2 Dear Prospective Cheerleading Candidate/Parent: Thank you for your interest in becoming a Flour Bluff High School cheerleader for the school year. Cheerleading can be a fun and rewarding experience and a great leadership builder for students who are prepared and willing to accept the responsibilities involved. Cheerleading is an activity for the highly motivated and enthusiastic. It is probably one of the most time consuming activities at this school, as a result, commitment and dedication are essential. There will be a mandatory parent meeting Wednesday, April 12, 2017, at 5:00 p.m. in the high school teaching theater. It is imperative that there is a current physical on file prior to tryout clinic. The UIL Physical form is attached or may be printed from our website. Required Forms: Completed/Signed Application CURRENT Physical NOTARIZED Medical Treatment and Release Liability Form This year s try out schedule will be as follows: April 17 rd Try-Out clinic. 4:15-5:30 pm, High School Cafeteria April 18 th Try-Out clinic. 4:15-5:30 pm, High School Cafeteria April 19 th Try-Out clinic. 4:15-5:30 pm, High School Cafeteria April 20 th Try-Out clinic. 4:15-5:30 pm, High School Cafeteria April 21 th TRY-OUTS in the Cafeteria. Try-Outs will be closed to the public. 3 I. GENERAL ORGANIZATION The Flour Bluff High School Cheerleading Team will consist of 2 teams; Varsity & Junior Varsity. The Varsity team will consist of a minimum of 16 members and may include incoming freshman, sophomores, juniors, & seniors and cheerleaders may be female or male. The Junior Varsity team will consist of a minimum 8 member and may include incoming freshman, sophomores, or juniors. NOTE: Seniors ARE NOT permitted to participate on the JV team. Thus, if their scores aren t high enough to make the Varsity team, they will not be selected as a cheerleader. II. ELIGIBILITY FOR TRYOUTS Candidate must be enrolled in FBISD at the time applications are due (Seashore Academy Exception) Candidates must have completed and turned in the Candidate Application and Medical Treatment/Liability Release form before Monday, April 17. (clinic start date) A UIL physical must be completed and turned in prior to participating in the mandatory clinic. It is your responsibility to ensure physical on file is current. Any candidate placed in SDGC and/or placed under suspension during the tryout clinic and/or tryout day will automatically relinquish his/her tryout positions. Deadline for payment of monies and/or returning issued equipment, uniforms, or supplies owed the Cheerleading programs at the High School or Junior High School for the cheerleading year will be Monday, April 17. Candidates failing to meet this deadline will automatically relinquish their tryout position. Candidates must attend tryout clinic sessions I-IV. Each session will be offered only once a day. A cheerleader is a representative of the school and community and is expected to exhibit and maintain a high standard of behavior both on and off campus, at all times, in accordance with, and not limited to, the rules as stated in the Flour Bluff Independent School District Student Code of Conduct. All candidates are expected to meet and uphold these standards. Candidates failing to meet these standards during the clinic and tryout process will automatically relinquish their tryout position. BE ADVISED once the candidate makes the team, failure to uphold these standards will result in automatic removal from the team. III. SELECTION OF CANDIDATES Each candidate will be judged by a panel of three (3).independent judges Should a tie occur for the final position, both candidates will be named Cheerleader. Female candidates will be scored on Jumps, Cheer Motion Technique, Cheer Communication Skills, Dance Technique, and Tumbling Skills. Male candidates will be scored on Jumps, Cheer Motion Technique, Cheer Communication Skills, Partner Stunts and Tumbling Skills. Male Candidates will try out with other male candidates; female candidates will try out with other female candidates. Judges scores count for 100% of the candidate s score. The tryouts will be closed to the public. FBISD employees will be used in the tabulation of scores, facilitation of the tryout and security.

4 IV. ALTERNATE SELECTION PROCESS Should a position on the Squad become vacant before cheerleading fittings has occurred, the candidate with the next highest score will be elevated to the Squad. No candidates will be added to the team after fittings have occurred. V. DRESS FOR TRYOUTS Black shorts, solid in color with no printing on front or back. White T-shirt, solid in color with no logos, or printing on front or back; T-shirt may be tanktop style, however it may not be see-through, backless, bare midriff, strapless, have thin shoulder straps or have cut-outs. Tennis shoes (white shoes preferred) must be worn. NO JEWELRY (including belly rings) may be worn. No glitter may be applied to the clothing worn. Make-up should not be excessive. Tattoos, rhinestones, face paint, adhesive stickers, etc., may not be worn Hair should be tied back in a ponytail. A solid bow is allowed.

Returners should be able to utilize some of the items purchased previously. Uniforms, duffle bags, megaphones, and poms will be able to be re-used and only ordered if necessary or requested. Fitting Jordan Michael, the Varsity Fashions representative, will be fitting the cheerleaders for camp clothes and uniforms. The mandatory fitting date is Monday, April 24, 2017 at 4:00 p.m. in HS Room 408. Parent is welcome, but not required, to attend fitting to ensure satisfactory sizing. At this time, Camp is tentatively scheduled in Woodlands, TX on June 16, 2017-June 18, Payment Schedule (subject to change based on total due) Friday. April 21 (day of Try-Outs)... Deposit: $ Friday, May 5... $ Friday, May $ Friday,June 2... $ Friday,June Final Payment All Payments may be made in advance, but entire balance must be paid by due date. Checks must be made payable to Flour Bluff High School and may be submitted to the front office at the High School in care of Flour Bluff Cheerleading Coach. Failure to meet the payment deadline may be cause for removal from the team.

I understand that a cheerleader is a representative of the school and community and is expected to exhibit and maintain a high standard of behavior both on and off campus, at all times, in accordance with and not limited to the rules as stated in the Flour Bluff Independent School District Student Code of Conduct. We acknowledge and understand that due to the nature of this activity there is a possibility that my son/daughter may sustain physical illness or injury (minimal, serious, or catastrophic) in connection with his/her participation. We understand these risks and will not hold Flour Bluff High School or any of its personnel responsible in the case of physical illness or injury. Please indicate the following: I do have a UIL physical form on file with the Flour Bluff Athletic Department I will ensure my physical is current using Rank One. I do not have a UIL physical form on file with the Flour Bluff Athletic Department Candidates who do not have a UIL physical on file at Flour Bluff High School or Jr. High for the school year must obtain and submit one by Monday April 17 at 4:00 pm. A UIL form may be obtained from your school or printed from our website.

8 MEDICAL TREATMENT AUTHORIZATION AND LIABILITY RLEASE I, the undersigned parent or guardian, do hereby grant permission for my daughter/son, to participate in the activity of cheerleading at Flour Buff High School. In order that my daughter/son may receive the necessary medical treatment in the event she/he may sustain injury or illness during participation in this activity, I hereby authorize the cheerleading coach or other supervising adult to obtain medical treatment for my daughter/son for such injury or illness during the activity, and I hereby hold the Flour Buff Independent School District representatives harmless in the exercise of authority. I understand that this activity involves risk to the participant. I further acknowledge and understand that due to the nature of this activity, which involves inversion and rotation of the body, there is a possibility that my daughter/son may sustain physical illness or injury during participation in this activity. I further understand that Flour Bluff High School has established rules and regulations pertaining to conduct, behavior, and activities of all student s and cheerleading participants, by which my daughter/son must abide during participation in this activity, and that, my daughter/son and I will be responsible for her/his failure to abide by those rules and regulations.
