1 The mission of the CUMC Summer Program is to act as an outreach ministry embodying the Social Principles of the United Methodist Church which maintain that education is the responsibility of the church as well as of the family and the schools, and instructs the use of "innovative methods of education designed to assist every child toward complete fulfillment as an individual person of worth." How to Register: Enrollment will be at the Colby United Methodist Church Office. Enrollment times are as follows: Monday, May 15 Tuesday, May 16 4:00 6:00 p.m. (CUMC Congregation) 4:00 6:00 p.m. (Open to the public) If you missed open enrollment, you may enroll at the church office during normal business hours. Be aware that some classes will be full. Enrollment fees are due upon enrollment. Classes will be filled on a first come, first serve basis. Classes fill quickly, so do not delay. 2 Notes for Parents: All grade levels listed are for grades completed unless otherwise specified. Pay close attention to the days on each class. Some classes are Tuesday, Wednesday & Thursday. Some classes are only one day, some two, some six, some weekly, etc. Please complete a registration form for each child. You may make copies of the registration form. Additional copies can also be sent to you by mail, , or FAX by calling the CUMC office. You may also download additional registration forms at Read class description carefully. Some classes require students to bring supplies. Some classes overlap, so watch carefully when signing up. We will be closed for a lunch hour everyday from 12:00-1:00. Please keep in mind that children will have to be picked up promptly so that the staff can have time for a lunch break between classes. The church reserves the right to cancel classes due to funerals, or other reasons that may arise. Again, please look at dates and times carefully. All fees are non-refundable. Please note: We will not have any classes on July 4 th. 1
3 WEEKLY CLASSES SUMMER THEATRE CAMP Instructor: Lois O Brien Tuesdays 10:00-11:00 2 nd MS This will be a 6-week Summer Theatre Camp. We will learn basic theater and acting skills through fun activities and games. The kids will also learn a short play that they will present in July. TWO BY TWO Instructor: Kara Kuhlman Wednesdays 10:00-11:00 Preschool This class will explore a Noah s Ark theme with fun crafts, games and activities. Join us for two by two fun for all preschoolers. CRAZY COASTERS Thursdays 10:00-11:00 2 nd -6 th Calling all future builders and engineers. We will use recycled materials to build wild and crazy marble roller coasters. Wear old clothes for this class because we might get messy. WEEK 1 ~ June 6-8 (CUP)CAKE BOSS Instructor: Nikol Nolan June :00-11:00 Kind-2 nd Learn how to make and decorate cupcakes-and eat them, too! In this class we will cover basic decorating tips that are sure to impress. SPANISH CLASS Instructor: Martha Balbuena June :00-11:00 Kind-5 th We will learn basic words and some conversational phrases in Spanish as an introduction to the language. 2
4 (MINI)CAKE BOSS Instructor: Nikol Nolan June :00-12:00 3 rd -5 th No 5-tiered wedding cakes here, but you will learn the basic techniques necessary to create a decorated cake your friends and family will find worth celebrating (and eating!) PRINCESS PARTY Instructor: Vanessa Best June :00-12:00 Pres-Kind Your little princess will have lots of fun with this class. We will have fun crafts and activities around a princess theme with a dressup tea party on the last day. You ll be sure to sparkle! ALL ABOUT SPACE! Instructor: Martha Balbuena June :00-12:00 Pres-Kind We will have fun crafts, games and activities with a cool space theme. CREATE WITH CLAY June 6-8 & June :00-2:00 3 rd -5 th We will create various fun clay projects with hand-building techniques. Please note that this week is the building session. You will also need to come to Session 2 in Week 3 to glaze the clay pieces. When you sign up you are signed up for both. MINI MANI/PEDI CLASS Instructor: Stephanie Thomas June 6-8 1:00-2:00 Pres-2 nd Beautify your fingers and toes with this mani/pedi class. We will do nails the first day, toes the second day and fun face paint on the last day. Please note that your child will have any polish that is already on their fingers removed so we can paint new designs. WEEK 2 ~ June FABRIC STARS Instructor: Becky Williams June :00-11:00 2 nd -5 th We will create beautiful fabric star ornaments using fabric pieces woven together and embellished with fun buttons and beads. BUGS & FLOWERS Instructor: Martha Balbuena June :00-11:00 Pres-Kind We will explore creepy crawly bugs and beautiful flowers with fun crafts, games and activities. LIL DANCE CAMP Instructors: Elizabeth Brown & Bailey Menges CHS Dance Team Members June :00-11:00 Pres-1 st Get ready to move and dance! CHS Dance team members will teach your child basic dance moves and they will learn a short dance routine to perform on the last day! 4
6 TRANSPORTATION Instructor: Tera Woofter June :00-12:00 Pres-Kind All aboard for some fun with transportation! We will travel through the week with fun crafts, activities and games with a transportation theme. Lots of fun planned for little ones who like to travel and move! Wear old clothes because we will get messy. BATH-TASTIC! Instructor: Rachelle Morrison June :00-3:00 3 rd -MS We will create all kinds of wonderful homemade bath products in this class: sugar scrubs, soaps and other cool things. You ll have lots of fun creating your own bath accessories. Wear old clothes because we might get messy. 5
7 MAKING MUSIC Instructor: Stephanie Thomas June :00-3:00 Kind-5 th You will create music with homemade instruments that we will make ourselves. This class is for the kids who are crafty and musical! BASIC BATIK June :00-3:00 3 rd -5 th We will learn the technique of batik, a method of producing colored designs on fabrics by dyeing them, having first applied wax to the parts to be left undyed. This is a beautiful and fun process. Please bring a simple picture to class to use as an idea for your batik. Wear old clothes because this process is very messy. WEEK 3 ~ June MINI CHEFS Instructor: Stephanie Thomas June :00-11:00 Kind-2 nd We will have fun in the kitchen as we mix, chop and bake our way through some great recipes. We will make simple recipes that kids can recreate at home and learn basic safety information in the kitchen. COOKING CLASS Instructor: Stephanie Thomas June :00-12:00 3 rd -5 th We will have fun in the kitchen as we mix, chop and bake our way through some great recipes. Wear old clothes because we might get messy! PRINTMAKING June :00-3:00 3 rd -5 th We will learn the process of printmaking and create our own handmade cards using the printing blocks that we carved. This is a very messy and fun process. WEEK 5 ~ July 4-6 SHRINKY DINK FUN Instructor: Stephanie Thomas July 5 & 6 10:00-11:00 Kind-5 th Remember the joy of Shrinky Dinks as we make fun projects out of shrinking plastic. LET S GET DIGGING! Instructor: Ann Miner Prairie Museum of Art & History July 5 & 6 11:00-12:00 Kind-6 th We will explore the fields of Paleontology and Archeology and learn how they can tell us about our past. Students will learn the basics of marking and preparing a dig site and get to practice their excavating skills at the museum. 9
