1 Student Permission Letter for Pewaukee Pirates Cheerleading Try-outs Please fill out and return this page on Monday, April 17 th by 6:00 PM. This form and the Student Information form on the back of this sheet must be returned to Anna Duerwachter, filled out, and signed before try-outs start on Monday, April 17th at 6:00 PM. Any athlete without a form filled out properly will not be allowed to try-out. My Child,, has my permission to be a cheerleader at Pewaukee High School. I understand that he/she must abide by the rules and regulations set forth by the coach, as well as WIAA. I have read the rules and regulations in the Pewaukee High School Athletic/Activities Handbook that is attached and understand that the violation of any of these rules may lead to temporary or permanent suspension from the squad. I understand and give permission for my child to ride with the coach when necessary. I understand that all forms and payments must be completed or my child will not be allowed to participate. I also understand that my child must be in attendance at all scheduled events (practices and games) unless excused by the coach prior to the event. I understand that the very nature of the activity carries a risk of physical injury. Although no matter how careful the coach and the cheerleaders are how many spotters we use, or what landing surface we are using the risk cannot be eliminated. We will do our best to prevent these accidents from occurring. I understand these risks, and will not hold from occurring. I understand these risks, and will not hold Pewaukee High School or any of its personal responsible in the case of accident or injury at any time. I understand that my child and I are aware of the amount of time, expense, expectations, commitment and responsibility required to be part of this squad. I also understand that no jewelry will be worn during try-outs, practices, or performances and proper footwear, as well as, hair pulled away from the face and off the neck (in a ponytail, if possible) is required for my child s safety or they will not be participating. I understand that summer practices and fundraisers will be part of the commitments that I m required to fulfill to offset costs for the team and for myself. Summer camp will be taking place the week of July 31 to Aug. 3. The cheer year begins the week of July 10 four days in the afternoon from 12:15-3:15 pm and continues through March. A calendar with all practice times & games from July through Oct. 31 will be given at tryouts. The Winter Calendar is usually ready by the end of September. I understand that the try-out day is on Saturday, April 22th starting at 8:00 am and they are closed to parents and friends that are not participating and points are given for attendance at all workshop days The only excused miss will be a school Spring sport commitment which should be written in on the Student Information Sheet prior to tryouts. 3 PARENT INFORMATION SHEET For Pewaukee Pirates Cheerleading Try-outs PLEASE KEEP THIS SHEET for YOUR RECORDS. Thank you for showing your interest in trying out for the Pewaukee High School Cheerleading Teams. We will be selecting members for the PHS Varsity, and JV Teams. Being on one of these teams will qualify you to participate on our Championship Cheer Team(s). Cheerleaders will promote spirit at all of the football and basketball home games. In addition to supporting our athletic teams, we will continue to promote or school spirit within the community by participating in county and local/state cheerleading competitions. In 2012 and 2014, the Varsity team took 2 nd Place at the WACPC State Competition in both of their Cheer Dance and Stunt routines. In 2011, 2013, 2015, and 2016 we were Cheer Dance Champions at the State competition and we took 4 th Place in our Stunt routine in 2013 and 3 rd in 2015 and We also became WACPC State Champions for our Stunt Non-Tumble routine. For our JV competition team, 2014 was the first year that our JV team went to the State JAM competition. They became the JV State Champions in Cheer Dance in 2014 and 2016 and runner up in 2015! The cheer year begins the week of July 10 three to four days in the afternoon from 12:15-3:15 pm and continues through March. A calendar with all practice times will be given at Athlete/Parent meeting. Many of the girls are able to work part-time throughout the seasons. They often participate in spring track or baseball, too. Academics continue to be a priority. The Varsity squad of 16 girls this past year with a GPA average of Below you will find the information needed to have a safe, fun, and successful week trying out. Good luck and enjoy the beginning of a lifetime of memories! Location: PHS Auditorium Lobby and Auxilary Gym Workshop for Try-outs: Mon., April 17th Thurs. April 20 th 6:00 8:00 pm These days will be used to learn a cheer and chant, a dance, and the school song. You will also practice some stunts in a small group, jumps, and tumbling. There will also be time to polish up all that you ve learned during the week with your small group (that will be assigned to you) and with guidance from past cheer alumni and upperclassmen. TRY-OUT DAY: Sat., April 22nd from 8:00-9:00 am is a review/warm-up time. Try-outs is from 9:00 am until the last group goes. A better estimate of the ending time will be given after we know how many athletes will be trying out. Bring to tryouts: The Permission Letter and the Student Information form must be filled out, & signed before try-outs start on Monday, April 17 th at 6:00 PM. Any athlete without a form filled out properly will not be allowed to try-out. Come Dressed in dark colored athletic shorts, cheer shoes, & a light colored t-shirt. Please wear your hair in a ponytail, if possible, & NO jewelry or gum! All phones should be left in backpacks they should not be seen or heard during tryouts. Please attach a copy of your s Term 4 Report Card to the Permission Letter by Mon., April 17th. Plus, the Teacher REFERENCE sheet should be filled out by a core teacher and returned in a sealed envelope with your first & last name on it by Wednesday, April 19th. Please see the Rubric that will be used during workshop days and the judging sheets.

4 Summer Camp is the week of July 31 to Aug. 3, A deposit of $100 for camp, and the $50 athletic fee for the fall will be collected at the mandatory parent and cheerleader meeting on Wednesday, May 10 at 6:30 pm and $100 camp deposit will be due. You will get practice and fundraiser information from your coach, as well as, other paperwork that must be filled out and signed by a parent before your first practice. Members with Spring sport conflict should contact the coach of their team. Even if a member can t make it due to other obligations, one parent should be present. Other practice dates and times will be given out at this meeting, as well as, some dates for fundraising opportunities to offset below costs. Each member who participates will pay a minimum of $15 to a maximum of $80 per competition. Varsity participates in 3-5 competitions. It is expected that ALL varsity members will participate either as an alternate or on a competition team. However, each competition performance will determine your participation in the next competition, as well as, your attendance & participation at practices and games. They compete at 2-5 competitions. Pirates Sparkle Crew Peer Mentor Opportunity **Are you interested in being a Peer Mentor for the Pirates Sparkle Crew? If the answer is, Yes! here is more information. The Sparkle Crew is a group of students with disabilities and peer cheerleaders without disabilities who work together to create a cheer experience at games, in social events, and even at competitions. We usually will practice for an hour, one night per week. We also will have a few times that we meet in August. Last year we had 15 Varsity peer mentors with 4 girls who have disabilities. The Sparkle Crew Peer Mentor s is open to Varsity and JV Cheerleaders. In order to be a peer mentor, please Coach Duerwachter duerann@pewaukeeschools.org a letter stating why you would like to be a peer mentor and what experience or skills you could bring to the Sparkle Crew Team by Saturday, April 22 nd. If you were a peer mentor in the past and wish to continue this role, please Coach Duerwachter stating that you wish to continue being a peer mentor by the same time.
