With RDS Parent Access, you can use your smart phone to check your child s attendance or homework grades while you wait in line at the store, or travel to see relatives. You can even teachers! October 29th, the last day of the Evansville City Speech Tournament, proved to be a winning day for the Perry Heights Speech Team. Total scores of all nine team members combined pushed Perry Heights to a fourth place position, earning the team a cherished trophy for the season. This year s Perry Heights speech team members are: Trey Schellenberg, Kennedy Page, Mason Reed, Akshaj Mishra, Grant Weis, Joshua Diekmann, Makayla Coomer, Piper Weythman and Abby Elliott. The students not shown in the photo above, Makayla, Kennedy, Mason, Grant and Joshua, participated in the first day of the tournament. Good Job Speech Team! PBIS - What is PBIS? Perry Heights Middle School has implemented PBIS or Positive Behavior Interventions and Supports. It is a system of teaching and acknowledging our students for the positive behavior. Research show PBIS allows students to succeed by preventing behavior problems and creating a positive, safe, fun school. The Panther Pride Choir will present a concert of holiday music on December 17 at 7:00 pm in the auditorium. Let the Perry Heights choirs help get you in the holiday spirit with a mix of new and favorite songs of the season. Everyone is welcome and there is no admission charge. VETERAN S DAY PHMS invited students families & friends who are Veterans to a reception before our Veteran s Day Program in November. Many attended & students visited with the Veterans before they were recognized at the program. Thank you to all who were able to attend.

The TOP SELLER and winner of the Mini IPad was Jonathon Buck. The $50 Money Day prize winner was Caleb Mitz. We did not have a Mystery Winner, but all of the students who sold at least five items and turned in their money will have a blast on the Rolling Video Games Van scheduled for December 21. Thanks again for all your support for the PTSA fundraisers and CONGRATULATIONS to our Winners! Stephanie Oberholtzer 1st Vice President in Charge of Fundraisers SCHOLASTIC BOOK FAIR Thank you SO much for making the fall book fair a success! We have never done this well at the book fair in the past. Last year both the fall and spring book fairs sold around $2100 worth of books at each fair. This year we sold almost $3200 just at the fall fair. We will get 55% of that amount in FREE BOOKS for the library. I m hoping our Spring Fair will have the same success! Megan Danks, Perry Heights Media Center Aide PHMS SPELLING BEE Akshaj Mishra is the Perry Heights Spelling Bee Champion. Our runner-up is Rahul Menon. Akshaj will represent Perry Heights in the Tri-State Spelling Bee. Congratulations to both young men and good luck to Akshaj! PAW S DINER The cafeteria has lunch IOU s they would settled before our Christmas break. Students should bring home a note that shows how much they owe. If you think your child owes money for lunches, please call the office at and speak to Mrs. Frankenberger. Thanks for your cooperation! Make checks payable to Perry Heights Middle School Student Name Grade Homeroom Parent Name Phone Amount Paid $ Cash Date Check Check # MY EXPERIENCE AT LAND BETWEEN THE LAKES (6th Grade Field Trip in November) My experience at LBL was a thrill ride and made me want to go back this summer. Let me tell you what happened. But you need to know Mr. Scholz was our dorm leader. We gathered on the bus and got to sit with one friend. My best friend, Zeke, and I sat together until we got to Woodlands Nature Station. When we got there, we ate our lunch. My group went on a nature hike first. Then we went into the Nature Station. First we visited a barred owl. A lady who, or should I say hoo, talked about it for about five minutes. After looking at some other animals, we met a lady who talked about the opossum. Then we met a guy who showed us a snake. It was pretty funny because the snake kept trying to turn on what looked like a walkie-talkie. Then we headed towards Brandon Spring Group Camp on our bus. At Brandon Springs we picked up our luggage and went inside our dorms to unpack and get our bed ready. Mr. Scholz then gave us a little speech on what we could not do. That night we had chicken with mashed potatoes and fruit. We spent some time eating and talking with our friends. After dinner we hung out with friends and had fun. Then we had a tug of war competition. My dorm lost but it was still pretty fun. We then went to the campfire where we sang campfire songs and danced. We split into groups. One went on a night hike and my group stayed at the campfire eating s mores. During that time I tripped and sprained my ankle right before it was time to switch to the night hike. Once we got close to the woods, Zeke and another friend, Adam, propped me up on their shoulders and we began our journey. Zeke was our lookout for roots (since he could see in the dark better than we could) and Adam was the guide. The next morning we had bacon, eggs, and biscuits. We packed up and got ready for the activities we chose. My first activity was Outdoor Survival. We learned how to build a small hut with a tree, branches, and leaves. My second activity was friendship bracelet making so I could rest my ankle. Some of my friends were there so it was pretty fun. On the way home we stopped at a farm called the Home Place where we learned how they lived around the 1800s. We ate a snack and finally made it back to school. Alas, our adventure was over.
