1 JOHN A. BISHOP SCHOOL Principal s Update WINTER BREAK February SCHOOL CLOSED Bishop s 2 nd Annual Spirit Week - February Bishop s Spirit Week has been a huge success! Students and teachers have been engaged in discussions with the theme of, respect and respect for others and their differences, at the center of attention; one of the central core values at Bishop. DATES TO NOTE Monday, Feb. 18 th Friday, Feb. 22 nd Winter Break School Closed All week, our Bishop students have been entertained with scouringg the school, looking for the 30 posted Bishop Bear mascots, Buddy, Spirit, and Johnny, who have been strategically placed throughout building. I have had many students stop me in the hall or dropped by the office to inform me of how many bears they had found. Great stuff! Yesterday, the six different grade levels voted on the three school crest icons that will eventually be within the design of a new Bishop crest, made into a flag and hung with the American flag outside the school. The votes have been tallied and the winners are. Flower Blue Iris (93 votes, 70% of votes) Black eyed susan (22) Yellow daylily ( 17) Bird Mallard Duck (59 votes, 46% of votes) American Goldfinch (35) Great Blue Heron (18) Northern Cardinal (17) Tree Japanese Maple (95 votes, 49% of vote) Sugar Maple (76) White Spruce ( 24) We will be announcing the icon winners at today s Den Meeting, scheduled for 8:30am in the gym. Highlights, a wrap up discussion on respect, and a review of the week, are also on the agenda. A huge thank you to the Bishop Spirit Team, Joanne Routenberg,, Amy Speare, and Heather Hewitt, and the many volunteers, for making this second annual Spirit Week the success it was! Daffodil Day Daffodil orders are due on Wednesday, February 27th. Please consider ordering these beautiful flowers to support the American Cancer Society and to welcome Spring. Daffodil Day will be on March 20th when flowers will be distributed to the students. This also supports our Spirit Week's commitment of Regard for Others.
