2 About Generation Dance Generation Dance is a performing arts school located at Immanuel College, Novar Gardens and our brand new head office in Kinkaid Avenue, North Plympton. The centre offers a range of dance classes for all ages and abilities. Students feel comfortable and nurtured, are taught correctly, safely and fairly, enjoy themselves, make life long friends and are encouraged, in a positive way, to reach their full potential and personal goals. Through our extensive training programs and classes offered, we train and develop talented, successful and happy dancers. Incorporating technique, workshops, examinations and performance opportunities, Generation Dance is the school for tomorrow s stars! Generation Dance is a small business that is community minded, family friendly, organised and professional. Our classes are structured, teachers are experienced and qualified, our fees are affordable with no hidden costs and we are up to date with all relevant policies and practices ensuring a safe environment for all students. Classes Available Ready Set Dance A brand new music and movement class with a major emphasis on fun and creating confident little people! 2 ½ to 5 years Through exercises such as balancing bean bags, working as a team with the parachute, singing on the microphone, and playing musical instruments, the classes extend beyond dance to develop skills such a teamwork and confidence. Classical Ballet (AICD) Contemporary (CSTD) Jazz (ATOD) Tap (ATOD) Hip Hop Acrobatics Musical Theatre Competition Troupe Private Lessons We teach the AICD classical ballet syllabus and combine this with core-training program, Progressing Ballet Technique. Classical Ballet is the foundation of all other dance styles and we recommend all students enrol in a classical ballet class. Technique, focus, strength, flexibility, posture are all things taught and learnt during our classes. Students have the option of sitting their AICD ballet exams. We teach the CSTD Jason Winters Contemporary Syllabus which is Australia s best contemporary syllabus. A ballet technique based commercial syllabus that allows freedom to use the body and incorporates stretch, floor work and jumps. The ATOD modern jazz syllabus is fast, up beat and technical, ensuring all students are receiving a high standard of jazz technique training. The syllabus incorporates warm up, stretch, isolations, turns, kicks, jumps and cool down. Students have the option of sitting their ATOD jazz exams. Tap is an energetic dance style teaching students all about beats, rhythm and musicality. Students learn a full range of tapping steps as well as combinations and choreography. Students have the option of sitting their ATOD tap exams. One of today s most popular styles of dance. Upbeat, fast, energetic movements to popular music incorporating all genres of Hip Hop dance. We teach the Acrobatics Arts syllabus and students are taught flexibility and strength work as well as tumbling and tricks. Students are placed in classes based on their ability level. An acting and singing technique class, which compliments our students dance training, ensuring a versatile dancer. Students learn all choreography for troupe work. This covers all dance styles. Students learn choreography for solo, duo or trio work. We have classes available for students from the age of 2 ½. Please see the 2017 information for all classes available for your child. Ages are taken on the 1 st of January For example, to be eligible for the Under 8 class, students must be 6 or 7 on the 1 st of January Students can enrol in any combination of technique classes. Students participating in a full program for their age group will excel further than those who do not so please consider all class options and what is right for your child. Faculty Jodie Freeman - DIRECTOR CSTD T/D, A/CBA, A/AICD Jodie is a passionate dance teacher, an experienced business owner and a self-confessed work-a-holic.

She has trained in many different styles but excelled in Classical Ballet, Contemporary and Tap.

She has gained her Commonwealth Society of Teachers of Dancing Tapping Teachers Diploma and Cecchetti Ballet Australia and Australian Institute of Classical Dance Associate Teacher status.

She is currently studying her Diploma of Dance Teaching and Management through the Australian Teachers of Dancing.

