1 CHARLES F. BOLDEN, JR. ELEMENTARY/MIDDLE March 3, 2017 Vision Statement The vision of Bolden Elementary/Middle School is to increase student performance by inspiring curiosity and the love of learning in all students. Dear Parents, During the next week, March 6-10, students in grades three through eight will participate in Terra Nova testing. Terra Nova includes assessments in reading, language arts, mathematics, science and social studies. The assessment results will provide information to you and your child s teacher about your child s current achievement. We expect to see our students on time, and ready for Terra Nova testing on Monday morning. Angela M. Stephens, Ed.D. Principal GO EAGLES!! TERRA NOVA TESTING begins on Monday, March 6, at 8:00am sharp! Testing will be conducted all next week (March 6-10), so please make sure that your child arrives to school on time as there will be no classroom interruptions during testing. The Bolden Young Leaders of Beaufort student representatives will be holding a fundraiser. Students may purchase a ticket for $2.00 to wear an appropriate green shirt & jeans on FRIDAY, March 17 in recognition of St. Patrick's Day. Tickets will be on sale March No other St. Patrick's Day paraphernalia (hats, beads, etc.) will be allowed. The PTO would like to thank everyone who participated! Reading counts Since the beginning of the school year, our students have read 55,724,934 words in our Reading Counts program. Check out the total words read by each grade: 3rd 17,228,515 6th 2,187,074 4th 15,621,593 7th 392,228 5th 18,983,253 8th 1,312,271 Testing is a stressful time for all. Be positive about the situation reminding your child that the most important thing is to put forth a good effort. The more pressure placed on children to achieve certain scores the more stressful the situation becomes which could hinder their performance. Make sure kids get plenty of sleep, eat a good breakfast, and have something fun to look forward to when they get home.

CAFETERIA NEWS Parents, if your student is planning on eating the hot lunch at school, PLEASE help us get an accurate count for meals to serve. Recently we ve had issues with students not signing up for lunch but then are coming through the serving line. While we encourage all students to eat a hot lunch, we are also trying to keep costs down to a minimum. Please make sure your student is checking his/her name on the meal count sheet each morning so we have an accurate count of meals. This will help our staff in planning and assist in reducing food waste. Please feel free to contact our office at , if you have any questions. Thank you for your support. Mr. C. Food Service Director Laurel Bay Data Corner Since the beginning of the school year, Bolden has handled 43 student conduct incidents. The majority of incidents involve disrespect to adults and to peers (40%). As we do, please reinforce respectful behavior with your children at all times. BICYCLE SAFETY It s the law!! According to Air Station Order P5110.1E, anyone riding a bicycle on base is REQUIRED to wear an approved bicycle helmet. Also, Depot Order A(b) states that at age 5 a parent must remain with their child providing instructive supervision while riding and not until age 6 are children allowed to ride their bikes to school alone.
