1 The Carswell Times 10th July 2015 Everyone had fun at the Reception and Nursery sports day. Well done to all the children who took part and thank you to everybody who came along to support us!

2 I liked it because it was fun and we went in the forest and I liked the Grufallo s house. I ran down the hill fast and I was tumbling down, all the way down. I liked playing with Daniel and Anna. Me and Anna saw some seeds on the ground and we planted them at hill end. Haribala Amber I liked going on the bus because I have never been on the school bus before and me and Liam sat together. I liked going in the maze except for the bit when I fell over! Joseph

3 I liked seeing the little house because I liked seeing the rabbit skin in the basket. I got pricked 5 times by a stinging nettle near the rabbit hole. Poppy I liked it when I went in the straw house, the three little pigs house! I ve got the story at home Samuel I liked when we ran to the top of the hill because I can see the whole wide world. Luna I liked the lambs and going up the hill. Lewis There was poo on the ground on the big hill from the animals I think It was smelly! Josh.A I liked the maze because we were playing hide and seek. When we were trying to get out we found an opening and we thought it was the end but it wasn t! But then we found our way Tia

5 We had a really busy two days at Hill End! The children all have their own favourite memories but some of mine were: playing games on the field; getting lost (and found!) in the maze; making lots of music in the Music Garden; challenging ourselves to climb the climbing wall; singing Happy Birthday to Summer; swimming in the rain; going on a bear hunt and finally the rope swing in the forest. For lots of the children this was one of their first night away and I was impressed the entire time by how well they all looked after each other. Lots of children tried (and enjoyed!) new food and they all loved eating all together. We all got a little bit of sleep too! I can t wait for next year and I know that the children feel the same.

6 Yes, it was that time of year again HILL END! The excitement had been building since Miss Smith & Gatekeeper Class had come to us to hear all about the wonderful things we could do at Hill End. We had a fantastic time and got to do all of the things we talked about and more. We began our 2 days with swimming in the freezing pool! Not that that put us off we had a great time slashing around and playing with the ball all that activity kept us warm. Next we made sweet music (?!) in the Sound Garden, enjoyed the Willow maze and then tested our skills on the climbing wall and the team building activities. We all successfully worked as a team to use planks to get ourselves from one end of a course to the other. We enjoyed yummy food provided by the wonderful Mrs Rutty & Mrs Neal. Then were ready for our campfire, a birthday treat for Summer and our torch walk before a bed time story. On our last day we went pond dipping and had a great time in the woods playing on the rope swing, climbing trees and building dens. We just had time for a play on the field before getting ready to go home. We had an amazing time and can t wait for next year!

7 Tortoiseshell Class Trip to Hill End On Tuesday 7 th July Tortoiseshell Class and Purple Emperor Class went to Hill End for Carswell School s annual trip to do some outdoor activities and sleep over. In the morning, we came into the classroom and put all our bags near our table spaces. Some people started to talk about what it might be like at Hill End. We were feeling really excited! Next, we got onto the coach and gave our suitcases to the driver, he put them on the coach. About fifteen minutes later we arrived at Hill End! Firstly, we got our bags and put them near the dining room. Miss Westell and Miss Werrell said we could have a little play. Then, we got our bags and went to the dorms. It started raining! So, we put on our raincoats and wellies and started to walk back down the hill. After, we went to the sounds garden and the adventure activity area. We climbed on the climbing wall and played on the spider web. You had to get through the web from one end to the other without touching the rope. Next, we went to the Blue Dragon to get our lunches then we sat outside in a circle and the sunshine to eat our lunch. Yum yum. After lunch, we went and played in the park and sandpit. Everyone went and played their own games. We then played a big game of rounders.

8 Before dinner, we went on a forest walk. It was really fun and awesome! In the forest we climbed trees, made dens and played with giant sticks. We walked to an old cottage and told stories. It was time for tea! We walked back through the forest and sat ready to eat. We ate sausages, burgers, chicken on the bone and jacket potatoes with salad. Then we sat around the fire pit and Mrs Kirkham made the fire. We had hot chocolate and melted marshmallows. The teachers took two marshmallows but the children only had one! Then we went to bed. The next day, we had our breakfast then went swimming! The pool was freezing cold and the water felt like ice! Lots of people were splashing each other. Later on, we walked back to The Blue Dragon, got changed then played some games. We played Duck, Duck, Goose and Ladders. It was time for lunch so we sat in a circle and ate our yummy sandwiches, crisps and fruit. When we finished lunch, we went to the maze. It was really easy. A few people cheated and went around the outside. We had one last play in the park and before we left we took pictures on the Hill End sign. Finally, it was time to go home, so we got on the coach back to school. Hill End was amazing. We had such a good time. By Tortoiseshell Class

9 PARKING We have had a request from the Conservative Club asking us to make parents aware who use their car park for drop off and pick that the Conservative Club will not be responsible for any incidents/accidents that may occur on their property.

There will be 2 performances as follows: Matinee performance: pm per ticket Evening performance: pm per ticket Tickets on sale from the Office or from the Playground before or after school. 12 Dear Parents & Carers, What an amazing week! It has been so much fun taking nearly the whole school to Hill End for the week. I have lost count of the magical moments that have happened but here are a couple: It s a lot like Forest School but we re all here together. This is the best trip ever! And, not quite so magical but very funny (said to me): What are you doing here? There s no assembly. The children explored every inch of the site as you will see in the short videos on the website as well as having a lovely time learning all about pond life, team building, orienteering, building shelters, playing, digging in the sand, swimming, swinging, climbing trees and much more. I tried my best to get everyone in the videos but they do move rather quickly so please forgive me if you can t see your little one! Mrs Rutty and Mrs Neal did a fantastic job on the food, working tirelessly all day and evening to produce enormous breakfasts, drinks, snacks, sandwiches, dinner and hot chocolate. Some of our Year 1 children were overheard having a meeting about the food saying that, It was actually quite nice, with regard to the Spaghetti Bolognese (praise indeed from a 6 year old as I m sure you ll agree!). I would like to take this opportunity to thank you, as the children s parents, for trusting us to take them away overnight. It is relatively rare for Year 1 and 2 to stay over somewhere and, the fact that you are willing to engage with this speaks volumes about our school community. Outdoor learning is a fundamental part on offer to children at Carswell and Hill End is such a beautiful, fun and educational place. It is also open for family events so do check out their website at: Next year is already booked for the w/b 11 th July. Next week brings a whole host of Leavers events for Year 6 please see dates in the Times and on the website for details of their production of The Wizard of Oz (all welcome), disco, as well as their Leavers Service.
