7 ADT updte ADT will be holding its first ever Summer Intensive dnce school from Jnury 17 21, Designed for students interested in gining n insight into the workings of professionl contemporry dnce compny it is lso gret wy to improve dncing technique for those contemplting further study in dnce t secondry or tertiry levels. Bsed on the working week of n ADT dncer, students will be tught dily clss, skill development nd repertoire sections from Grry Stewrt s fmed productions Birdbrin nd G. Ech dy will begin with wrm up, followed by two technique clsses of either contemporry, bllet or tumbling. After lunch (provided by ADT) students move on to conditioning, cretive composition, or discussions bout how to tke cre of your body s professionl dncer. At the end of the week there will be n open rehersl for fmily nd friends to see the culmintion of ll the new skills in ction. 9 Kurruru Youth Performing Arts Min Min Kurruru brings the Min Min lights to Murry Bridge As dusk settles on the bnks of the Murry River, strnge light ppers on the horizon. It is bright nd it is moving! The community is thrown in confusion, but mong some it is replced by intrigue; Wht is it? Wht does it wnt? How do we tell others bout it? This is the strting premise of Min Min, the ltest work for Kurruru Youth Performing Arts nd the first work to be creted by new Artistic Director, Deon Hstie, hving its premiere seson in Murry Bridge from September 24 to 26 s prt of Ripples Murry Bridge, the 2010 Regionl Centre of Culture. The work hs been informed by the stories of the Ngrrindjeri people nd under Deon s direction, Min Min will sk udiences to see into the reltionship Aboriginl people hve with country, nd how n Aboriginl perspective offers explntions to every event, often different from tht of minstrem science. The Min Min Lights re phenomen tht science hs explined but still doesn t relly understnd nd Aboriginl communities hve completely different wy of understnding nd relting to them. DH Thnk you, I hope there will still be mny more opportunities to dnce. I don t truly feel tht my dncing time is over just yet, so yes, I cn sfely sy tht I would love to be performing in the future. DH Giving opportunities to indigenous youth in dnce nd performnce then seeing the rewrds they get from being included in telling story involving their culture. The youth here re very excited bout doing Min Min nd tht mkes me extremely excited lso. PC Min Min is your first work for Kurruru nd it is linked to mythologicl stories of the Ngrrindjeri people. How did you first become wre of these stories? DH I remember s child we would tell stories nd tles to scre ech other. These were sometimes stories of cretures nd things tht lived in the bush nd would pper minly t night. I knew tht there would be similr stories down here, so we looked into the locl re nd stories bsed on the river nd found the story of the Mulyewongk or bunyip s well s some other stories. PC Ngrrindjeri is one pproximtely thirty Aboriginl regions in South Austrli listed on the Mp of Aboriginl Austrli website: Wht region in Austrli re your own ncestors from? DH I m Tjupki the rinforest people from my fther s side nd on my mother s side I m from the Kuku Yidinji people, both re from Fr North Queenslnd.
