1 Upcoming Events: July 4 th - Los Molinos Parade. We will be meeting at the Los Molinos Veterans Hall at 8:30 am for set up. The parade doesn t start till 10am but they requested we be there at 8:30 am. Full uniform with Red National underneath. Recruits- grey t-shirt and dark blue jeans no holes. Weather (heat) will dictate if we keep on the blouse for those in full uniform. If for some reason we have you take them off, please see Mrs. Kain to pick up your blouse and get signed out! Participants will be earning some community service hours. July 9th Drill Day (mandatory) we will be having swim qualifications for those who haven t earned their ribbon yet and those who haven t had it in the last year. We will have free swim time right after, Mr. Kain is cooking hot dogs for lunch and everyone can enjoy the summer sunshine together. Team building. We will be meeting at the Red Bluff Home Depot parking lot and then we can have everyone follow us to the residence hosting the swim qualifications. Please wear swim suits- females must be in one piece or a t- shirt covering her two piece. Bring a towel, drink, wear sunblock and flip flops/water shoes. See attached information on the swimming ribbon available! July 23rd Drill Day (mandatory) We will be enjoying the Change of Command Ceremony today with our entire Young Marine family, special guests and news media to thank Mr. Crane for his years of service as Unit Commander and welcome our new Unit Commander. We will be meeting at the location at 8am to set up for the event and the event starts at 10 am. We will have the ceremony and then followed it with refreshments. We cannot express how important it is that all Young Marines, recruits, and everyone s family attend this event. July 30th- CAR WASH! We hope everyone has been selling those tickets. We have already had requests for another packet from some young marines. We will meet at the DRC (normal drill site) at 9 am to set up the pop ups, coolers, hoses, seating, supplies, etc. Come dressed in black shorts, red national, flip flop/water shoes and sunblock! Bring your lunch, water, ready to clean cars. Mrs. Kain will be accepting the money and ticket stubs at every drill and will keep everyone informed on how much they have raised thus far. Don t forget there is a ribbon up for grabs too. If someone says I don t need a car wash, but can I donate? yes. It counts towards your money raised too. ***With the new attendance policy- if you cannot attend any of the above events you must give prior notice to UC Kain before the date with a valid excuse. (valid- school, team sport, out of town, medical etc) We have an attendance form for extended periods of leave that can be found on the website and turned in or mailed prior to leave. If it is not filled out before your extended leave all mandatory events will be marked unexcused. This policy started June 4, UC Kain (530) or ed to tehamacountyyoungmarines@gmail.com
2 Happy Birthday: 3rd- Williams 24 th Reyes, Elly OOH-Rah! Gas Can won a medal for most miles walked at Relay For Life In May Miles! We had two promotions in June Sgt. Kain is escorting Rct. Heise and Rct. Williams to recruit training with Golden Gate YMs. Good Luck gentleman, we will be sending you good thoughts. Sergeant Kain is going to Senior Leadership School July th! Good Luck. June in Review: June 4 th - the Unit BBQ was a huge success. We had a very large showing. We enjoyed some delish bbq, played on the water slide, and enjoyed meeting everyone s families. Mr. Kain spoke about all the new changes and asked for input. We got many suggestions that this BBQ become a yearly event we better get to doing those fundraisers! Mr. Kain addressing families. Water slide was never empty. Enjoying their free time.
3 June 11 th Drill- Drill at our new location. All the kids really enjoyed the new location and the classroom is perfect for us. Thank you again to Chief Richard Muench and Sheriff Dave Hencratt for trusting us with the building. We showed everyone a video on what a Change of Command Ceremony looks like. We did our DDR hour and Mr. Kain explained the upcoming events and went back over the attendance policy. Mrs. Kain met with young marines in attendance and updated their ribbon racks and took their requests for uniforms. Thank you to those who donate uniforms they have outgrown we were able to several items to recruits/young marines that need uniforms before the August 31 st. deadline. We handed our several certificates for ribbons to young marines that had worked hard to earn them. PVT Vasconcellos is now a PFC! CPL Kain made Sgt. YM s doing obligation. June 12 th - Flag Retirement with the Marine Corp League and members of the Elks at the Red Bluff Elks Lodge #1250. We were so excited to be part of the ceremony and the Young Marines present earned community service hours towards their ribbons. Watching the Marine Corp League burn the flag was very moving I took a moment to reflect on what I was seeing. I was watching several Marine Corp vets burning some of the flags that symbolize what they hold dear and fought for awesome sight. Mr. Kain was asked to speak and the young marines marched in the historical flags. Thank you to: Rct. Heise, PVT Reyes Estella, PVT Reyes Elly, PFC Kain, PFC Vasconcellos, PFC Wilkinson and Sgt. Kain. Thank you again to the Marine Corp League and the Red Bluff Elks Lodge for the invite. *Don t forget to walk up and thank a vet for their service. They are the reason you live free. It only take a moment of your time and it means the world to them.
4 June 25 th Drill- We got make up PFTs finished and congrats to those who have improved. We practiced over and over for the Change of Command Ceremony on the 23 rd. We had to learn the color guard, posting of flag, folded flag hand off and Guidon Exchange Ceremony. With each one of these they had to learn where to start, where to move and their ques to move lol. We are all excited to show everyone how much hard work the kids have put into this event. I think Mr. Crane will be honored. We were able to hand out more certificates after updating Young Marines ribbons (see below). Congrats to all of you! Our Unit Chaplain led us in a prayer and we took an hour to have some fun outside. Oh and a DDR competition for donuts Pvt. Peterson PFC Wilkinson PVT Moyer PFC Vasconcellos Pvt. Crane Sgt. Crane Unit Commander s message: What exciting times we are headed towards. We were approached by both Private Henderson (Cobb) and PFC Sousa who asked to return to the unit. Very happy to have you Young Marines back! Additionally we handed out three applications this week and potentially have a new recruit coming to the next drill. We also have Recruit Williams and Heise, soon to be Privates, at recruit training with Golden Gate Young Marines. I am happy to report that several Young Marines have already asked for additional car wash tickets, Wow way to go. We are trying to plan for an Organized Unit Trip (Camp out) on a weekend in September if we do really well on the car wash sales. How about that unit prayer, long time coming. Thank you Chaplin PFC Kain! Way to go, all you guys are doing awesome. Please spread the word to friends and family; let s make our unit larger and stronger. UC Dave Kain Semper Fidelis *If you love this organization and want to do more to help out how about becoming a Registered Adult? It is very rewarding to work with youth and we are hoping to expand the events that we can offer the kids. With that, we need more Registered Adults to make this happen. You do not have to be current or former military. Just be willing to help out when you can. It is through these caring adults that our Young Marines learn the inner values of Leadership, Teamwork and Discipline. Young Marines Registered Adult Volunteers invest their time and effort to pass these values on to the youth in their respective communities before other destructive influences take root. Contact UC Kain at if you re interested or ask ADJ Kain at drill for an application
