2 In the summer of 2009, DPNY conducted 66 classes with live music for more than 200 students in 4 cities in Japan Over the past two years, DPNY has traveled to six cities between the U.S and Japan conducting workshops to help the next generation of the Japanese dancers. DPNY workshops provide ballet class, ballet variations class and modern to dancers between the ages of 6 years old to adult. The classes are taught by the Japanese dancers who are successful working professionals in NYC. DPNY workshops also provide live music in each class which is still very rare in dance studios in Japan. By bringing the best accompanists and musicians directly from NYC, DPNY workshop shows its dedication to giving students the best total experience one can have in a dance class. Live music always provides more energy and dynamic power to the class as it helps the dancers jump higher, turn quicker and make their hearts beat faster. At the end of the each workshop session, DPNY holds a Q & A SESSION with DPNY teachers. 4 YURIKO KAJIYA Soloist with American Ballet Theatre Teaches Ballet & Ballet Variation Class YURIKO KAJIYA is one of the most celebrated leading Japanese Ballerinas in the world today. Trained in Shanghai National Ballet School in China, she was the winner of the prestigious ballet competition, Prix de Lausanne in A Soloist with American Ballet Theatre, Ms. Kajiya continues establishing her career as she inspires the young dancers in Japan who are dreaming to be a successful Ballerina like herself one day. Battleworks Dance Company Teaches Modern Class KANJI SEGAWA New York Based dancer, teacher and choreographer, KANJI SEGAWA has been working extensively in the dance field of Modern and Ballet for more than a decade in the United States. As the director of DPNY, he continues pursuing his mission to help the next generation of the Japanese Dancers. Mr. Segawa teaches an exciting class that is influenced by the styles of Robert Battle, Mark Morris and Alvin Ailey. Mr. Segawa is on the faculty of American Ballet Theatre s Summer Intensive in NYC. WILLIAM CATANZARO Musician, Composer, accompanist for Modern Class WILLIAM CATANZARO is one of the busiest and most respected musicians for dance in NYC today. Playing at the prestigious institutions like The Juilliard School, The Ailey School, Steps on Broadway, his dynamic music and amazing technique of playing multiple instruments at once, brings power, energy and soul to the dancers. DPNY first presented Mr. Catanzaro in NY workshop in 2008 and then in 2009 he participated in the DPNY Japan tour. Playing for Mr. Segawa s modern class, Mr. Catanzaro s music was overwhelming and appreciated experience for the Japanese dancers who rarely have the opportunity to dance with live music.

5 New York Workshop 2009 Presents Repertory Classes of 3 American Modern Choreographers taught by 3 Japanese professional dancers In the 2009 NY workshop, DPNY provided repertory classes of three American Modern Choreographers taught by three Japanese professional dancers. The workshop was particularly for Japanese students who are studying dance in NYC. These students were able to experience the repertory of American Choreographers from historical Jose Limon, master choreographer Twyla Tharp and new voice Robert Battle. DPNY presented three Japanese born dancers, Ryoko Kudo, Rika Okamoto and Kanji Segawa as teachers who are currently working for these choreographers / companies. All the classes were taught in Japanese so that the students were able to comprehend the details better. By offering this precious experience the teachers helped them understand the style, artistry and history of each choreographer.
