2 esson on uth (esson 15) lide 4 4 earning M Misfortune (uth 1:3-5) uth 1 3 Now limelech, Naomi's husband, died, and she was left with her two sons. 4 hey married Moabite women, one named rpah and the other uth. fter they had lived there about ten years, 5 both Mahlon and ilion also died, and Naomi was left without her two sons and her husband. lide 5 5 earning M Naomi returns home (uth 1:6-7) uth 1 6 When she heard in Moab that the D had come to the aid of his people by providing food for them, Naomi and her daughters-in-law prepared to return home from there. 7 With her two daughters-in-law she left the place where she had been living and set out on the road that would take them back to the land of Judah. lide 6 6 earning M Naomi s daughter-inlaws (uth 1:11-13) uth 1 11 But Naomi said, "eturn home, my daughters. Why would you come with me? m going to have any more sons, who could become your husbands? 12 eturn home, my daughters; am too old to have another husband. ven if thought there was still hope for me even if had a husband tonight and then gave birth to sons- 13 would you wait until they grew up? Where you go will go, and where you stay will stay. our people will be my people and your God my God. 17 Where you die will die, and there will be buried. Naomi said to her, "Go ahead, my daughter." 3 o she went out and began to glean in the fields behind the harvesters. s it turned out, she found herself working in a field belonging to Boaz, who was from the clan of limelech. lide earning M Boaz notices uth (uth 2:4-7) uth 2 4 Just then Boaz arrived from Bethlehem and greeted the harvesters, "he D be with you!" "he D bless you!" they called back. 5 Boaz asked the foreman of his harvesters, "Whose young woman is that?" 6 he foreman replied, "he is the Moabitess who came back from Moab with Naomi. 7 he said, 'lease let me glean and gather among the sheaves behind the harvesters.' he went into the field and has worked steadily from morning till now, except for a short rest in the shelter." lide earning M Boaz talks with uth (uth 2:8-9) uth 2 8 o Boaz said to uth, "My daughter, listen to me. Don't go and glean in another field and don't go away from here. tay here with my servant girls. 9 Watch the field where the men are harvesting, and follow along after the girls. have told the men not to touch you. nd whenever you are thirsty, go and get a drink from the water jars the men have filled." 4 of 7

Where did you work? Blessed be the man who took notice of you!" hen uth told her mother-in-law about the one at whose place she had been working. "he name of the man worked with today is Boaz," she said. 20 "he D bless him!" Naomi said to her daughter-in-law. "He has not stopped showing his kindness to the living and the dead." he added, "hat man is our close relative; he is one of our kinsman-redeemers." lide earning M Noami gives uth instructions (uth 3:1-4) uth 3 1 ne day Naomi her mother-in-law said to her, "My daughter, should not try to find a home for you, where you will be well provided for? 2 s not Boaz, with whose servant girls you have been, a kinsman of ours? onight he will be winnowing barley on the threshing floor. 3 Wash and perfume yourself, and put on your best clothes. hen go down to the threshing floor, but don't let him know you are there until he has finished eating and drinking. 4 When he lies down, note the place where he is lying. hen go and uncover his feet and lie down. But if you will not, tell me, so will know. For no one has the right to do it except you, and am next in line." " will redeem it," he said. 5 hen Boaz said, "n the day you buy the land from Naomi and from uth the Moabitess, you acquire [b] the dead man's widow, in order to maintain the name of the dead with his property." 6 t this, the kinsman-redeemer said, "hen cannot redeem it because might endanger my own estate. ou redeem it yourself. cannot do it." lide earning M Boaz marries uth (uth 4:7-10) uth 4 7 (Now in earlier times in srael, for the redemption and transfer of property to become final, one party took off his sandal and gave it to the other. his was the method of legalizing transactions in srael.) 8 o the kinsman-redeemer said to Boaz, "Buy it yourself." nd he removed his sandal. 9 hen Boaz announced to the elders and all the people, "oday you are witnesses that have bought from Naomi all the property of limelech, ilion and Mahlon. 10 have also acquired uth the Moabitess, Mahlon's widow, as my wife, in order to maintain the name of the dead with his property, so that his name will not disappear from among his family or from the town records. oday you are witnesses!" 6 of 7

For your daughter-in-law, who loves you and who is better to you than seven sons, has given him birth." 16 hen Naomi took the child, laid him in her lap and cared for him. 17 he women living there said, "Naomi has a son." nd they named him bed.
