Yu will need t be dressed ut in a t-shirt, athletic shrts, and cheer shes. NO JEWELRY. All paperwrk must be turned in t Claire Brink (J.L. Lmax) by the tryut. *Late paperwrk will nt be accepted. 2 Cheerleader Candidates and Parents, Thank yu fr yur interest in the Valdsta Cmpetitin Cheerleading prgram. Cmpetitin cheerleading is a sprt that requires discipline, training, hard wrk, and dedicatin. My gal fr the prgram is t prvide each cheerleader with cnfidence and success while develping cheerleading skills that will advance them t the next level if they s chse. Cmpetitin cheerleading is very demanding and time cnsuming. A cmpetitin cheerleader must be willing t devte time during the summer, after-schl, and n the weekends. They are expected t attend practices, clinics, camps, vlunteer appearances, fundraising pprtunities, and cmpetitins. The Valdsta Cmpetitin Cheerleading Squad will cnsist f a pssible 20 members selected by the cach and ther judges. Maximum f 16 members will cmpete at any given time. The ther 4 members will be alternates unless their time cmes t step in. Each and every girl will play a part and will be respnsible fr their part n this team. If they are nt willing r able t uphld these respnsibilities, they will be replaced. Please understand, this is NOT sideline cheerleading r recreatin cheerleading. Sme may make the team but never actually cmpete. I hpe and encurage each girl t supprt ne anther fr the best interest f the squad and t challenge themselves t be the best they can be as a persn and cheerleader. The fllwing will be cnsidered in selecting this team: Tumbling skills- a back handspring is strngly suggested but nt required Jumps- te tuch, duble te tuch, pike, and hurdlers Stunting skills- Flyers must be able t exhibit skills that require balance and flexibility ending in a twist cradle (full dwn) One legged skills such as (liberty, arabesque, heel stretch, full up, switch up, etc.) Bases must be able t use prper technique and strength t hld up their flyers and keep them safe, fr NO REASON shuld a flyer hit the flr. Backs must be able t help relieve weight ff f the bases and help keep the flyer balanced by using prper technique and strength. Must be able t wrk with a variety f grups and willing t wrk in the spt needed. Cheer technique- strng, tight mtins, knwledge f cheer rutine Dance technique- gd rhythm, fluid dance mvement Spirit- gd vice prjectin, smile, enthusiasm, eye cntact, facial expressins Attitude- must psses a gd attitude and respect t caches, team members, and any ther guest/elder. Must be able t catch n t new material quickly

3 Academic and Behavir Requirements Cheerleaders must maintain a grade f C r higher in all their academic and cnnectins classes. Cheerleaders WILL NOT display a behavir recrd fr any reasn. Each candidate must be picked up n time. Any candidate that is picked up late mre than 15 minutes three times will be released frm tryuts and/r the squad. Each candidate must attend every practice, cmpetitin, and utside event that the squad participates in. Wrk, scial event, r utside activity that is nt invlved with Valdsta Cmpetitin will be unexcused and will result in demerits. If the candidate/ cheerleader des nt withhld these requirements, they will be released frm tryuts and/r the squad. Valdsta Cmpetitin Cheerleaders are representatives f the district and are therefre required t fllw all schl rules. Any incident that is harmful t a cheerleader r the reputatin f this squad WILL result in autmatic remval. I acknwledge that cheerleading is a sprt that invlves flyers, bases, and sptters. Flyers are lifted int stunts by the bases, with the safetyriented sptters when needed. Bases and sptters are respnsible fr catching the flyers when stunts cme dwn. Cheerleading als requires frceful mtins, tumbling, vice prjectin, and jumping. Participating in cmpetitive cheerleading expses an athlete t many risks f injury. I acknwledge that even with the best caching, use f the mst advanced practice equipment, and strict bservance f rules, injuries are still a pssibility. I acknwledge that it is vital that cheerleaders fllw the cach s skill instructins, training rules, and team plicies t decrease the pssibility f serius injury.
