1 HEBRON ATHLETICS WHAT IS RIGHT FOR ME? ALL ACTIVITES ABIDE BY UIL NO PASS NO PLAY GUIDELINES. ALL STUDENTS MUST HAVE A PHYSICAL EXAMINATION FORM ON FILE BEFORE BEGINNING ANY ACTIVITY. BASKETBALL - BOYS bishopml@lisd.net or ext Class meets 3 rd period in the fall and 4 th period in the spring. During the season all players must be available for Saturday, Thanksgiving, and Christmas holiday practices and games. In order to be placed in the fall off season class, a student must have participated on their 8 th grade middle school team. Approval from the head coach must be obtained by anyone outside LISD attendance zone in order to be placed in the fall off season class. Open tryouts will be held in late October for all interested students. Cost Participation in all fundraisers. Participation in outside leagues is encouraged. BASKETBALL GIRLS Head Coach Stacy McDonald cell phone mcdonaldsl@lisd.net Class meets 1 st period fall and spring. The Hebron Lady Hawk Basketball program is on the rise. New Head Coach Stacy McDonald s desire is to increase the number of athletes that participate in basketball and build this program into a perennial power house 9-12! That being said, Lady Hawk Hoops invites all incoming 9 th graders who are interested in playing basketball to sign up for 1 st period basketball. Since we are allowing anyone to sign up for the basketball period there will be tryouts the first 3 days of school to see if the athletes need to remain in the period. This is not a tryout to assign athletes to specific teams. This is simply a tryout to see if the athlete is skilled enough to participate in the basketball program. We do this early so that students can get there schedule changed if they are not skilled enough to participate in the program. Coach McDonald urges those who do sign up for the basketball period to participate in the Hebron Lady Hawk Hoops Basketball camp during summer 2012 at Hebron High School. This camp is highly recommended for all incoming 9 th graders because it will give them a jump on making it through the tryouts. BASEBALL BOYS - stones@lisd.net or The baseball program is looking for young men with great work ethic, high character and good baseball skills. Fall Semester: Freshmen can sign up for offseason baseball in the fall. This class will be offered during 3rd period. The objective of this class is to help with player development. Games are Tuesday and Fridays with some weekend tournaments and/or practices. Tryouts are mandatory and start the first week in August, BEFORE school begins. EVERYONE must have a UIL physical prior to tryouts every year. Team camp is the last week in July (3-5 days) and although it is NOT mandatory, it is beneficial to those athletes who are trying out for volleyball. It is IMPERATIVE that athletes receive information from Coach Keeney before August tryouts. Information can be found in a
5 summer packet that will be delivered to all our feeder middle schools in MAY. The packet will give parents/athletes important dates and paperwork that are necessary for August tryouts. Conditioning and weightlifting occur year round with offseason workouts that include running, footwork, plyometrics and skill training. Athletes wanting to tryout need to understand that the volleyball program s expectations have high demands on student/athletes. We pride ourselves on our work ethic and hold ourselves to a high standard on the court and in the classroom. Many athletes play club volleyball and although it is very beneficial, it is not mandatory. Athletes will be measured on athleticism, skill, and knowledge of the game.
