5 Frenship High School Varsity Dance Team Contract All Frenship High School dance team members are expected to take part in the promotion of school spirit and loyalty. For this reason, being on the dance team is a very important leadership role at Frenship. Please read the following rules and requirements for Frenship High School dance team for the school year. In order to become a FHS Dance Team Member, you must meet ALL of the requirements listed below and follow ALL rules the entire time you hold the position of a pom squad member. Grades You must maintain a passing grade of 70 or higher in all classes to remain eligible. A failure in any one class or more for the six weeks will automatically bring you to probationary status in which case you will be unable to perform for a 3 week period. You will remain unable to perform for another 3 weeks if you are failing any class at progress report time. A second failure (for the 6 weeks) in any class during any reporting time will result in removal from the team. All decisions will be made by the coach and are final. Character /Citizenship Being on the dance team involves many responsibilities. Good leadership requires high moral character, good citizenship, and high ideals. This also includes social activities that take place during and away from school. Dance Team Members are expected to: *Take part in the promotion of school spirit and school loyalty. *Set an example for other students at all times. A dance team member s conduct is expected to be beyond reproach; failure to live up to the high standards of Frenship may result in suspension or dismissal from the squad. Members may NOT: *Violate school rules as outlined in the student code of conduct. *Use any form of social media to bully another person (squad member or otherwise) or post inappropriate pictures or comments. All squad members will be required to friend their coach on all active forms of social media. *Use drugs, alcohol, or tobacco on or off school property. *Be caught cheating or truant. *Engage in unlawful behavior on or off school grounds. We have a zero tolerance for this behavior. On the first offense, the squad member will be placed on probation. On the second offense, the squad member will be removed from the squad. Any member removed from the squad will not be allowed to audition for the dance team the following school year. Any member who resigns their position as a dance team member will not be allowed to try out the following year. Games, Performances, and Absences: It is very important that all members attend all games or events as scheduled. *You may have no more than 3 excused absences per school year. Work, lots of homework, and dance class at a local studio are not reasons to miss a game, practice, or other performance. All absences must be approved through the coach. This includes all mandatory practices, games, and performances. Another school sponsored, UIL event will not be counted against your absences. *Please be at ALL football games 1 hour early and all other games or performances 30 minutes early unless otherwise stated by your coach. Please call your coach if you are going to be late. Consequences for an unexcused tardy will be sitting on the sidelines during the first quarter of a football game or basketball game and the first short at a basketball game. Being late coming back after half time will result in the same consequence (sitting on the sidelines during the third quarter of a football game or basketball game and the second short at a basketball game). Excessive tardiness will be handled by your coach. *If a performance must be missed, it has to be cleared with your coach as soon as possible. Any member who misses a performance without any notification will be immediately dismissed from the squad. Work schedules and personal appointments are not excuses for missing any performances. Again, it is very important that all members attend all games or events as scheduled. * If you are not in complete uniform at a performance time, you will not perform until it is corrected. This includes the correct color of poms. *No dangly earrings, studs only!! No other jewelry! *No chewing gum during games. *You must be in place and ready to go 5 minutes BEFORE halftime is over at a football game and 1 minute BEFORE half time is over at a basketball game. * Keep talking to a minimum. We need to be paying attention to the game. * Please keep all of your belongings inside your bag against the stadium wall or in the tunnel.

6 * Please no food or drink cups on the court during a basketball game. * Please alert all friends of Dance Team members, they are not to talk to us during the games. Before/after the game and during half time is fine. * You must be at the practice prior to a performance to perform. You may not perform if you are absent from school the day of a game. In the case of a UIL event, prior arrangements for practice must be made to perform. Play-off Games: The varsity dance team will travel to the away play-off games for varsity football and both the girls and boys varsity basketball teams. Football games will continue to fall mostly on Fridays. Saturday games are possible. Basketball games will continue to fall on Tuesday and Friday. You must be flexible and prepared for short notice. All members are expected to attend all play-off games just like the regular season. Please do not schedule any family trips that will conflict with a play-off game until the season is over. Varsity Basketball Buddies: *Each varsity member will be responsible for 2 varsity basketball players/trainers/managers each week. We will draw for all basketball buddies. We will decorate the good luck bags and color locker tags weekly. EVERYONE will be expected to participate in this activity. If you are not at school the day BBB gifts are due, you must make arrangements with another squad member to make sure your bags get delivered. Classroom: * Please, no cell phones! It is a distraction in class to have them go off. You will be expected to keep them put away during class. * Please be in the dance studio dressed out and ready to stretch 5 minutes after the tardy bell rings for class. * If you are late to class you will be sent to the office for a tardy slip. * Please be respectful of others at all times and keep talking to a minimum in class. * You must be suited out for class. You MUST have jazz shoes or the appropriate footwear on. * There will be no food eaten during class. Water will be permitted. * Please schedule appointments around dance team class as much as possible. There are always going to be things to work on until the recital and auditions are over. Practices: There will be morning practices that will be required for competition and other needed times. Uniforms: Do not wear any part of your uniform to work out in during class. If you are not in complete uniform at a performance, you will not perform. This includes the correct color of poms. Please wash all uniforms separately in warm and hang them to dry. Please do not use fabric softener. Fabric softener breaks the fibers of the material down and wears them out faster. Uniforms with sequins will need to be washed by HAND in cold and hung to dry. (DO NOT have ANY uniform dry cleaned!) Do not cut any tags out of any of the uniforms! To alter a uniform, material may be taken up or let out but absolutely no material may be cut off. PLEASE check with Mrs. Ferguson before any alterations are made. If any part of a uniform is lost or ruined, the squad member must pay for that garment to be replaced. Your hair must be up out of your face during any performance. Cost and important dates: Members selected to the new Varsity Dance Team will be responsible for the following cost due after auditions. These items will be ordered through the school: Required: $ camp dues due the Saturday after try outs 4 poms - $ (optional for returning members) Squad t-shirts - $75.00 (approximate) Fleece - $ (optional for returning members) Blue pom squad duffle bag - $60.00 (optional for returning members) Optional: Letter jacket - $75.00 (for members who have not yet purchased a letter jacket)

