Trophy/ Donations Sponsorship: We are also seeking sponsorship for Age Sections, Scholarships and Age Championships. Studios or Individuals will receive acknowledgement in the program, printed under the sponsored section, along with announcements during the Eisteddfod. Please include which section you would prefer in the Entry Form or alternatively contact our Treasurer for more information.

3 All sponsorships/donations are greatly appreciated. ***Please read schedule carefully. *** RULES 1. All competitors take part in the Eisteddfod at their own risk. No entry will be accepted without the release & indemnity section (on the reverse side of the entry form) being completed. 2. Entries: - i) All Entries in all sections must be lodged by closing date. ii) All entries should be made on the official entry form. iii) Entries will not be accepted unless accompanied by the correct amount of entry fee, please check carefully as no fee will be refunded for incorrect entries. iv) Late Entries will only be accepted for 1 week i.e. by 10/03/2018 with a late fee of $ After this date all entries will be returned. v) Entry fees shall only be refunded if a section is cancelled. vi) The Committee reserves the right to refuse any entries and the decision of the Committee is final and binding. vii) Please make all cheques, money orders or postal notes payable to Lower Clarence Dance Eisteddfod Inc. 3. No responsibility will be taken for accidents, thefts or lost property at the Eisteddfod. 4. Age determination dates: i) All Solo & Duo/Trio competitors who are subject to any AGE LIMIT, the age as at 1 March 2018 shall be deemed to be the age of the competitor. ii) Troupe competitors who are subject to any AGE LIMIT, the age as at the 1 st January 2018 shall be deemed to be the age of the competitor. iii) New competitors must forward a photocopy of their Birth Certificate. iv) The committee reserves the right to call upon any competitor either Soloist or Troupe members any time during the Eisteddfod to furnish proof of their age. v) In the case of competitors under the age of 18 years, a declaration must be made on the entry form by the parent or guardian, giving the date of birth, as well as the age of entrant. 5. Sections: i) In any section, where there are insufficient entries the Committee may exercise their discretion with regard the retention of such sections and reserves the right to place competitors into the next eligible section. ii) For any sections where abundant entries are received the Committee may exercise its discretion to divide such sections. iii) The Committee reserves the right to transfer a competitor to another section if they believe any error has been made. Please check you have entered the competitor in the correct section. iv) The Committee reserves the right to amend the program at any time during the Eisteddfod by varying the order of the competitors or sections. 6. The competition shall be open to amateur performers only. Amateur Performer shall be defined as any person who does not derive the whole or substantial part of his/her income either as a performer or teacher or student teacher of dance.

4 7. Protests: i) Competitors will be regarded as being conversant with the rules of the competition. The plea of lack of knowledge will not be accepted as a bona fide reason for the infringement of any rule. ii) Protests, if any shall be lodged with the Secretary in writing immediately after (no longer than 10 minutes) the section in respect of which the protest is entered and must be accompanied by $50 which shall be forfeited if the protest is deemed to be frivolous or unfounded. iii) The decision of all available dance committee members, and a minimum of 3 members, in all questions and disputes arising out of, or not provided for in these rules, shall be final. All entries are therefore deemed to be made subject to this condition and decisions of the quorum of the dance committee shall not be subject to any appeal of law as being contrary to the spirit of friendly competition upon which this Eisteddfod is based. 8. Competitor & audience behaviour: i) No teacher, parent or friend will be permitted to view dances side stage or to make contact with a competitor during any section of the Eisteddfod. ii) No prompting will be allowed other than by the Adjudicator. Prompting from the audience is strictly forbidden and is liable to result in disqualification of that competitor. iii) Bad behaviour: Any person who is found to be acting in an abusive or destructive manner; or is disrespectful to the Committee, Eisteddfod volunteers, or other competitors, may be disqualified or eliminated from further competition for that year. This rule also applies to any members of a competitors support group (including parents). iv) No smoking within the Hall or adjoining rooms. v) Private video recorders/mobile phones are not permitted. vi) Still or flash photography by cameras or mobile phones is not permitted. If you do not adhere to the videoing & photographing rules you will be asked to leave the hall and the competitor may be disqualified. The committee has engaged both professional Videoing and Photography for the duration of the Eisteddfod. 9. Stage & performers: i) No teacher will be allowed on the stage with a competitor. ii) Stage curtains will remain open for the entire Eisteddfod this includes Troupe Day. iii) Only officials & stagehands are allowed side stage/in the wings during performances. One supporter only, whether it is a Teacher, Parent or Friend is allowed side stage for 8 years & under solo items. Only one person per group will be allowed side stage for troupe sections. Backstage personnel have the right to remove any persons who breach this Rule. This rule will be strictly upheld. iv) Competitors must be ready to perform in the section and in order of which their names appear in the program. Competitors must remain away from the stage area, unless they are competing in the section being performed. v) All competitors are requested to register with the back stage volunteers, one section before commencement of their item. If not it will be assumed that the competitor is not competing. Should a registered competitor need to be called or miss their order of performance they will be automatically disqualified. It is not the responsibility of the back stage personnel to search for missing competitors!!