3 Faculty Jodie Freeman - DIRECTOR CSTD T/D, A/CBA, A/AICD Jodie is a passionate dance teacher, an experienced business owner and a self-confessed work-a-holic. Jodie s story began when she was 5 and persuaded her very sporty parents to enrol her in dance classes. She has not once looked back and her love of this beautiful art form constantly grows. She has trained in many different styles but excelled in Classical Ballet, Contemporary and Tap. Jodie s passion was always teaching and after completing her dance studies began teaching around Adelaide in both private dance schools and educational schools. She has gained her Commonwealth Society of Teachers of Dancing Tapping Teachers Diploma and Cecchetti Ballet Australia and Australian Institute of Classical Dance Associate Teacher status. She is also Treasurer of the AICD SA branch and a committee member of the SASDS Eisteddfod. She is currently studying her Diploma of Dance Teaching and Management through the Australian Teachers of Dancing. Jodie is a teacher who encourages hard work and commitment; she helps students set goals and follows through by ensuring they are reached. She encourages discipline and respect from all students but above all is compassionate and caring and is aware of student s limitations both physically and emotionally. She has an eye for detail, technique, choreography and composition. Ongoing professional development ensures Jodie is aware of current teaching practices and extensive research means the students are taught the most up to date dance styles. Jodie is extremely organised and efficient, whilst her creative and artistic personality is nurtured throughout her teaching, her strong business mind means the administration side of the business in well organised and structured. Her admin system is easy for parents to follow and they always know what is going on with regular newsletters and communication. Jodie has spent a lot of time and effort into making Generation Dance a positive and supportive environment for both students and their parents. Lia Cocks - CO-ORDINATOR & ADMINISTRATION Lia trained in Adelaide with Sheila Lang before heading west to WAAPA (Western Australian Academy of Performing Arts) where she studied under prima ballerina Lucette Aldous. A severe injury brought her back to Adelaide where she continued to dance and perform before having her 3 adorable children. Lia is the current chairperson of Move Through Life Dance Company and is a huge supporter of dance around Adelaide. Lia has a strong love for Classical Ballet and loves teaching our students at Generation Dance. Lia co-ordinates all of our classical ballet and contemporary classes and teaches most of the AICD exam classes. Jasmine Golding - TEACHER & ADMINISTRATION Jasmine is trained in all styles of dance and cheerleading and specialises in our junior and middle school. Jasmine loves teaching all ages and styles of dance and also choreographing for our Showcase and some competition work. Jasmine is also at University studying her Bachelor of Early Childhood Education as well as still dancing and performing at several venues and events around Adelaide. Gemma Freeman - TEACHER Gemma is trained in all styles of dance and musical theatre and specialises in our middle and senior school. Gemma teaches from Under 12 upward as well as choreographing for our Showcase and competition troupes. Gemma has been involved in numerous Musical Theatre productions around Adelaide and is also at University studying Social Work. Katrina Proud - TEACHER BA(Dance) Katrina studied all styles of dance and then completed her Bachelor of Arts (Dance) at AC Arts. Kat specialises in Contemporary and Classical Ballet and also Showcase choreography. Nikki Cassebohm - TEACHER Nikki is one of our junior teachers who specialises in all dance styles. She brings a huge amount of energy, discipline and technique to her classes which are always a heap of fun. Carolyn Ferrie - TEACHER Carolyn is our Musical Theatre teacher and comes to us with a wealth of experience and knowledge. She has performed in The King & I, Cats, Sound of Music, Sweeny Todd and Fiddler on The Roof. She has worked in television on Here s Humphrey, Neighbours, Kingdom of Paramithi and for many years was the original voice of Dorothy the Dinosaur.

We also have a fully stocked uniform shop at both venues.

