ROY JUNIOR HIGH SCHOOL CHEERLEADER CONSTITUTION Preamble Tradition at Roy Junior High School dictates a high quality of leadership and expectations in every event that takes place. We, the cheerleaders of Roy Junior High School, dedicate ourselves and our services to promote a high level of enthusiasm and school spirit in all school activities and be a good example of Razorback pride at all times. ARTLICLE I Selection During the final semester of each school year, a minimum of eight (8) students will be selected from the eighth grade as cheerleaders for the following year. All candidates must meet eligibility requirements as outlined in Article II of this Constitution. Selection of cheerleaders will be based on a point method used by a panel of impartial judges. Candidates will be rated on jumps, timing, arm motion, splits, tumbling, dance, drill, smile, voice control, balance, rhythm, general execution of prepared cheers, overall presentation, etc. Candidates receiving the highest point totals will be selected. Cheerleader selection will be held separate from other school elections.
ARTICLE II -- Eligibility Each cheerleader candidate must be a full-time, registered, eighth grade student at Roy Junior High School. Beginning at the time of selection, each cheerleader must continue to be a full-time, registered student at Roy Junior High School throughout his/her tenure on the squad. Candidates must have written permission from parent/guardian stating permission to try-out. Parent/guardian must also agree to support this Constitution. Each cheerleader candidate must have and have maintained a GPA of 3.0 ( B ) for each of the three quarters prior to tryouts. Each cheerleader candidate must have good citizenship grades. A cheerleader candidate who has accumulated a total of more than two (2) N s or more than one (1) U during the three quarters prior to tryouts will be ineligible. Each cheerleader must maintain an academic GPA of at least 3.0 ( B ), with no grade lower than a C-, at the end of each quarter throughout his/her tenure as a member of the cheerleading squad, beginning with the quarter of selection. Failure to maintain this standard will result in the cheerleader being placed on Academic Suspension for the following academic quarter. Section 6: Cheerleaders will only be allowed one Academic Suspension. Failure to maintain academic eligibility a second time will result in permanent removal from the squad.
Section 7: Each cheerleader is responsible to maintain good citizenship grades. A cheerleader who receives one or more U s or accumulates two or more N s anytime during his/her tenure as a cheerleader, beginning with the quarter of selection, will be removed from the squad permanently. Section 8: A cheerleader candidate who does not meet academic or citizenship eligibility requirements at the time of try-outs, may appeal an extraordinary situation to the Roy Junior High Standards Committee for a variance. If a variance is allowed, it will count as the candidate s one Academic Suspension.. ARTICLE III Uniforms Each individual cheerleader must purchase a uniform. Cost will be kept as low as possible and within the guidelines set forth by Weber School District. Uniforms must be suitable to school standards and are subject to administrative approval. ARTICLE IV Duties and Responsibilities Cheerleaders will be responsible for planning and organizing pep rallies and other assemblies, supporting teams and students and performing at various school athletic events and activities, building school spirit through various other activities and projects, and setting a positive example for the student body at large. Cheerleaders will attend all practices, games and other events designated by the Cheerleader Advisor and perform/participate as directed.
Cheerleaders will wear appropriate attire/uniforms as designated by the Cheerleader Advisor. (This includes outfits worn on game days.) Each cheerleader must submit a written report of his/her grades to the Cheerleader Advisor on the day they are received at the end of each quarter. Proper conduct, good sportsmanship are expected of cheerleaders at all times. Section 6: Cheerleaders must comply with school rules and policies at all times. ARTICLE V Standards The Cheerleader Advisor shall have the authority to suspend or drop permanently, any cheerleader for any of the following or other related reasons: A. Any act or behavior that harms the reputation of the squad or the school B. Unsportsmanlike attitude or behavior, or lack of cooperation C. Failure to perform duties, attend scheduled practices, or games D. Improper use of cheerleading attire, sloppy or unkempt appearance E. Engaging in illegal activity F. Violation of school standards and policy G. Failure to maintain eligibility requirements as outlined in this Constitution
The Cheerleader Advisor shall have the authority to assess demerits that may result in the probation, suspension or dismissal of a cheerleader. Demerits will accumulate from the time of selection through the end of each cheerleader s tenure on the squad. The accumulation of ten (10) demerits will automatically suspend a cheerleader from two (2) major events (i.e. games, pep rallies) at the discretion of the Cheerleader Advisor. The accumulation of over twenty (20) demerits will result in permanent dismissal from the squad. Demerits: (This list contains examples of violations for which demerits are assessed, but is not intended to be all-inclusive. The exact number of demerits assessed will be determined by the advisor/administrator based on the severity of the violation and the number of previous warnings and/or violations). A. Truancy 5 B. During the time of probation and suspension, the cheerleader will be ineligible to participate in any group representation or to wear any part of the cheerleader uniform. The cheerleader will, however, be expected to participate in all practices and meetings and attend events as designated by the Cheerleader Advisor. The cheerleader must abide by all rules and regulations required of the squad. Beginning with selection, a Cheerleader will not be allowed more than one probation during his or her tenure on the squad. A cheerleader and his/her parent/guardian will be notified of a probation or suspension within five school days of such decision. The cheerleader and his/her parents may request a hearing to appeal a decision for probation or suspension to a Review Committee by contacting the Cheerleader Advisor or an Administrator within five school days of the notification.
The Cheerleader Advisor will facilitate the hearing. The Review Committee will be made up of the School Standards Committee and an Administrator. The cheerleader and parent/guardian will be notified of the Review Committee s decision within five school days. BY-LAWS 1. The following Cheerleader Officers will be selected to help direct the activities of the group: Captain, Co-Captain, Secretary, Historian, Props Manager, and Drill Mistress. Specific duties related to each office will be available to all cheerleaders in a separate attachment. 2. A complete uniform shall be worn on all game days and when designated by the Cheerleading Advisor. 3. Cheerleaders must ride the bus provided, to and from an activity unless the Cheerleader Advisor and the parent/guardian agree to a different arrangement in advance. 4. If a cheerleader withdraws from Roy Junior High School during his/her tenure on the squad, he or she must resign her position on the squad and will not be reinstated if he/she returns to Roy Junior High School. 5. Vacancies occurring on the Roy Junior High School Cheerleading Squad after the initial selection each year will not be filled. 6. Any cheerleader proven to be using or distributing illegal substances will be removed from the squad.
