1 ROCKY MOUNTAIN PYGMY GOAT NEWS Volume 1, Issue 2 MARCH 2014 A Word from our Presidency Hello everyone, We wanted to apologize for the cancellation of the club meeting. We were really looking forward to seeing everyone but life just seemed to get in everyone s way. Thanks to everyone for understanding. We are going to try to have a meeting Friday May 9 th about 7:00pm at the Boise fairgrounds. Please submit any ideas or concerns to Scott prior to the meeting so we can put them on the agenda. As we think about what we need to do as a club to get more people involved, we wanted to remind everyone of the fliers that were made for each show and ed out a few weeks ago. As you sell your babies this spring please try to pass those out and encourage those people to come to the show. We have asked Jodie to include them in the newsletter but if you need a copy please Teasha and she will get you one. We also think we can get more participation with the RENT A GOAT program. We really think we can bring up our attendance with this idea if we all promote it. If you have someone interested but you don t have a goat they could use please contact Teasha, she will find one they can use. We had Jodie republish the show expense info as a reminder of what it takes to put these shows on and the importance of trying to bring in new exhibitors. Teasha is going to try to keep all of the clubs show info and newsletters posted on her website to help Karen out until she can get the new club website up & going. Just thinking we needed a spot this information could be retrieved until then. We are SO EXCITED to see everyone this spring! We are going to have a fun & fabulous show season! ~Your Presidency Inside this Issue of RMPGA Newsletter A word from our Presidency 1 Meeting Date and SHOW DATES mark your Calendars!! 6 YOUTH SPOTLIGHT Hello my name is Skylar Colwell, and here is a little bit about how I got showing pygmy goats. My first goat for showing was a wether named Rocky Road. He was just right for a six year old showing in showmanship. I used him for showmanship for a couple of years until one day my Mom got a wether she had sold back from a lady, his name was Georgie. He became my new showmanship goat. At first Georgie was hard to walk and just wouldn t cooperate. But my Mom would say just keep working with him and he will get better. So I did. I worked and worked with him until I started showing him all most every show that I could. Georgie helped me and I helped him (by rewarding him with grain) so, we made the perfect team. Not only was he good in showmanship, but he was also great in his wether classes. I started getting ribbon after ribbon and trophy after trophy until he soon became a platinum wether! This summer my Mom is going to give me a doe that is born here. She will be the first goat in my new herd. I hope that I will be very successful in my future goat showing and that I will learn as much as possible to be one of the best. And thank you all for supporting me in my goat showing. Skylar Colwell Rocky Mountain Pygmy 6

Bailee won Grand Champion Goat Showman and Reserve Champion Sheep Showman last year at fair. Bailee had the Grand Champion Pygmy Doe at the Wyoming State Fair. Bailee also loves to race motocross!