5 Props: Dangerous props are forbidden. No liquid, powder, or fine particles, difficult to remove from the stage are to be used during the performance. Glass, naked flame, objects thrown from stage into the audience, or anything else that could make the floor slippery or endanger either competitors or audience in any way are similarly prohibited. No stage property to be used without the prior permission of the dance Committee. All props must be portable and capable of being easily handled by back stage personnel as no other person is allowed back stage during any performance (with the exception as mentioned in Rule No. 9 (iii) This rule must be strictly adhered to, if not the competitor may be disqualified. 10. Adjudicator: i) The Adjudicator s decision shall be final and he/she shall have the power to withhold or divide prizes according to merit. He/she must announce this decision when making the decision. The Committee shall not enter into any discussion contrary to this. ii) No competitor over the age of 10 years can repeat a dance after a breakdown except at the request of Adjudicator. In this case no mark will be awarded, just adjudication. Competitors up to the age of 10 years can repeat the dance at the request of the Adjudicator and mark and report will be given. This rule applies to all sections including Championships. iv) Communication with the Adjudicator during the competition, except by the Committee, is absolutely forbidden. If breached will lead to automatic disqualification. Any inquiries must be made in writing and handed to the committee on duty. 11. Tap shoes must be covered if worn in the hall. 12. Duos/trios: i) No competitor may appear more than twice in the same Duo/Trio Section. ii) No Duo/Trio consisting of Identical Dancers may appear more than once in the same Duo/Trio section. iii) No Teacher or Parent is permitted to perform with the Duos/Trios. 13. Novice sections: Are for those competitors who have never won a first place in the relevant category in any prior Eisteddfods. This section is open with no KM limit. 14. No competitor shall be allowed to render the same item in more than one section, except in the Scholarship, Novice sections & Tiny Tots section (items may only be repeated once).a slight variation of steps does not constitute a new routine. Competitors may dance in one solo only in each style of dance. 15. Troupes: i) All troupes must have four (4) or more dancers in it. ii) Competitors in dance Troupe sections will be permitted to compete twice in the same section. i.e. No more than 2 groups per section - A & B only. iii) Song & Tap or Song & Dance Troupes should be entered under Variety in the appropriate age section. 16. Stage Area metres deep & 7 metres wide.