4 Our Studios We have 2 studios located in the Sports Centre at Immanuel College and 2 studios plus a musical theatre studio at our brand new head office in North Plympton. Both venues offer a foyer (allowing parents to wait comfortably), toilets, change room and fully equipped studios with air conditioning, tarkett floors, mirrors and barres. We also have a fully stocked uniform shop at both venues. Immanuel College Sports Centre - 32 Morphett Road, Novar Gardens SA 5040 Head Office - 18 Kinkaid Avenue, North Plympton 5037 Performances, Examinations & Competitions Mid Year Display We hold a Mid Year Display at the end of Term 2. This gives parents, families and friends another opportunity to see the student s progress and see what they have been learning in their classes during Term 1 & 2. This performance is casual and fun, no costumes required and is a great way to introduce new students to performing on stage in front of an audience. Showcase This is a large performance showcasing the whole school. It is a themed show in 4 highly entertaining acts with all students showcased on stage and includes costumes, stage props, lighting and video projection. It is not a lengthy performance and very entertaining and family friendly; it s also a fantastic way to end the dancing year! Ready Set Dance students perform in their own Showcase, which is separate to the main Showcase. Costumes are required for this performance and we start organising these during term 3. All students pay a $33 Showcase Levy which covers extra rehearsals, a participation medal and commemorative T-Shirt. All showcase costumes are hired. Examinations We offer AICD ( Ballet examinations from the age of 5 (Pre Primary). Once a student reaches Grade 2 they must attend 3 ballet classes per week. We also offer ATOD ( Tap & Jazz examinations from the age of 7 and CSTD ( Contemporary from the age of 11. This syllabus work is taught in the technique classes and the students have the option of sitting their exam so whilst it is recommended, it is not compulsory. Successful exam candidates receive an examination report and medal and it is a very rewarding experience. Examinations are required if any student is wanting to teach dance as this enables them to study and sit teaching examinations. Competitions Students participating in Competition Troupe classes will all compete in various competitions throughout the year. Please see the Competition Troupe Calendar for all dates. Selected students will have the option of a private lesson where they will learn solos, duos and/or trios. Students must attend all Competition Troupe Classes and all compulsory classes. Students are expected to be of a high standard and commitment to classes is essential. All competition costumes are hired. New Students & How To Enrol We welcome new students up to August 31st. As we are extremely busy preparing for our Showcase in the last half of term 3 and term 4 we suggest all students wait until the following year to enrol. All new Ready Set Dance students are entitled to 3 free trial lessons, all other new students are entitled to 1 free trial week where they can try as many classes as they would like. From there we can work out which class/es would be best suited to your child. Any student starting mid year will only be charged for the number of lessons left in the year. To enrol in a class please go to the online enrolment portal from our website From here you can fill out customer and student details and also choose classes in which you would like to enrol. Once this is submitted to our administration team they will confirm your child s enrolment via . To complete your child s enrolment, you must return a terms and conditions of enrolment and payment form. New students may wear loose clothing and socks to their trial lessons and after enrolling in their classes they must purchase the uniform.

5 Costumes Costumes are a huge part of a stage performance. A lot of time and effort goes into the concept, music selection, choreography, props and lighting that a costume just completes the overall stage experience. All students will require costumes for the Showcase and also all competition items. In 2017 we are working very closely with a costume hire company which means all costumes will be hired. Fees Our class fees are charged per year but we break that down into equal monthly payments (full year is 10 months - Feb to Nov) and we offer a range of payment methods. Our preferred payment method is direct debit but we also accept Electronic Funds Transfer. We do not accept fee payments by cash or cheque. All fees and payment conditions are clearly displayed on the 2017 classes available and terms and conditions of enrolment. We do not offer a casual or pay as you go payment system and parents must keep up to date with fee payments. General Information Students are asked to arrive to their lessons 15 minutes early to prepare for their lesson and warm up. As soon as the previous class has finished it is expected the next class enters the studio and begins warming up. Students are not to enter the studio prior to their class as this is very disruptive. Our head office and administration team is open and available Tuesday to Friday 11:30 2:30pm. If you need contact us this is the time to call, if you call outside of these hours you may leave a message and your call will be returned during office hours. You may at any time. Please SMS through all absentees to Studios are open 15 minutes prior to classes commencing for the morning or afternoon. Please ensure students are picked up on time as teachers cannot be expected to wait for you to collect your child. Students are always required to be in uniform with their hair neatly pulled back. Grooming is very important at Generation Dance. If you look like a dancer, you will feel like a dancer. Teachers enforce correct grooming and uniform. Students are not permitted to leave class except to use the toilet. All students must go to the toilet before their class starts to avoid disruption (especially younger students). No child is to be left unattended in our foyer or change room area. As our Immanuel studio is a communal space, everyone has access to the toilets and foyer. Teachers cannot monitor these areas and for students safety it is important they are always supervised. Please keep our studios clean and tidy and dispose of rubbish in the bins provided. Please do not eat anywhere inside the studio, please utilise the surrounding playgrounds and outside facilities. Parents are not permitted to watch dance classes unless a teacher has asked them to. New students may have a parent with them until they are settled into class. Our studio is a bully free environment. This applies to ALL students and ALL parents. Students and parents are required to respect all other members and make the Centre a pleasant environment. Please be aware that any negativity brought into our studio will be brought to the attention of the Director and in extreme cases, students and their parents will be asked to leave the Centre. Negative chitchat or gossip of any kind will not be tolerated. The Centre is run in an organised and professional manner, if you feel the Centre is not suited to you or your child then you are encouraged to find another school that is. Teachers also must follow a very strict code of conduct to ensure your children are receiving the highest quality dance tuition. If there are ever any concerns regarding your child and Generation Dance you are encouraged to contact the Director after 24 hours of the issue arising. We follow a strict 24 hour rule which gives everyone time to reflect, de-brief and then calmly discuss what happened and work together to find a solution or resolve the matter. We welcome all feedback, preferably in a constructive or positive manner and at an appropriate time.

