1 W e e k l y L e t t e r t o P a r e n t s 9 th February 2018 If you want to be of use to others, begin by taking pains with yourself Saint Ignatius Dear Parents The last few weeks have certainly been marred with lots of bugs and illnesses, for both children and staff, and we all really hope the half term break will enable everyone to recharge their batteries! We are so lucky to live in an area with so many different attractions to keep the children busy over the holidays and not just London, a train journey away with all the museums etc. Oxford has lots to offer with The Story Museum and the Ashmolean Museum both running half term events for families; there is also the Botanic Gardens, Christchurch Cathedral, Museum of Modern Art and the Museum of Science History. Closer to home, the museum in Aylesbury always has interactive exhibitions and the Roald Dahl Museum in Great Missenden has daily beast-making sessions! If your child is in Year Four they may enjoy a visit to Reading Museum, where they have a life-size replica of the Bayeux Tapestry. Whatever you choose to do, we hope you have a lovely half term. Miss Kape We are looking forward to welcoming Miss Kape back to St Teresa s after half term. She will be working as a Teaching Assistant in Year Five next half term, whilst Miss Gardner is continuing her teacher training at her second school placement. World Book Day We will be celebrating World Book Day in school on Friday 2nd March. We have a Young Shakespeare performance for Key Stage Two and Story Telling workshops for EYFS and Key Stage One, as well as other activities planned. Just so you have some advanced warning the children will be asked to come dressed as their favourite book character on the day. Tanzania Charity Thank you! A huge thank you to everyone for supporting our fundraising efforts this week for the Tanzania Charity. Your financial help will go a long way to helping those in need. Inter-House Cross Country Results After two very successful Inter-House Cross Country events, I am pleased to announce the following results. St. Catherine in 3 rd place, St. Mary Magdalene 2 nd and St. Aloysius 1 st. With 12 children taking part in four matches, it was a great opportunity for all players involved to play a lot of minutes. Our first game was against our hosts Princes Risborough, Sebastian was making his debut and he made a positive start in midfield. After five minutes, Sebastian s shot was followed up well by Ben, who slotted the ball home for our first goal. Risborough responded well and despite some last gasp tackles by Calum, Risborough scored well from a corner kick. Both sides had opportunities to take the lead, but it ended scores even. In the second match, we rotated the squad and handed Charlie his first match for St Teresa s in goal. In an assured performance, the children coped well with a new system and didn t look under threat at any point and we earnt a deserved scoreless draw. Naphill was next up. George and Adam A produced our best attacking moments of the game and Charlie cemented his place in goal with an accomplished performance, despite this Naphill grabbed a goal on the counter and that is how it ended.

In our final fixture, Stokenchurch proved to be our most difficult opponent. After conceding in the first minute, the children battled hard to try and limit Stokenchurch and catch them on the counter.

Chasing the game and pushing forward, we conceded two late goals, making it 3-0 at the end.

I was very impressed with all of the children s efforts, not only did they compete well against difficult opposition, they supported each other throughout and should be very proud of their achievements. Sulgrave Manor Year Five stepped back in time during their visit to Sulgrave Manor, a Tudor Manor that was home to George Washington's ancestors. Perhaps ask your children what the phrase, sleep tight means! I really enjoyed our brilliant trip to Sulgrave Manor especially when we got dressed in Tudor costumes. - Cristain I learnt that the base of a loaf was given to the poor as a plate to eat. - Ben My favourite part was visiting the blacksmith s house. He made his house and the tools he used. - Calum I loved dressing up like Tudors and acting out the key events in Henry VIII life. I also learnt how to greet a man or a boy. - Eleanor I learnt that if you had a chimney that was well made you were probably rich. - Will

5 My favourite part of going to Sulgrave Manor was acting out the kings and queens during the Tudor era. - Hattie People Who Help Us Year two welcomed Miss Craker, PC McKinney and Father Joseph this week as part of our 'People who help us' learning. The children asked a series of questions to their visitors and they found out about how their jobs help people. Meet Frodo! Reception class had a wonderful visitor this week.
