1 october 27, 2016 The Bobcat Reed Elementary PTA Newsletter 1524 Jacob Avenue San Jose, CA (408) Popcorn Fundraiser Reed PTA is excited to announce the return of our Popcorn Fundraiser! It is one of Reed Elementary s most popular fundraisers and the proceeds support a variety of programs that directly benefit every Reed student, such as, Art Vistas, field trips, library books, music, and technology needs. Please join in this effort by selling Popcorn items to your co-workers, neighbors, friends, and relatives. Keep in mind the seasonal holidays are just around the corner as well! Popcorn is the perfect gift for anyone or is the perfect snack for holiday get-togethers! Submit your orders between Thursday, October 27th and Thursday, November 10th. Thank you for supporting our school and every child on campus! Attention Reed Parents: Victory Willow Glen is kindly offering a Parent s Night Out where 100% of the proceeds will go towards supporting science camp for Reed 5 th graders. (see attached flyer) This evening is open to the entire school, however there is a limit of 100 children. Please sign up on the RSVP Board to reserve your spot. All payments will be accepted at the door. Many have inquired about the minimum age for Parent's Night Out. Please note that Victory Martial Arts age requirements starts at 3 years and older. We hope this information helps in planning your evening. Thank you for your support. We look forward to a great event. For more information please contact Nancy Ellner at nellner@sjusd.org or stop by room C-1. Thank you, 5th Grade Team SMENCILS FOR SALE! Please support the 5 th grade Science Camp Fund by purchasing SMENCILS (scented pencils). An assortment of scents are available. The cost is $1 per pencil. Hurry while supplies last! Thank you!!

2 On Monday November 7 th, Reed School will start collecting dry & canned food items for the Second Harvest Food Bank, as well as good-condition heavy sweaters, hoodies, and coats for the One Warm Coat Drive, to help make sure everybody in our San Jose community will be warm this Winter. It would be wonderful as you shop to set aside a bag or two to fill for the SHFB and if your child has grown out of last year's coats, to set those aside as well. Thank you for your thoughtfulness and consideration for our community. We are proud of our school's generosity and your efforts to give back to greater San Jose! Hillary Young fooddrive@reedpta.com Boxtops Winner! close 2nd and Ms. McMahan's class finished in 3rd place. Everyone did a great job and together we raised over $500 through this program. Ms. Andrew's students will be treated to a special surprise from the PTA in the coming weeks. The next Classroom Challenge will be in the early spring of 2017 so please continue to clip and save those Boxtops you see on many common household grocery items such as plastic lunch bags, cereals, granola bars, canned vegetables, and yogurts. All Boxtops have an expiration date so it is important to turn them in during the contest periods so that they can be converted into cash for our students. The Boxtops collection container is located in the front office. Brandi Hoffman-Ooka boxtops@reedpta.com Congratulations to Ms. Andrews and her dedicated 3rd graders for winning the recent Boxtops Classroom Challenge. Ms. Daly's class came in a

3 Fall Festival was a HUGE Success Thanks to YOU! On behalf of the entire Reed community, we would like to extend our deepest gratitude to the volunteers who helped make this year's Fall Festival a grand success! Our festival is entirely dependent on the time, skills and efforts of our wonderful volunteers. If you contributed in any way, and attended the Fall Festival...THANK YOU!!! It was a team effort! It is because of YOU, that we were all able to come together as a community and enjoy the night! There are some key individuals that we would like to acknowledge. If you see the following volunteers on campus, give them a high five! Silent Auction Committee - THANK YOU for volunteering your time that night to help answer silent auction questions and oversee all the fantastic donations! Debbie Donohue- You dedicated several hours to locating, contacting, scheduling and making sure we had enough volunteers available to help set-up, run our games, participate in the Haunted House, and clean up after an evening of fun! We cannot THANK YOU enough! Liz Guthrie and Haunted House Committee - THANK YOU for taking on the haunted house again. We appreciate your creativity and love for Halloween. Your haunted house, as years before, was awesome! Kathy & Jason Townsend THANK YOU for managing the delicious food trucks and finding us a new dessert truck this year! Ann Sawicki THANK YOU for coordinating tickets sales and choreographing an amazing Fall Festival Dance Crew, who provided us with fantastic performances throughout the night. Julie Pozzi Thank YOU for ensuring the class baskets and scarecrows were a part of the silent auction. Andrea & Dan Whitson, Camila Rosa, Candy Flett, Connie Duley, Laura Cornett, Michele Greenwood, Sherry Rudy, Lisa Synodinos - you stepped in whenever we needed help and did so with a smile on your face! Thank you for helping us decorate and create a festive atmosphere. All Room Parents - THANK YOU for setting up our amazing CARNIVAL GAMES! You volunteered your time by creating or improving the games, setting them up, checking in on the student volunteers, and putting everything away! If that wasn't enough, you also helped coordinate the CLASS BASKETS and SCARECROWS! Your contribution to Reed is invaluable! DJ Tanaka - THANK YOU for providing us with the gift of MUSIC! We always look forward to seeing your smiling face and hearing your encouraging words! Mrs. Griffith- THANK YOU for being our wonderful emcee for the evening! You really brought the excitement to the night! Enrico Pezzaniti, our fantastic custodian thank you for all the work you did leading up to the festival, during and following! Faculty and Staff - THANK YOU for letting the students DUNK YOU, manning our TICKET BOOTH, letting us borrow your CLASSROOMS and the OFFICE, and donating TEACHER EXPERIENCES and, much, much, more! Your willingness to contribute to our Reed community really means the world to us! The PTA BOARD Members for helping with the numerous moving parts for this night. We hope you all enjoyed the Festival as much as we did! Jennifer, Stacey and Kara
