10 Swimmer spotlight: a few questions for Ane Skartvedt In a lane of her own Ane Skartvedt, junior, a dare devil by the age of eight, was jumping in the deep end of the pool with no fear. That s when her mother decided she should take swim lessons. It was quickly obvious Skartvedt had serious swimming skills. Fortunately, she continued to work in the pool and now is a point getter for the girl s swim team. The Railsplitter sat down with Skartvedt to discuss the current season. Q: How s the swim team season looking? Ane Skartvedt: After the meet on Tuesday, it looks like it s going to be a pretty good year. Q: What s your coach and team like? Skartvedt: My team is crazy and fun. They re always fun to be around. My coach can be kind of a pain in the butt sometimes, but he always likes to joke around and make everyone laugh. Q: What s your favorite stroke and fastest time? Skartvedt: Freestyle, because it s the easiest, and my fastest time would be 26.1 in the 50 free. Q: What s dry land training like? Skartvedt: It s my least favorite workout of all, because I wake up the next morning so sore. Q: What s the weirdest or funniest thing that s happened to you while swimming? Skartvedt: When I did the 200 and I lost count in the meet so I just stopped and everyone was yelling at me, which felt really awkward. Q: Do you look up to anyone and if so who and why? Skartvedt: On the swim team, my best friend Jordan Greenwood. Even if she s in pain she ll still go out and do her best, I kind of get jealous sometimes. Ane Skartvedt Q: Is there anything about swimming that s hard to you and why? Skartvedt: All the shoulder problems you get, because right now my rotator cuff is strained so whenever I go in and do my thing it hurts. I just have to keep going through it, but that s the only hard part. Q: What do you do to keep yourself motivated? Or does anyone else motivate you and how? Skartvedt: I keep goals for myself, because I haven t made it to state yet and I would really like to do that. That s my goal for this year is to make it to state. Q: What s your favorite thing about being on the swim team? Skartvedt: Having everybody as like a family like were all like sisters. I mean we do have bickers like a lot because were with each other 24/7, but it s really nice to have like a family you know, and always having somebody to cheer you on. Q: What s 1-3 things any swimmer should know? Skartvedt: Hold your streamlines, don t breathe in and out of the wall, and don t jerk on the block because you will get disqualified. Before the hit the water: Abi Contreras, Valeria Santiago, Ana Skartvedt, Jordyn Dubois Top row: Nyla Lamp, Allison Kochheiser, Haley Allen, Jessica Warrell, Alexis Trucano
