2 in response to: Shane Williford Agree!!! Pardon my ignorance but no idea who they are so I did some youtube-ing for curiosity and definitely not my style. Deh...different generation :-). And I have a feeling most of the atendees are 35+ so wrong target. So maybe I'll stay for 1h, get my dinner, few beers then I will join the "enjoy free Wednesday evening walking on the strip :-)" crowd. 3 in response to: Steven Kroesen Unfortunately choosing the band for VMWorld seems to be a no win situation. There was plenty of people complaining about Foreigner in '09 and INXS last year. In my opinion both bands put on a pretty good show all things considered. What is the right demographic for a conference like VMWorld? This is 15,000+ people that are linked by their usage of technology, not for their love of some specific genre of music. Can you pick a band that speaks to everyone in just your own IT department? I can't. Personally I just really like live music. Party night is the bonus to what is already an incredibly good conference. This year you will find me in the exact same place you would have found me in '09 and Right up front next to the stage having a really, really good time. I'm really looking forward to seeing The Killers this year. Nice work, VMWare. Kudos I personally have many different genre's of music in my library and my taste changes frequently so while the Killers are not on the top of my current list I have heard and do enjoy their music. In a live concert setting it's hard to pick a bad band unless they show up disinterested and have no energy. Last year INXS was really fired up and put on a good show! Could it have been a more well known band or artist, sure, but The Killers are far from a bad choice. I am very much looking forward to this show. I never heard of them before, and wanted to give them a shot so searched on YouTube for a few songs. Not impressed. Certainly a genre for the 'younger' crowd (not solely, but mostly). I personally wouldn't do a "salute" to VMware, but like you say, can't please everyone. Oh well. We can agree on something though...bring ON THE BEERS! It at least gave attendees something to talk about when they got home. Lord knows they weren't going to be falling all over themselves about ProCurve and 3Par. VMWare is like a guy driving a Geo Metro.. They obviously have no need to compensate for anything. 7 Oh well, if VMware will follow the pattern, Foreigner (80s), INXS (90s), Killers (2000s) next year will get Justin Bieber :-)...I will bring my daughter and give her the access pass to the party :-) On a more serious note, in the end a party is a party if there is free beer, food and music...let enjoy it...and there are always zillion of options outside if we don't like it...it's Vegas baby :-)!!!! I also like older bands, like Foreigner, Chicago, etc. it all comes down to a matter of taste. I like most types of music. 8 Who did EMC World have this year? I'm in the 35+ crowd and never heard of the Killers till now. I'm very much into listening to guitar-heavy music such as blues/rock (among other genres). I really enjoyed Foreigner, INXS and Smash Mouth (they were best by far). Sorry, Tainted Love was boring. Maybe the crowd will be younger this year while all the old dudes go out and drink? In 2008, the party was at Las Vegas Motor Speedway. They had some extra fun stuff tossed in, like a ride in a new Mustang around the track, go-cart rides, stuff like that. However, the two years I have been to the party there has been a wide variation of activities including watching skateboarders do tricks, spinning with professional DJs which included getting your own CD, riding a mechanical bull, playing laser tag, drinking beer and oh yeah drinking beer. All I can say is that the past two years have been a ton of fun and I have met some great people. I am also bringing my wife and will be paying the $275. Oh, and new this year, your wife will also get in to the Solution Center on Monday night... double the swag! If both of you are party guys, beer, food, socializing then although is a steep price it might worth it :-). My wife is more into Cirque de Soleil/Celine Dion/"big NO" to loud music/etc stuff so definitley I won't pay for her :-) As mrehere said check the spousetivities. As others have said it really depends on your spouse.. In previous years there has been food and beer. There are additional activities ranging from active stuff like mechanical bull riding and running around in hamster balls to more laid back stuff like watching break dancers or playing video games. 10

11 The thing to keep in mind is if you go to the concert then you miss most of the party as the party ends as soon as the concert does. It is a wee-bit short. I'd honestly really have to think about spending that $275. It is a really fun night, but I imagine I could have more fun with $275 to blow. This year I considered spotting the money for her to come, even before knowing the band, and ultimately decided not to. We decided that we'd actually fly her into Vegas that night instead. That way she isn't trolling The Strip during the first 3 days of the event while I'm in sessions and labs all day. Her plane lands late in the evening and we are planning on her taking a taxi to wherever the VMWorld Party is at and I'll leave the party to go hang out with her nearby. That way I still get to attend the party. Once the band was announced, after we made this decision and booked the flights for her, her response on the band was "meh" and all is good. I have been attending VMworld since 2007 when they had Smashmouth. That was my least favorite group they've had. Foreinger did great, and INXS was awesome. Looking forward to the Killers.
