8 2017 CLASS HAIRSTYLES Below is a list of hairstyles for each class. A video tutorial explaining each hairstyle will be sent in the final weeks of Term 4. 9 STAGE MAKE-UP Make-up is a necessary aspect of performance on stage. Make-up highlights the facial features of a dancer and ensures the audience can see a dancers facial features and expression under bright stage lights. It is the responsibility of each dancer to complete their make-up before arriving for Photo and Tech Rehearsal/Concert Day. A video tutorial for how to apply each stage of make-up will be ed to parents in the following weeks. Please note: No make-up will be applied by staff of Studio K Dance due to time constraints on each photo and rehearsal day. SHOPPING LIST - Thick foundation- colour should suit your child s skin tone - Blush- Dusky maroon or as close to - Lipstick- maroon red (no bright red lipstick please) - Lip liner- colour to match lipstick - Liquid eyeliner- black - Pencil eyeliner- black - Eye shadow- dark brown, medium brown, bronze and beige. - Mascara- black - False eyelashes- optional for students over 12 years PRE-SCHOOL CLASSES NO make-up is required for Baby Ballet or Pre-Primary Ballet classes. 9

10 COSTUMES Costuming for each concert take me around 6 months of researching, planning, measuring, fitting, trialing and ordering before purchased on behalf of Studio K Dance families. It is for this reason why I m always apprehensive handing costumes over to families in the lead up to concert day. I know students get excited at the thought of trialing their costume at home but can I urge you to keep the costume out of harms way in the weeks between Photo Day (2 Dec) and Concert Day (13 Dec). Costumes will be distributed in classes the week before Photo Day and all students are required to arrive in costume ready for their photo to be taken with their class on Saturday 2 December. Students will then be responsible for their costumes until Concert Day and must not be worn in the lead-up to the concert. Studio K Dance takes no responsibility if a student dirties, destroys or accidentally stains their end of year concert costume. Once taken home the costume becomes the responsibility of each dancer. Thank you for assisting me in keeping costumes in pristine condition in the leadup to our much-anticipated end-of-year concert. PLEASE NOTE: All costumes are pre-purchased by all Studio K Dance families however unless specified all additional accessories and hairpieces remain the property of Studio K Dance. 10

11 BALLET RIBBONS STEP 1: Buy Ribbons from a dancewear store. Ribbon bundles are sold in one long 2¼ metre length so the ribbon needs to be cut in half and then in half again so there are four pieces, one for each side of the shoe. STEP 2: Take one piece of ribbon and at one end fold one centimetre over once and then fold it over two centimetres again. STEP 3: To attach the ribbons at the correct angle, fold the back of the shoe forward and down, then mark each side of the shoe on the cotton lining in the angle made. STEP 4: Place the folded end of the ribbon at the marked position and sew as shown in the drawing onto the side of the shoe through the cotton lining but not through the satin. The ribbons may be angled forward if required to hold the shoe on more securely. 11

12 FINAL PREPARATION Stockings In the lead-up to our Photo Day and rehearsal days please ensure stockings are clean, shoes are polished and ballet ribbons sewn onto all ballet shoes of dancers over the age of 10. It is highly recommended to buy a new pair of stockings as it s always handy to have a spare pair in case of last minute runs or holes. Dance shoes Please polish all ballet shoes with salmon pink shoe varnish available from all reputable shoe and leather shops. It s recommended to clean dance shoes with a damp cloth before polish as this removes all unwanted grime before applying the final finish. Jewelry No jewelry is to be worn for Photo Day or rehearsal days following. This includes sleepers or stud earrings, rings, anklets, bracelets and necklaces. Nail polish All students need to remove nail polish before Photo Day and following rehearsal days. Dirty hair It is highly recommended that students do not wash hair in the days prior to performance or Photo Day. Dirty hair is easier to upstyle and the natural grease in hair stops hair slipping and causing fly aways. Valuables Whilst students may wish to bring valuable electronic items to the rehearsal days it is highly recommended that they bring books, puzzles or cards instead. Studio K Dance takes no responsibility for valuable electronic items that go missing on rehearsal or concert days. Communication Due to the busy nature on Photo Day, Stage Rehearsal, Dress Rehearsal and Tech Rehearsal/Concert Days, staff and parents helpers are focused on the running order of each day and therefore cannot answer phone calls, texts, s or social media messages. It is important to read this handbook in the lead-up to the ensuing weeks and ask questions well in advance.
