2 P ATRIOT TIMES P AGE 2 Around the School New Question: Where are the eighth graders going for the end of the year trip? Congratulations to Zeb Groves for answering last week s question. Ms. Kaia will be playing in her third North American Scrabble Championship this August. If you know the answer, then write it and your name on a piece of paper and put it in the Around the School box at the library circulation desk. One correct answer will be chosen. We may print that student s picture in the next issue, and the student will win a prize. Ask Phoebe Dear Phoebe, I was in a group with my friends and they were spreading rumors about my sister! When I went home she said I was rude. Now she hates me! What should I do? In Sadness, Hurt By Rumors Dear Hurt By Rumors, You should tell your sister that the rumors aren't true and maybe not hang out with those friends. You should also make sure she knows that you weren't spreading the rumors. Sincerely, Phoebe

Write your answer and your name on a piece of paper and put it in the box at the library circulation desk. One student with the correct answer will win a prize. Facts About Giraffes This mystery teacher likes heavy metal. Giraffes are the tallest mammals on Earth. Their legs alone are taller than many humans about six feet. They can run as fast as 35 miles an hour over short distances, or cruise at 10 mph over longer distances. A giraffe's neck is too short to reach the ground. As a result, it has to awkwardly spread its front legs or kneel to reach the ground for a drink of water. Giraffes only need to drink once every few days. Most of their water comes from all the plants they eat. A giraffe s spots are much like human fingerprints. No two individual giraffes have exactly the same pattern. The giraffe calf can stand up and walk after about an hour and within a week, it starts to sample vegetation. https://www.dosomething.org/facts/11-facts-about-giraffes
