the world with a membership of over 18,000 directors representing one million singers. This year's convention is being held in Milwaukee, Wisconsin. The choir's performance will be on January 10 at 8:00 pm in the Basilica of St. Josaphat located at 2333 South 6th Street. Theatre News On Sunday, November 24, our students performed at the Wisconsin High School Theatre Festival held in Waunakee. The cast performed to a near full house and received two standing ovations. Here are the results of the festival: Peter Wierzba received the Outstanding Actor Award. The entire cast received an Ensemble Award. The show Almost, Maine was awarded The Critic Choice meaning it was considered among the best shows at state. Congratulations to cast and crew. 6
