YEAR ALL GONE Last week we bid a fond farewell to our Year 11s. The hectic week kicked off with a Leavers Assembly.

NEWS LETTER The girls looked beautiful and the boys were dashing. The evening began with dinner and then the real fun started afterwards!

You have made a wonderful contribution to the school community and been role models for younger students.

1 YEAR ALL GONE Last week we bid a fond farewell to our Year 11s. The hectic week kicked off with a Leavers Assembly. but the real climax of the week was the leavers Summer Ball. It was a beautiful summer evening in the perfect setting at the Tregenna Castle St Ives. NEWS LETTER The girls looked beautiful and the boys were dashing. The evening began with dinner and then the real fun started afterwards! My very best wishes to all Year 11 who now progress into new ventures and great opportunities. You have made a wonderful contribution to the school community and been role models for younger students. The summer ball was one of the highlights of the year, and it really showed how you have matured from school students to adults. Thank you for all you have contributed to the academy. Enjoy your summer, and remember; if you want to aspire to great heights, you have to believe in yourself. The staff at Hayle Academy believe in you and you deserve to succeed. SPORT FAMILY TRIES We caught up with Emily to find out more about her recent award and how she started out in women s rugby.

Her great grandfather played for the Wasps and her grandad (who got her started), played in the Welsh National Team.

Emily most enjoys the fun of playing as a real team, she feels that compared to other sports; the relationships are a lot closer long after the game is finished.

7 SPORT FAMILY TRIES We caught up with Emily to find out more about her recent award and how she started out in women s rugby. Emily, Year 7 has been awarded a huge trophy by the Under 15 Camborne RFC for outstanding work both on and off the pitch. But the game of rugby is no stranger to her family. Her great grandfather played for the Wasps and her grandad (who got her started), played in the Welsh National Team. Her dad has also played plenty of rugby in his time and is one of her biggest supporters at her matches. Emily most enjoys the fun of playing as a real team, she feels that compared to other sports; the relationships are a lot closer long after the game is finished. As no contact is allowed until 11 years old, she started her rugby journey playing Tag from the age of five. Asked about her rugby plans for the future, she d love to play in a college team, Under 18s and then hopefully, move to professional women s rugby. Her advice for rookies is to find a good team that will help you, and for the younger players, to start with Tag then move on up, getting used to contact. She says, Once you re at the contact stage, don t be afraid, just get stuck in, then you ll thrive, but most important of all, just enjoy the game! Well if Emily carries on the rugby family tradition, the skies the limit, as it definitely runs in those genes. BEACH CRICKET TOURNAMENT Year 9 and 10 students participated in the Under 15 Girl s Beach Cricket Tournament at Perranporth. It was a great event set up between the locals and tourists visiting the beach with 7 wickets stretching down the beach. The girls had 3 matches in their pool, achieving a win and losing 2 very close games, before being re-seeded into the final pool games. The girls played exceptionally well and gained 2 wins and a draw, to finish in 10th place out of the 20 teams. CONGRATS David took part in the 5K Inflatable fun run in Exeter. He completed the course in one hour 20 min. Very well done!

8 W/E 6TH JULY 2018 HAYLEACADEMY NEWSLETTER SPORTS DAY Last week, 116 pupils from our primary partner schools attended Year 5 sports day at Hayle Academy. The weather played ball and a glorious day was had by all. Pupils participated in a number of events ranging from team activities, through to individual sports such as sprinting, long jump and throwing events. One of the highlights was the inflatable jungle run where pupils had to work together as a team to get through the assault course as fast as they could. Pupils were mixed into teams of 10, all the countries from the football world cup. Overall, Germany came 3rd, Brazil 2nd and 1st place going to England. Certificates and thanks were given by Mr. Martin, Headteacher.

SCHOOL TRIP YEAR 10 Cornwall College Summer Exhibition Both of the Year 10 art GCSE groups spent two hours looking around the college s end of year exhibition.

The concert will feature ensembles and soloists from Hayle Academy. The concert will last approximately an hour and a half. Tickets will be available in school, for 1.00 and 50p. All proceeds will be used to support the musical ensembles in Hayle.

Students from local schools first met at Hayle Academy on Tuesday 19th to rehearse a selection of songs, which they then performed together.

The public performance took place in the evening and was very well received, with many members of the audience asking when the next concert would be.

Many thanks to Hayle Rotary for organising the event and Christine Judge for coordinating through - Music Education Hub.

The evening will be an opportunity to celebrate our students sporting success and progress throughout the year as well as on the night performances

10 W/E 6TH JULY 2018 HAYLEACADEMY NEWSLETTER PITCH PERFECT Hayle Academy singers joined students from local primary schools for an evening of song at Camborne Methodist Chapel. The evening was organised by The Hayle Rotary Club and delivered by local teachers and the Cornwall Music Education Hub. Students from local schools first met at Hayle Academy on Tuesday 19th to rehearse a selection of songs, which they then performed together. Each school was then asked to perform a song of their own choosing. Students from Hayle chose the David Bowie classic Space Oddity. The public performance took place in the evening and was very well received, with many members of the audience asking when the next concert would be. All proceeds from the evening will be divided between the participating schools. Many thanks to Hayle Rotary for organising the event and Christine Judge for coordinating through - Music Education Hub. DIARY DATES SPORTS EVENING Thursday 5th July - 7pm The PE department, would like to invite you to our Sports Award Evening. The evening will be an opportunity to celebrate our students sporting success and progress throughout the year as well as on the night performances from our school choir and Hayle Xtra dance club. CAR BOOT SALE Saturday 7th July 10-1pm Hayle Academy PTA Spring/Summer Car boot sale Sat 7th July from 10-1pm for Buyers. Sellers are welcome from 9am till finished. We ll have toilets and tea/coffee available on site. Our next two events will be Sept 8th and Oct 6th same timings We look forward to seeing you. SUMMER FETE Monday 23rd July Join us for Hayle Academy s first Fete in ages. The students have really got involved, producing 90% of the featured games by themselves. We have also invited some of the local community art and crafters to attend and sell their wares too.