6 Why choose Generation Dance? We have fully equipped studios that are comfortable and safe for your child. We offer Adelaide s best after school hours dance program with classes available for children of all ages and abilities. We only employ experienced and qualified teachers and offer intensive teacher training for student teachers. All teachers share a love and passion for dance and for teaching children. We are associated with the Australian Teachers of Dancing The Australian Institute of Classical Dance Commonwealth Society of Teachers of Dancing and Ausdance We follow their safe dance guidelines, training manuals and syllabi with examinations and workshops offered in all dance styles. We are Family Friendly as we understand how busy families can be. We group lessons together meaning fewer trips to and from our studio. We do not hold last minute rehearsals meaning families do not have to juggle other commitments at short notice. We offer fee discounts for students enrolling in 2 or more classes to help with affordability. We offer a comfortable waiting area if families or siblings need to wait at the studio (however we can not provide supervision for children left unattended). We charge our fees per year which includes 35 lessons however parents pay this over 10 months, which means smaller payments more often helping with family budgeting. We offer a hire service for costumes to keep costs down. We do not expect your child s dance lessons to take priority over your child s life. Jodie encourages all children to partake in as many activities/sports as they can fit in; it is healthy and beneficial for children to be diverse. The Centre will try to be as flexible as possible however it is important that you and your child are aware that full attendance to lessons is the only way to ensure your child is receiving the most out of their classes. There is a certain level of attendance and commitment required from examination and competition troupe students and if committing to these, must take priority over other activites. We are child friendly as we understand how adults and peers can greatly affect a child s self esteem and confidence. Our employees will always speak to students respectfully and in an appropriate tone and level (however teachers do need to shout over loud music at times). Our centre encourages discipline; hard work and commitment and this is always rewarded. Our teachers are trained to deliver constructive criticism in a way beneficial to children and will always talk to parents about any problems or issues. Our centre is always a happy place and somewhere our students always want to be. Our director is a qualified mandatory reporter and will report any signs of abuse or neglect. We are a small business with a big emphasis on organisation and professionalism. We are an award winning dance school with outstanding results from previous examinations and competitions. We are currently training The Stars of Tomorrow.

If you look like a dancer, you feel like a dancer. Hair must be in a ballet bun for all classes, except Hip Hop. Please use headbands and/or bobby pins to keep fringes and/or short hair of the student s faces. Students will be asked to leave class and fix their hair if it is not done properly. We have a huge range of new and second hand items for sale at head office. If you have any old dancewear to sell please bring it in in a clear zip lock bag with your name and selling price clearly displayed. GD retains 10% of sale price for this service. Our uniform shop (head office) is open during office hours and when the front desk is attended and our Immanuel uniform shop is open when the front desk is attended. * Any dancewear and/or shoes NOT available from Generation Dance can be purchased from dance stores.
