1 Overview The Cool School of Performing Arts Cool School of Performing Arts The Cool School of Performing Arts was launched in the Summer of 2013 in the form of a performance workshop that took place in the month of July. The performance workshop offers an exciting program that focuses on stage presence and performance quality in the New Jersey/New York area. The young stars who experience The Cool School take daily classes in the summer to strengthen skills in several dance techniques, including contemporary and hip hop. During the course of the workshop, students will also experience a broad introduction to dance composition. This portion of the workshop is based on the idea of introducing and developing tools for future choreographers. Students will learn to generate and manipulate movement through exercises and improvisation, and will expand those skills into shaping dances. Areas to be explored include elements of movement, musical structures, narrative, partnering and site specific work, among other possibilities. These young performers get a rare opportunity to experience the thriving arts culture with master teachers and artists. It is our ultimate goal to enrich, enhance and challenge the artistic skills of our future stars. About the Artistic Director Zetta Cool is a graduate of Richard Stockton College of New Jersey, from which she received a B.A. in Dance with a concentration in Arts Administration. She is trained in Ballet, Modern, Hip Page 1 of 6

2 Hop and Jazz. She studied under Ronald K. Brown, Lisa Attles of Alvin Ailey, Sharron Miller of Sharron Miller s Academy for the Performing Arts, and at the Broadway Dance Center. Zetta is a certified public school dance teacher who has taught Hip Hop, Modern and Jazz at the Montclair YMCA, Bradford Elementary School, Watchung Elementary School and the East Orange Campus High School Dance Company. Ms. Cool is also certified to teach the Dancing to Connect methodology as she has completed course work under the world renown, Battery Dance Company of NYC. She is currently the Dance Department Head at Buzz Aldrin Middle School of Montclair, NJ. She has successfully shared her love of dance education, artistic expression, performance, and dance composition with hundreds of middle-school-aged boys and girls. The Buzz Aldrin dance program has grown to serve more than 400 students each academic year, who perform in two concerts each school year. Zetta is also the proud owner/artistic director of The Cool School of performing arts. Welcome Letter Welcome to The Cool School of Performing Arts! 3 Workshop Overview Master Schedule Photo Release form The Cool School of Performing Arts To ensure the enjoyment and safety of all young performers, Cool School reserves the right to dismiss young performers in the unlikely event there are discipline issues. Parents or guardians will be contacted by phone to arrange child pickup. No refund will be granted to those unable to complete the workshop. Also, to ensure safety, please talk with your child about the importance of wearing sunscreen on field trip days to avoid sunburn and drinking water to stay hydrated. Zetta Cool Artistic Director Please note the following: Drop Off/ Pick Up The Summer Performance Workshop begins at 1pm and ends at 4pm. All young performers are encouraged to arrive at 1pm dressed in clothing that does not restrict movement. If there is a need to drop off or pick up your child at an hour other than the designated time, call to make arrangements. Please note that if arrangements are not made there will be no adult present to wait with your young star. Dress Code: Please wear clothing that does not restrict movement. No clothing may be worn to obstruct the view of the body (i.e. baggy shirts/ pants). Hair is to be pulled up off the neck. If hair is too short, it must be pulled back w/ hair clips or headbands. Please note that a changing room is available. No dance shoes are required.