8 SPIRIT ORGANIZATION CODE OF CONDUCT Frenship High School (Revisions as of January 2017) PREAMBLE The conduct of a student is closely observed in many areas of life. No student is obligated to take part in a spirit organization nor is it required for graduation. It is stressed that this is a privilege, and the sponsors and administrators have the authority to revoke this privilege when requirements are not met by the students. It is recognized that some of the following rules are stricter than for the general student body. However, leaders of spirit groups are expected to accept and to follow the established rules. Violation of the rules will result in corrective and/or disciplinary action. All known facts and circumstances will be taken into consideration when determining what action will be taken. Students may be disciplined or dismissed from the spirit program for violation of these rules. It is suggested that all spirit group leaders (cheerleaders, mascots, bell crew members, dance team members, bteamballers etc...) place themselves on the Honor System and report themselves when a mistake is made. To do so indicates a desire to do right and that they have a concern for the welfare of the team. If a leader is reported to any sponsor for violation of these guidelines, the sponsor and administration will investigate and take disciplinary measures if necessary. All student spirit leaders are expected to accept their sponsor s judgment regarding the handling of any case. I. STATEMENT OF INTENT A. All students who participate as leaders in the FHS spirit program, and their parents, will be required to sign a statement that they are aware of the significance of these guidelines before they can participate in a spirit organization. One signing per year, for each organization. B. Spirit leaders and their parents must be aware that the main degree of prevention lies in their hands. The sponsor will be bound by these guidelines. C. The sponsor/coach will be required to carry out these guidelines as fairly as possible. The sponsor/coach must: 1. Inform all spirit leaders under his/her supervision of these rules. 2. Apply rules and disciplinary action as fairly as possible as explained in this code. II. GENERAL GUIDELINES A. Any spirit leader found guilty of unlawful acts by law enforcement agencies will be subject to permanent expulsion from the entire spirit program. B. Any leader of a spirit organization found guilty of stealing or willfully destroying school property or property of a fellow student is subject to dismissal from the spirit program. This includes the taking or destroying of property at other schools. School discipline will also be issued. C. School policy states that students may not use or have in their possession any tobacco and alcohol products on school property or at school functions. Leaders of a spirit organization will abide by this policy or expect to be disciplined.

9 III. IN AND OUT OF SEASON GUIDELINES A. Spirit leaders are expected to act beyond the standards of conduct of other students as they are the leaders of the school. They must realize that because of the prominent role of being leaders of spirit organizations, their conduct must be above and beyond question at all times on or off campus. This includes attendance at parties or establishments where alcoholic beverages are being served in the presence of minors, as well as inappropriate language, behavior, pictures, and/or videos expressed on social internet sites, including, but not limited to, Facebook, snapchat, Twitter, YouTube, Instagram, or texting. B. INAPPROPRIATE SOCIAL MEDIA: Spirit Club members are representatives of Frenship High School and are expected to conduct themselves with dignity. This involves the way a spirit club members conduct themselves on social media sites and text messaging. C. ATTENDANCE AT PARTIES: It is noted that attendance at parties or establishments where alcoholic beverages are being served in the presence of minors is not permissible. D. ALCOHOL/DRUGS: Drinking of alcoholic beverages by an FHS spirit leaders or FHS spirit leaders who put themselves in situations where alcohol is being consumed, will be judged as such by their sponsors and administration and dealt with according to the student code of conduct. A leader of a spirit organization using legal drugs such as medication must inform his/her sponsor of such action and his/her parents and/or doctor may be consulted. Illegal drugs of any type including narcotics, marijuana, hallucinogens, sedatives and amphetamines are never acceptable. E. The consequences of inappropriate social media, smoking, the use of drugs, or the consumption of alcohol will be dealt with by the organizations sponsor and administration. VI. APPEAL PROCESS If the leader of a spirit organization in question is dissatisfied with the decision rendered by the sponsor, his/her next step would be an appeal to the spirit group school principal Scott Sims- FHS Cheer, Mascot and Bell Crew Jim Burke- FHS Dance Teams Joel Thompson- BteamBallers VII. CONCLUSION The Frenship High School Spirit Organizations sponsors and administration expect nothing but the very best from their program and the students who are representing our school as leaders. These leaders are expected to know right from wrong with the direction of their parents and help from their sponsors. Following these expectations and the code of conduct set by the sponsors, administration and this school, will be beneficial in developing a student s self-respect, respect of others, and the goals set by FHS spirit programs. Individual and team success can result only if students, parents, sponsors, administration and the community all strive to do the right things for the spirit program at Frenship High School.
