2 It s getting closer to the end of the year and all of us start to sit back and reflect on the past year. This month, we celebrate Thanksgiving and enjoy ourselves with family, food and memories as we give thanks. At MTCO, we actually never get to sit back and reflect as the team here keeps striving to make the services we provide for you and your family better. We always like to give thanks to our customers who have supported us over the years since we first started in It s been a family affair since then, and we are glad that we have been here over the years to help you communicate and entertain with family and friends. Taking time to look back at the past year, MTCO hit a few new milestones and for that we are thankful! This magazine you are reading reached its five-year anniversary in June. We have shared this publication with the communities that we serve to help make readers aware of the local events happening in these areas. A lot of the information found Happy Thanksgiving in Connected Magazine comes from you, our readers, and we can t thank you enough for your contribution. After five years of printing this, we are thankful that you have found it resourceful. In our Metamora and Germantown Hills communities, we have celebrated another year in business. This past year marks our 72nd year providing services in this area. Our Marseilles community celebrates the 30th year of MTCO providing communications and services. It s been our pleasure to be part of Marseilles and contribute to the area with our services and people. Our Washington community has been with us since 1996 when we first started offering internet services in the area. On October 24, 2013, MTCO installed the first TV service. Happy Thanksgiving to the communities of Metamora, Germantown Hills, Marseilles and Washington! On The Cover The 2016 Community Prayer Breakfast was held at Metamora Fields on October 5th. The breakfast featured majestic music by The Kramer Family and the MTHS Madrigal Singers. The Keynote Speaker, 18th District U.S. Representative Darin LaHood, geared his talk to how faith guides him in all his decisions with his family and his service. Mr. LaHood presented a Congressional Letter for the Citizen s Lifesaving Award to Joshua Dixon of Germantown Hills for his heroic efforts in saving the life of Germantown Hills resident Seth DeLuca. Joshua used his swimming experience to recover Seth from the bottom of White Oak Lake for emergency teams to rush in to administer CPR. After nearly four months, Seth now enjoys near complete recovery! At this event, service was also the reason the 2016 Germantown Hills Chamber of Commerce (GHCC) Servant Leadership Award was given to Greg Harman. Greg, our Germantown Hills State Farm agent, has done many great things for the community for over 17 years, many of which he has kept anonymous. The Metamora Area Business Association (MABA) presented Jim Dansart, Principal at St. Mary s Grade School in Metamora, with their Distinguished Service Award. The Metamora and Germantown Hills communities have been fortunate to have Jim as a humble and inspirational role model for generations of children for over 35 years. It s Just A Phase Here s how a full moon works: The moon is a sphere that travels once around Earth every 27.3 days. It also takes about 27 days for the moon to rotate on its axis. So, the moon always shows us the same face; there is no single dark side of the moon. As the moon revolves around Earth, it is illuminated from varying angles by the sun what we see when we look at the moon is reflected sunlight. On average, the moon rises about 50 minutes later each day, which means sometimes it rises during daylight and other times during night time hours.
