2 OAK SCHOOL HILLS DISTRICT Dear Athletes and Parents, Thank you for your interest in the Oak Hills High School Cheerleading program. OHHS Cheerleading has an outstanding reputation and our goal as coaches is to meet and exceed the expectations of the Oak Hills community. Being an OHHS Cheerleader is a huge responsibility and requires ongoing effort and commitment from each team member. Any candidate trying out for the OHHS Cheerleading program should be able to put forth the effort and commitment it takes not only for their cheerleading responsibilities, but academically as well. All team members are expected to maintain a 2.0 GPA in order to be eligible for cheerleading. This is strictly enforced. Please be aware that because of the involved schedule for OHHS Cheerleading, there are other sports/activities that conflict too much with our schedule for any athletes to realistically be involved in both. Please contact Coach Jerel prior to tryouts to discuss possible schedule conflicts. If you have any other questions, please contact Coach Jerel as soon as possible. 3 Tryouts A standing back handspring is required of all females in order to tryout unless you are a returning member. You will be judged on tumbling, stunting, appearance, and your effectiveness to lead a crowd. Just because you are a returning member does not mean you are guaranteed a spot. Males are not required to have tumbling at tryouts although you may showcase tumbling if you have it. (PLEASE BE SAFE!) ALL attached forms MUST be turned in on the first day of clinics. These forms are required to tryout and you will NOT be eligible to tryout without these forms. NO EXCEPTIONS! All candidates trying out are asked to leave immediately following their tryout. Squad lists will be posted MONDAY, May 5 at 3pm on the Athletic Office doors. Incoming Freshmen will be contacted. Appearance Clinic: Any athletic clothing is permitted. Oak Hills apparel is recommended. Remember, you will be judged on appearance so consider clothing that is appropriate. You should treat this clinic as if it were your actual tryout. This means hair should be clean and out of face in a bow. NO JEWLERY! Cheer shoes are recommended. Do not wear just your sports bra. Please wear a t- shirt. For Tryouts: Females: Plain black shorts, red t- shirt, and plain white or red bow. Hair should be in a high pony and completely out of face, full make up and red lipstick is required. You should be GAME DAY READY! No Jewelry or piercings whatsoever. You will be checked. If you come in anything else other than what was stated previously, you will be turned away, NO EXCEPTIONS. Males: Plain black shorts and red t- shirt. Your face should be clean- shaven and hair neatly trimmed. No jewelry will be permitted. Parent/Athlete Meeting There is a mandatory parent/cheerleader meeting in May in the OHHS Commons for all squad members. A date is still TBD. We will discuss the OHHS Cheerleading handbook, team goals/expectations, financial responsibility, etc. The $ Season Athletic Fee will be due at the meeting. (Football/Basketball) Please make checks payable to the Oak Hills Athletic Department. Payment deadlines will be STRICTLY enforced. If a cheerleader has not made the correct payments at this meeting, they will not be permitted to participate in conditioning or practice UNTIL PAYMENT IS RECEIVED. This will be enforced for the entire season, and includes any payments made during basketball season as well. If you have any issues with making payments, please contact

4 Coach Jerel. Squad Structure Our selection process for squads is skills based. Although we train as one, our program is broken up into three squads, Freshmen, JV, and Varsity. Freshmen have the opportunity to be selected for all squads. Upper classmen are eligible for all squads except for Freshmen. All squads cheer for the football and basketball seasons. Overall Financial Obligation There are extra costs involved in order to participate. This does not include the mandatory $ athletic fee that is required by the athletic department. You will be responsible for things such as the cost of camp, practice apparel, cheer shoes, bows, team dinners, competition, etc. Please understand that there may be additional costs throughout the season for t- shirts, team parties, etc. but as coaches we try and keep this at a minimum. Again, if you have issues with these payments, please contact Coach Jerel prior to tryouts to discuss payment options. Competition The competition team will be selected later in the season. Although everyone has the chance of trying out for the competition team, selection will be skills based and will be dependent on what is needed for the structure of the team to be most successful. Competition will require some extra cost including competition fees, clothing, and travel expenses. *The coaching staff is constantly working to keep costs low while providing the athlete with the safest and best quality of instruction while ensuring a successful cheerleading experience.

I also understand that a picture is required of all athletes trying out and will be taken by the coaching staff at the clinic and will only be used for tryout purposes.
