1 RCRC Lunch Meeting on 3 rd February 2009 With our President away, PE Steven Teng chaired the lunch meeting. This was also the first meeting of the Lunar New Year & it was appropriately observed with the traditional Lo Hei Prosperity Salad tossing. This was done with much gusto by the 19 members, 2 Visiting Rotarians & 1 guest in attendance. Visiting PDG Kenneth Chew came forward to update members on the forthcoming joint Rotary Clubs Dinner to be held on 6 Mar in honour of visit by RI President D.K.Lee (Refer club announcement). Coincidentally at that dinner, MM Lee Kuan Yew will be attending & bestowed with the RI Award of Honor putting him in company of distinguished personalities like Nelson Mandela, Kofi Annan, Mikhail Gorbachev & others. Dir Aaron Tan informed members of postponed Chinese New Year Fellowship into 14Feb 2009 which incidentally is Valentine s Day PP Ron Pereira also made a personal appeal for members to support his annual endeavour with other friends (some from Rotary) to bring cheer to a small Orang Asli community in neighbouring Malaysia. Well wishers may like to bring used clothes in good condition of course to be collected by PP Ron at next Tuesday s lunch meeting. Sunshine Box contribution was $135 through the simple decree by Sgt-at at-arms arms PP Wee Koon San for all Chinese members attending to contribute! The restaurant owner was shocked and asked the man where he could get so many frog legs! The farmer replied, 'There is a pond near my house that is full of frogs - millions of them. They all croak all night long and they are about to make me crazy!' So the restaurant owner and the farmer made an agreement that the farmer would deliver frogs to the restaurant, five hundred at a time for the next several weeks. The first week, the farmer returned to the restaurant looking rather sheepish, with two scrawny little frogs. The restaurant owner said, 'Well... where are all the frogs?' The farmer said, 'I was mistaken. There were only these two frogs in the pond. But they sure were making a lot of noise!' Next time you hear somebody criticising or making fun of you, remember, it's probably just a couple of noisy frogs. Also remember that problems always seem bigger in the dark. Have you ever laid in your bed at night worrying about things which seem almost overwhelming like a million frogs croaking? Chances are pretty good that when the morning comes, and you take a closer look, you'll wonder what all the fuss was about. (Kind contribution by PP Wee Koon San)
