6 OCTOBER 2015 Newsletter ILLNESS REPORT: Please report any member illness or distress to Jr. Regent Laurie Chaidez or to Prelate Randy Wachenfeld. Marilyn Nesmith was hospitalized with a bad infection at the end of August. Please join us in sending our condolences to: The family of David Corona who passed away unexpectedly in September. We will miss him. Please keep these members and their families in your thoughts and prayers. BLOOD BANK MESSAGE: By: Jim Smith Thank you to all members who have donated to the most wonderful lifesaving account - the Moose Blood Bank account. Just one pint of blood can save a life - it could be you or one of your loved ones. Remember, any child can donate at the age of 16 if they weigh at least 100 lbs. and the parent or guardian gives consent. FYI, the current price for a pint of blood is approximately $2,000! If you are ever in need of blood, just give our donor number to your physician and you will not be billed. The South Sac 255 account number is 3822 and the District 4 account number is DIABETES IS NOT YOUR FAULT: By: Joe Hernandez, Treasurer Hormones called gluccagon tells the liver to release sttored sugar if your bloo sugar gets too low or if you have not eaten for many hours such as overnnight. In people with Diabetes: The beta cellls may sttop working. Many persons with type 2 Diabettes have already lost half of their beta cell function by the time their Diabetes is diagnosed. As the number of beta cells goes down the pancreas akes less and less insulin. This happens suddenly for people with Type 1 Diabetes. It happens over timme for people with Type 2 Diabetes. In people without Diabetes, beta cells in the pancreas make and release insulin to keep blood sugar levels normal. In people witth Diabetes the beta cells in the pancreas may stop working and may make too little insulin. Or, they make enough insulin but the body doesn't use it properly.. That prevents it from working to lower blood sugar. SOUTH SACRAMENTO 255 MOOSE LEGION: By: Jim Smith, Assistant Secretary The Moose Legion meetings are on the 2nd Monday of the month at 6:00 p.m. Don't forget - The first Sunday of every month is the Moose Legion Breakfast from 9-11 a.m. Check the bulletin board in the hallway for further updates regarding the Mighty 190 Moose Legion. If you have any problems, feel free to contact me at , day or night - I will be happy to help. Where do vampires keep their money? The blood bank!!!

8 OCTOBER 2015 Newsletter SENIOR REGENTS MESSAGE: By: Joyce Finnegan Hi All! I'm back from Convention and so excited! This was my first convention, but it will not be my last. I learned so much and had so much fun! I am looking forward to sharing all these things with both our Chapter and Lodge. We have 2 main events coming up soon. We will need your help to make both of these events successful. I'm sure I can count on you. Tickets for both events are available in the Social Quarters. Our first event is October 3rd and is "CHRISTMAS IN OCTOBER" dinner. This is an annual event which focuses on our two main charities; MOOSEHEART for the children and MOOSEHAVEN for the seniors. This is the event to invite prospective new members to as it showcases what belonging to the Moose is all about. Cost per person is only $9.00 each and you will be treated to a delicious holiday meal consisting of turkey, sweet potatoes, mashed potatoes, green bean casserole, cranberry relish and pumpkin pie. A great deal! Additionally, we will have Moose on the Loose to provide entertainment, a 50/50 raffle, and raffle prizes! Anyone wishing to assist in preparation of the meal, donating food items or donating raffle prizes for the event, please call me directly at or contact any of our board members. This dinner will be presented by Casey Salva, Teri Winstead, and myself. We look forward to seeing you there. RECORDERS MESSAGE: By: Mellisa Mitchell As a friendly reminder the WOTM dues increased by $5.00 annually effective September 1, New member dues and fees will now be $50.00 (instead of $45.00) and regular member dues will be $30.00 (instead of $25.00). So please remember to include the $5.00 increase when you sponsor a new member or pay your existing member dues going forward. I look forward to positive changes and striving for increasing our Membership in our Chapter. If you sponsor a new member this year your name will be added to the sponsor posters located next to the back hall door and the poster between the two administrative offices next to the pool table. At the end of the year, we will be awarding the Top Sponsor for the WOTM and the Top Sponsor for the LOOM with a personal gift. I will be updating the sponsor posters after enrollment is verified. Together we can make things happen. Our second event is October 24th and is a CATFISH & SHRIMP DINNER at a mere cost of $8.00 per person. The meal will consist of catfish, butterflied large shrimp, coleslaw, french fries and dessert. We will also have a 50/50 drawing, raffle prizes and Moose on the Loose. Again, anyone wishing to donate items, please give me a call or contact any of the board members. This delicious meal will be prepared by the "Fish Guy" Dennis O', Marcia Finley and myself. We look forward to seeing you ALL. Come and have fun!
