4 JUVENILE DIABETES RESEARCH FOUNDATION (JDRF): By: Kim Spire Please join us in supporting the JDRF by raising funds to find a cure for type 1 diabetes. We have several options for you to participate this year. We have several members who join us on this 2 mile walk every year and we would love to have more members with us on Sunday, October 4th. We meet up at 8:30 a.m. on the west steps of the State Capitol. Paper tennis shoes will again be available for purchase in the social quarters for $1 each. These will be displayed with the donor's name on them throughout the month of September. Team "South Sac Moose" has been set up online at the JDRF website. Just go to their site and make your donation to our team to make your donation at www2.jdrf.org/ and choose team "South Sac Moose" so your donation can be credited appropriately. ABOUT JDRF ONE WALK The JDRF Walk to Cure Diabetes has become JDRF One Walk. We've changed the name of our flagship fundraising event to communicate our focus on a single goal: creating a world without type 1 diabetes (T1D). The new name, bold look, and enhanced fundraising support at this year's JDRF One Walk reflect the powerful impact you can make by joining the global leader in T1D research. Type 1 diabetes is an autoimmune disease in which a person's pancreas loses the ability to produce insulin a hormone essential to turning food into energy. It strikes both children and adults suddenly and is unrelated to diet and lifestyle. It requires constant carbohydrate counting, blood-glucose testing, and lifelong dependence on injected insulin. With T1D there are no days off, and there is no cure. That's why JDRF holds more than 200 Walks across the country every year to raise money for JDRF the only global organization with a strategic research plan to end T1D. Each year, JDRF Walks bring together more than 900,000 people who raise over $68 million for life-changing T1D research. This success is only possible because of the support, commitment, and strength of our community. Please register today.
5 BLOOD BANK MESSAGE: By: Jim Smith Thank you to all members who have donated to the most wonderful lifesaving account - the Moose Blood Bank account. Just one pint of blood can save a life - it could be you or one of your loved ones. Remember, any child can donate at the age of 16 if they weigh at least 100 lbs. and the parent or guardian gives consent. FYI, the current price for a pint of blood is approximately $2,000! If you are ever in need of blood, just give our donor number to your physician and you will not be billed. The South Sac 255 account number is 3822 and the District 4 account number is If you have any problems, feel free to contact me at , day or night - I will be happy to help. ILLNESS REPORT: Please report any member illness or distress to Jr. Regent Laurie Chaidez, Prelate Randy Wachenfeld or to Kim Spire for inclusion in the bulletin. Christie Helmers did very well with her chemo treatments and after spending over a week in the hospital is now home and regaining her strength. This is one strong woman! We're here for you, Christie! Bill Bolton has been admitted to Travis Hospital with a broken hip. Surgery was done on August 20th to repair the damage. Hurry and get better, Bill!! Glenn Jones had successful surgery to remove a mass. Both Glenn & Elaine want to thank everyone for their prayers! Soupy Uribe had surgery to remove a mass from his throat. Please join us in sending our condolences to: Hedy Fackrell on the loss of her husband and South Sac Moose member Robert Fackrell. Robert and Hedy were most often seen at the Lodge playing Bunco or dancing whenever possible. We will miss him. PRELATE'S MESSAGE: By: Randy Wachenfeld Just because the path is long, doesn't mean you shouldn't take it Just because the road is steep, doesn't mean you can't make it Just because the goal is big, doesn't mean you can't pursue it Just because it's not been done yet, doesn't mean you can't do it Persevere and never, ever give up!! Brenda Markel on the loss of her son Butch Hart on August 8, Brenda would like to thank everyone for their efforts in supporting her family at the August 17th memorial service. Special thanks are sent to Prelate Randy Wachenfeld for his heartfelt assistance at the service and at the Lodge. Please keep these members and their families in your thoughts and prayers.

We are collecting "back to school" supplies for the children at the Mustard Seed School which provides the educational needs for Sacramento's homeless children. Supplies can be paper, binders, notebooks, pencils, crayons, glue, rulers, etc. If you would like to donate items please contact me or anyone on the WOTM Board. Betty Boop will once again be holding her annual Christmas Craft Bazaar and Bake Sale on the first Sunday in December. She will need donations for the Bake Sale as well as any Craft items. We have some great ladies who work hard to put on dinners for the WOTM. I would like to thank Helen Smith for the delicious chicken and dumplings dinner. Additionally I would like to thank the ladies who do our taco nights; Kim Spire, Marcia Howard, and Bertha Holquin. These ladies are not only "can do" individuals, but also "will do" ladies. Thank you ladies for all you do. We really appreciate you. Kim Spire will be out of town most of September (she's going to visit Mooseheart), and we will need an additional volunteer for taco night on October 17 we are having a fish and shrimp dinner.
