4 May is here! The trees, shrubs, flowers, grasses, and activities are on schedule. Neal will be cutting the grass and it will be cut in time for flag raising weekend activities. The gardens are looking great, as we have an outstanding Landscape Team this year! Thanks for all your creativity and especially those green thumbs! Looking forward to seeing you at The Flag Raising Ceremony, May 6th. This is a day when all the gardens and grounds are on display, so it s a proud day for our Landscape Committee as you feel the delight of an enjoyable place to be with the past commodores and the 2018 officers as they raise their respective flags. Thanks for touching your gardens at Seaford Yacht Club as they give a welcoming and pleasurable environment. THANK YOU LEGENDARY LANDSCAPERS Seaford Yacht club gardens show growth, beauty, and are to be enjoyed by all SYC members and guests. Many, thanks for the continuous care given by our Landscapers: Janet, Carol, Julie, Marti, Lillian, Joan, Dave, Mark, Nancy, Tina, Penny, Ginger, Doris, Jeanette and Kelly. Also, many thanks for extra help during Clean-Up Day from Jake, Dave, Mike, Bill, John, Krunoslav and Greg C. Keep watching as the Landscape changes throughout the year! Barbara Georgianna, Landscaping Chair Ahoy SYC Women! Linda Blotter, Susan Pettyjohn and Jandy Strickland are again planning to hold a women s sailing day. Last year s event was a great success even though the wind and tide did not cooperate. This year we are intent on getting out, putting up sails, and enjoying sailing and our time with each other. Even if you are not a sailor and don t plan to sail, it still can be educational and fun so all women are invited. The dates we are holding are Saturday May 19, Saturday June 2 and Saturday, June 23. We most likely will meet mid-morning, have a little instruction at the docks, and then get underway. When we return to the docks, we will have some debriefing and libation! We will be through by late afternoon. Please respond to any or all of us if you have an interest and what dates would work best for you. We will plan to hold the event on the date most women can attend. Linda Blotter todrvr@cox.net Susan Pettyjohn susanp1079@gmail.com Jandy Strickland jandy.randy@cox.net

5 Dinner Meeting News; The April Dinner meeting was hosted by Al & Audrey Moore and Dan & Doris Smoker. Delicious spring dinners of grilled pork tenderloins, roasted new red potatoes, roasted asparagus and spinach salads topped with strawberries were prepared and served by the hosts with the assistance of a great team of helpers. A delicious dessert of cookies and ice cream with chocolate syrup topped off the meal. Containers of pansies decorated the tables and were taken home by lucky diners. Many thanks go to the helpers who volunteered to help and made this a memorable dinner. They were: Dot & Don Harcum; Carol & Mike Brower; Liz and Tom Tragle; Liz Epperson; Ginger & Jake Smith; Sandy & Phil Hopkins; Steve Riley; Jerry Dooley; Nancy Kane; Cheryl & Ben Huggin; and Marti Coffield. Also special thank yous go to Mark Hinman and Tom Feldhaus our Beermeisters, and to Donna Gilroy for taking care of reservations and collecting money for the dinner. Janet and Bob Beilhart will be hosting the May dinner meeting on May 15th. The menu will be appetizers, grilled chicken, pasta salad, bread, and assorted desserts. Please make your reservations when your calling committee member contacts you. Bon Appetit Audrey Moore & Marti Coffield Monthly Dinner Co-Chairs SYC HISTORY QUIZ The answers to the April History Quiz are: The original Club burgee was produced by Ginger and Jake Smith. The bathhouse was constructed in And the April winner was Susan Pettyjohn. Although the author of the Club history was told that Jake and Ginger produced the original burgee, Ginger believes that Cliff Collier designed the burgee and then she and Jake framed it. The Club history document will be revised to reflect that information. The questions for the May Quiz are: Who was the first female SYC Commodore? What year did the Club first acquire real estate? Be careful!! Write your name and answers on a piece of paper approximately 3 X 3 inches, place in the box at the May dinner meeting, and the first name drawn with both correct answers will receive a free dinner at a monthly dinner meeting. Hint: The members area at the SYC website.
