2 Dear Cheerleading Candidates and Parents/Guardians, Thank you for your interest in trying out for the JPII Catholic High School Cheerleading Squads. I appreciate your enthusiasm and interest in the program. This can be a truly rewarding experience, but it also requires a tremendous time commitment. A squad member must be willing to practice on his/her own time to perfect skills. Additionally, a squad member must be able to work well with others; as cheerleading is a team sport! Please be aware of this as you prepare to take on the challenges and responsibilities of becoming a member for one of the JP II Cheerleading Squads. I will have two separate squads, JV and Varsity, this year. Both squads will cheer for football, but will be split up for the basketball season. Included in this packet, you will find information that will help guide you in the tryout process. If you have further questions though, please do not hesitate to contact Coach Rachel DiCarlo. 4 Tryout Information Program Membership: The cheer membership consists of the following people: 2 teams: Junior Varsity and Varsity Junior Varsity members may be freshman, sophomore, or junior girls/boys. Varsity members may be freshman, sophomore, junior, or senior girls/boys. The coach reserves the right to move cheerleaders from JV to Varsity and from Varsity to JV. Seniors will not be moved to JV at any time. Before Tryouts: Candidates and parents are responsible for completing, signing, and returning all forms required. These forms must be completed and turned in by the first day of the tryout process. A physical must be turned in prior to the tryout process. Any student who does not have a physical file with the trainer or has one that is expired must have a new one turned in to the cheer coach by the beginning of the first day of the tryout process. (Students who cheered last year do not have to turn in a physical) During Tryouts: Clothing for clinic sessions: shorts, t-shirts, and cheer shoes (tennis shoes, if you do not own cheer shoes): NO JEWELRY During the tryout process, the following are evaluated: cheer/chant, dance (8-8 counts), jumps, tumbling (running and standing), and stunting. During the evaluation portion of the tryout, only the tryout uniform may be worn: NO JEWELRY o Plain white t-shirt o Plain black shorts o Hair in ponytail, out of face. For girls that have short hair, wear hair ½ up. o White cheerleading shoes or tennis shoes, if you do not own cheer shoes o No logos of any kind may be visible on clothing. A 5-point deduction per logo will be taken from your overall score. Cheerleaders will be judged by outside judges chosen by the coach. After tryouts: After tryouts coaches will rank candidates based on the points they earned from the judges. The results of the tryouts will be posted on the JP II school doors after the last day of tryouts.
