2 From Vienna: The New Year s Celebration 2016 Friday, January 1, AM - 5:30PM Friday, January 6:30PM The Vienna Philharmonic under the baton of Mariss Jansons performs favorite Strauss Family waltzes at the opulent Musikverein accompanied by the Vienna City Ballet. Stage and screen legend Julie Andrews returns as host, touring the picturesque city. Friday, January 8PM Benedict Cumberbatch (The Imitation Game) and Martin Freeman (The Hobbit) return as Sherlock Holmes and Dr. Watson in the acclaimed modern retelling of Arthur Conan Doyle's classic stories. But now our heroes find themselves in 1890s London. Beloved characters Mary Morstan (played by Amanda Abbington), Inspector Lestrade (Rupert Graves) and Mrs. Hudson (Una Stubbs) also turn up at 221b Baker Street. Sherlock: The Abominable Bride is a 90-minute Sherlock Special. Countdown to Downton Abbey Sunday, January 7PM Join Broadway s Kelli O Hara to count down the moments to the final season with interviews and clips. 8PM Starting January 3 The top-rated PBS drama of all time approaches its climactic chapter as Downton Abbey enters its sixth and final season on Masterpiece, bringing exciting closure to a remarkable series. Where will fate, passion, ambition, and duty lead television s most beloved characters? Downton Abbey: A Celebration Sunday, January 9:15PM Continue the excitement as the final season begins and savor favorite moments from past episodes. Jan. 26 Tragedy + Time = Comedy Uncover a history of tragedies and triumphs in the families of three of funniest men. 7PM Join Harvard scholar Henry Louis Gates, Jr., as he delves into the genealogy of 27 new guests. 9PM Starting January 17 STATE OF THE UNION Tuesday, January 8PM President Barack Obama will deliver his seventh and final State of the Union address to a joint session of Congress. Based on real events, MERCY STREET takes viewers beyond the battlefield and into the lives of diverse cast of characters doctors, nurses, contraband laborers and Southern loyalists who intersect in the chaotic world of Union-occupied Alexandria, Virginia, and the Mansion House Hospital in the early years of the Civil War. BLOOD ISN'T BLUE OR GRAY WILLIE NELSON: THE LIBRARY OF CONGRESS GERSHWIN PRIZE FOR POPULAR SONG Friday, January 8PM Rosanne Cash, Edie Brickell, Paul Simon, Alison Krauss, Raul Malo, Neil Young and more pay tribute to singer and songwriter Willie Nelson, the 2015 recipient of the Library of Congress Gershwin Prize for Popular Song. Nelson s lyrics give voice to heartland and his music pushes genre boundaries. BONNIE & CLYDE Tuesday, January 8PM Discover the true story of the most famous outlaw couple in US history. Though their exploits were romanticized, the Barrow gang was believed responsible for at least 13 murders, including two policemen, as well as robberies and kidnappings. MINE WARS Tuesday, January 8PM Go inside the bitter battle to unionize coal miners at the dawn of the 20th century. The struggle over the power that fueled America led to the largest armed insurrection since the Civil War, and turned parts of West Virginia into a bloody war zone.