6 17. Music: i) Music must be recorded on CD. ii) Recording of CD - If the CD is prepared on a home computer, ENSURE it is finalised properly, and plays through a normal audio system. Please do not use RW-CD s (Re w riteable): These are meant for computers and are sometimes not recognised in sensitive replay equipment. iii) A Separate CD for each dance is required, submitted in a protective case. This means only the one track relevant to the dance should be on the CD. iv) The Competitors Name, Number, On/Off Stage, Tag and Section number must be clearly written on the CD. Do not use labels as this may cause CD failure. v) Always have a back up CD for each item in readiness. vi) There is to be no tapping on any music being used for any tap item. vii) No vocals on any music when competitors are singing in any Song & Dance or Song & Tap section. viii) Apra number must be on entry form. ix) The Lower Clarence Dance Eisteddfod Incorporated does not accept any responsibility for any infringement of the Copyright Act. x) The Committee also does not accept responsibility for loss of any music during the Eisteddfod, please take care and collect your music after each item. Please note: you are able to utilise either a lap top or an ipod if your CDs are unable to be played through the system. However this is only as a last resort. You will have to personally play the music and it will not be the responsibility of the music person. 18. Time Limits: Troupes:- 12 Yrs & under- No more than five (5) minutes. 14 Yrs & Opens- No more than seven (7) minutes. Solos- Song & Dance- Championships- Calculated from the first step of the dance or with the start of the music to the end of the music. Bows to music are considered part of the routine and will be timed. Time limits are to be strictly adhered to or risk automatic disqualification. 19. Dancers own choreography: No more than three (3) minutes. No more than four (4) minutes. No more than four (4) minutes. Solos only Dancers to choose own music and style of dance. Costume to suit dance. This must be FULLY students own work. Please note that no duo/trios are permitted in this section. They must enter in the duo/trio section in their appropriate age. 20. Variety troupe section: This item must not include any other style of dance which is included in this syllabus. Examples to be used are: Mime with dance, soft shoe, Acrobatic, Musical Comedy Routine, and Comedy Dance Routine.

7 21. Improvisations: i) Improvisations are open to ages from 8 years & over. ii) Costume Guidelines no spots, stripes, patterns or metallic fabrics will be allowed. Regulation or exam attire must be worn, maximum 2 colours, Short skirt optional (Knee length or above). Tight shorts or jazz pants permitted for jazz impro. Matching scrunchie, ribbon or plain adornment may be worn in hair. No sequined/crystal hair accessory. Earrings: Plain studs or sleepers only. No diamonte earrings. No glitter make-up, eyelashes or Glitter Spray. iii) Music is set by the Adjudicator. iv) Competitors to improvise the dance after hearing the music once only. 22. Please note that after each section adjudicator s reports are not to be collected from committee table until at least 10 minutes after section has finished. 23. Championships: i) All competitors must qualify in their age solo sections to be eligible to compete in Championships. - See Championship Section.(After section numbers) ii) In any Championship section, if a minimum of Five (5) entries (in each championship section) are not received the Committee may exercise their discretion with regard to the retention of such section and reserves the right to place competitors into the next eligible section. (Novices are not eligible for Championships) iii) Prize money will be given. 24. Scholarships: To be eligible for each Scholarship competitors must compete in Age Sections in the appropriate dance style. Competitors entering the Scholarship will be privileged to take a class by the Adjudicator, where finalists will be chosen to dance at the Presentation afternoon. Also note if a minimum of Seven (7) entries (in each scholarship section) are not received the Committee may exercise their discretion with regard to the retention of such section and reserves the right to place competitors into the next eligible section. Competitors will be advised if insufficient entries are received and refund of entry fee will be held at Committee table for collection during the Eisteddfod if cancelled. 25. Presentation : The Dance Gala Concert will be held Saturday 6 May 2017 at the Civic Hall from 4pm. It will include Performance Scholarships, additional Award presentations and selected Group Performances. Any group and soloists selected to perform will be notified as early as possible to the Gala Concert by the Committee. 12 CHAMPIONSHIPS: Qualifying Dances: For all Age Groups:- Classical - Must compete in Classical and Demi-Character Solo Sections. Jazz - Must compete in Modern/Expressive and Jazz/Hip Hop Solo Sections. Tap - Must compete in Tap & Waltz Tap or Tap Impro. Solo Sections. Contemporary - Must compete in Contemporary and Contemporary Improvisation Sections. SCHOLARSHIPS: Qualifying Dances: For all Age Groups: Classical - Must compete in Classical solo section. Jazz - Must compete in Jazz/Hip Hop solo section. Tap - Must compete in Tap solo section. RULES 1 st or 2 nd place does not have to reside in the local area. Place getters can be from any area.
