Nurse Lucas and JoKay will be near the front entry to welcome you when we return on Jan. 5th, I would like to take this time to wish you and your family a safe and Happy Holiday! ~Mr. Gregg Goewert From the Sports As we get into the winter sport season with anticipation of strong showings from our wrestlers, swimmers, and basketball players, we also look forward to seeing the progression of our bowlers and archery members who began competing as club sports just one year ago. The cheerleaders who compete throughout each sports season had a school first as they competed at state for the first time ever and had a strong showing placing 7th. As the fall season ended, we also had a first with our volleyball team as they won the school's first ever sectional championship and lost in the regional to the eventual state champion Providence Pioneers. The SCHS Lady Pacers captured the first volleyball sectional win in the history of SCHS! The ladies moved on to state but were defeated in a hard fought game. CELEBRATE! Page 2 The Pacer Post

3 SPORTS OF ALL SORTS! Ruler of the River The SCHS Lady Pacers defeated the Rising Sun Shiners to capture the trophy this year. This is an ongo- ing game with the trophy being passed between the two teams as an annual event. Way to go Lady Pacers! RUNNING AS FAST AS WE CAN! Talen Taylor, Whitley Schirmer, and Cameron Ray ran all the way to the semi state this year. SCHS is very proud of all three students! CONGRATULATIONS PACERS! December 2014 Page 3

4 WHAT S HAPPENING AT SCHS! ***ATTENTION*** All athletes must use the back entrance to the gym over the Christmas break. Construction work will be going on at the front entry. Our first Snow make up day will be Jan. 19th 2015, MLK Day. Veterans Day at SCHS A large crowd attended the Veterans Day program at the SCHS. Veterans Tim Swango and Pete Furnish were honored. 6 CHRISTMAS BREAK The last day of school before Christmas will be December 19, We will return to school on January 5th, Have a very Merry Christmas and a Happy New Year! WE HAVE AN EXCELLENT STAFF THAT ENCOURAGES EACH STUDENT TO DO THEIR BEST. PAST TRADITIONS STILL FOLLOW, AS WELL AS IMPLEMENTING NEW ONES! WE WILL CONTINUE TO STRIVE FOR VICTORY IN ALL WE DO AT SCHS IN ACADEMICS AS WELL AS SPORTS!! Debbie Seaver leaving SCHS Last week, Debbie Seaver announced that she will be leaving SCHS. 7 DRAMA CLUB CHRISTMAS PLAY SCHS will be presenting War World ll Radio Christmas on Saturday December 20th, in the SCHS cafeteria. The play will start at 7:00. Tickets will go on sale December 12th for $4.00 and admission at the door is $5.00. See Mrs. Barwick or any Drama Club performer for tickets or for more information call ONCE UPON A TIME, I ROAMED THESE HALLS! Adam Dennis is a product of SCHS, graduating in As a student, he participated in basketball, track, and cross country, with the CC team winning conference that year. Present staff members that were here in 2001 are Mrs. Hendricks, Mrs. Sanabria, Mr. Jackson, Mr. Curlin, Mr. Todd, and Kim Stout. Adam said he really enjoyed Mrs. Hendricks class. He said they had a lot of fun! M&M, Vanilla Ice, and George Strait were his favorite musicians. Students didn t have cell phones in 2001, but he liked to play 007 on the Nintendo 64. Punk rock was popular back in the day but he was a self proclaimed dork. Adam majored in math and graduated from Manchester College in He was hired by SCHS the same year as a math teacher. In 2001 he was named Prom King and in 2014 he was named varsity coach of the SCHS Pacers. SCHS is proud of our home town boy!!! December 2014 Page 7

8 David Todd named Assistant Principal of the year David Todd graduated from Southwestern High School in 1985 and went on to graduate from IU in Little did he know then that he would be named SCHS Assistant Principal of the year in David started working at SCHS in He was the Pacer Varsity Coach from and is now in his second year of coaching the Lady Pacers JV team. Mr. Todd has been Assistant Principal and A.D. at SC since He is very proud to receive this honor from the Indiana Assistant School Principals. We, at SCHS are fortunate to have David Todd as a staff member, coach, and a friend to the staff, parents, and students. When ask what he is going to do next, his answer was, I m going to Disney World! He is also a good sport and appreciates a joke! Thank you Mr. Todd for all you do at SCHS! Pacer Varsity Club dinner a huge success SCHS sponsored the school s inaugural Varsity Club dinner on Nov. 6th. A large crowd of over 200 Pacer fans attended the event to raise money for the Pacer athletes. Guest speakers were former IU basketball players Landon Turner and Ray Tolbert. A buffet dinner was served along with two auctions. The auctions and corporate sponsors raised approximately $6000. Pacer info at
