Meetings are held at the Harbor Lakes Golf Club, Granbury TX (See web page for map), meeting begin at 6:00pm for socializing and ordering dinner, club business starts at 7:00pm and usually over before 9:00pm. 3 MESSAGE FROM THE PRESIDENT Tim Jacksy Vets On The Rockies The first stop on our trip to Steamboat Springs Colorado for Vets on The Rockies was the Cadillac Ranch. Outside of Amarillo is a weird art thing made from 10 Cadillacs with their front ends buried in a field with their back ends sticking up in the air. People have been decorating the cars with spray paint for years. There was a big mud hole shrouding the cars with used spray paint cans floating around in it. It looked better from a distance. Met some very nice people from Colorado and ended up having several meals with them. It was fun getting to know them. The Looking Glass Corvette Club provided information about short road trips. We took one of these trips with our new friends to Finger Rock and had lunch at an old-fashioned dinner. The hotel we stayed at was across the road from the ski village. There were interesting things to see and do there. We rode the Mountain Coaster which was built on the side of the mountain. The speed and cork screw turns were exciting. We also rode the Gondola to the top of the mountain. Spectacular views of the Steamboat area. There is an old barn that you see in travel brochures for Steamboat. A photographer would take a picture of your car with the barn for $30. We decided to go take our own pictures with the barn the next day. While discussing our route back to Texas. One of our new friends who lived in the Denver area told us how to bypass the construction and traffic around Denver. It worked out great and was a quicker way to get home. 3

5 MESSAGE FROM THE Vice PRESIDENT Beth Batista Our drive through the beautiful Rocky Mountains to attend Vettes on the Rockies (VOTR) in Steamboat Springs, Colorado was a fun trip! It is absolutely beautiful in that area and with a bunch of Corvettes, it was stunning! As a national event, it was great to join other clubs from around the nation. Lone Star Corvette had about 20 cars there, and there were club representatives from other places such as Florida, California, Washington, Louisiana and New York! At the first night Meet n Greet, we proudly wore our BRCC shirts which were recognized by several people there. We saw some old friends and made several new friends, exchanged phone numbers and made plans to spend time with each other during the weekend. This is one thing I really enjoy about going to a Corvette event you never know who you are going to meet, but you know you ll have a bunch of new friends at the end of it! First night awards included best Vanity plate, which I won! We participated in several of the planned events. It was my first time to participate in a Funkhana, which is basically a parking lot event of unusual games to play while driving your Corvette. (I ve heard its been called the Rodney Dangerfield of motorsports because it gets no respect compared to Corvette racing Lol!) It doesn t take a lot of skill, and it requires a sense of humor. Tim and I took turns driving his Z06 thru the course that included stations such as a fan belt toss, spark plug relay, and nerf gun shots at a Ford truck grill. We didn t win, but we sure had fun! We also participated in the Show n Shine on one of the main streets of Steamboat Springs. The owners of the two cars representing BRCC were too tired from the two-day drive, so we didn t really detail our cars very well, but even a dusty Z06 draws lots of attention! We had a great time, and it s good to be back home, but I look forward to the next event with my car when I travel with the club to Jefferson, Texas September 7-9. Waving!! 5

6 August 2nd BRCC MINUTES Brazos River Corvette Club Meeting August 2nd, 2018 The Brazos River Corvette Club meeting was held on August 2nd, 2018 at Harbor Lakes Country Club. Betty Keck opened the evening with a prayer blessing the meal, and friendships in the club. Tim Jacksy called the meeting to order at 7:03 PM and welcomed everyone in attendance. The Pledge of Allegiance was led by Bob Williams. Beth Batista announced no guests were present. Twenty eight members were present. Kim Sheppard passed a list around of members and asked if they would sign up to donate money or a gift to the silent auction. Gifts will be collected by Sandy Varner. Reports: The July minutes by Tim Jacksy and reviewed by Kim Sheppard are available on the web site and newsletter. Gary Sheppard made a motion to accept the July minutes. They were seconded by Terry Varner. None were opposed and no additions were added. All present were in favor and approved the minutes. Pam Sharp read the club s bank balance. Bob Brandies made the motion to accept the current Treasurer s report and Gary Sheppard seconded it. All present unanimously approved the July s Treasurer report. No members opposed the report. Committee Reports: Events/Cruise Beth Batista informed the members of the get together at the Lawsons. They are planning our annual get together on September 1 at 6:30pm. We don t have to bring anything. Beth, Doug and Tim are leaving for Colorado on August 21st. A cruise led by the Varners to East Texas on September 7,8, and 9th. Terry has a list of 16 sign ups and if you are interested you need to let Terry know this week. Information is available on the web site. The annual car show is October 13th. Newsletter/Car show/,yahoo Group Manager/Photographer/Historian: Jim Hill mentioned as of now he has six cars signed up for the car show. The wine labels are done and John Boyd printed up 37 posters to be put around town. Jim asked for an approval and a vote to purchase stamps for the mail out. The cost will be around $ to $

7 Monthly Meeting Minutes Continued All were in favor to spend the money on the mail out. Kirt, Jim and Sharon s son, will buy the trophies again for the show. He has done this for about five years. Terry Keck mentioned if we could advertise his company for doing the trophies. We have the gazebo this year and the Lawson s will provide the lunches for the members working. Jim asked all members to wear either the black or white logo corvette shirt. Member Care: Sandy checked on Bob Cayman. NCCC Governor: National Corvette Museum: Bob Mischel reported to Tim we are not up to date on our dues. Tim found mention of a payment in last September minutes. The discussion was tabled until we could collect more information on what is owed. Old Business: The lunch cruise to Hard Eight was enjoyed by all members. Larry DeYoung spoke about the town of Decatur. Their is a place called Sweetie Pies with good food. There are stores to shop in too. It is about two hours and he is willing to plan a cruise there. New Business: There was a lot of discussion about the dinner charges at Harbor Lakes. Suggestions included members to order off the menu and pay for their meals, chose another location/club house and change every month to a new restaurant. Harbor Lakes is wanting a minimum of 25 meals purchased. Nin Hulett will talk with Harbor Lakes. Open Discussion: Terry would like to invite Mission Granbury to our next meeting to hear about where our funds went last year. They are very excited and thankful to receive our donation this year. Charity Raffle: Larry DeYoung won the raffle. Tim thanked everyone for attending. Adjourn: Larry Sharp made the motion to close the meeting and Gary Sheppard seconded it.
