I understand that he/she must abide by the rules and regulations set forth by the advisor and the principal of Eleanor McMain Secondary School, and be present for all practices and games. I have read the rules and regulations and understand that the violation of any of these rules may lead to temporary or permanent suspension from the squad. I understand and give permission for my daughter/son to ride with the advisor and/or other parents when necessary. I understand that all forms attached must be completed by March 13, 2017, or my child will not be allowed to tryout. I understand that my child must attend all practices (unless excused by the advisor) and tryout sessions, or my child will not be considered for a cheerleading position. 2 Eleanor McMain Secondary School Cheerleader Guidelines You have all received copies of the MCM Cheerleader Guidelines, and you are expected to adhere to every word in print. In addition, the team has rules in place that must be followed. Please become familiar with all rules, policies, procedures and demerits. Parents Cheerleading Cheerleader parents are very valuable components to the success of a team. We rely on you for transportation, support, and assistance with fundraisers. Our parents mean a lot to us, especially since they are our #1 Fans. As coaches, we consider every suggestion brought to our attention, but we make decisions based upon what s best for the team and not what is best for your child. We expect you, the MCM cheerleader parents, to support our decisions even when you may not agree with them. We set high expectations, and on negative attitude can influence others. In addition, we expect our parents to represent our cheer program with dignity and class. This includes but is not limited to fundraiser events, athletic events, competitions and social media. As a cheerleader, priority #1 is to promote school spirit. Every team, group, and organization affiliated with MCM deserves support from their cheerleaders, and as a cheerleader you should be their #1 fan. Cheerleaders do attend all basketball games. All teams need cheerleaders, and we will do our very best to bring spirit to these sports. Expectations Every cheerleader is expected to adhere to the MCM Cheerleader Guidelines including academic requirements, and behavior requirements. We understand that cheerleading require a lot of time, but we expect each cheerleader to be responsible and mature with handling a packed schedule. You have committed to a team sport. This means other team members rely on you to improve, work hard and show up. Please plan ahead, and try not to let your team members down. Every cheerleader is given a monthly calendar at least one week before the start of the month. She is responsible for attending every practice and activity on it. We try to not make changes to the schedule once issued, but we do make changes occasionally when needed in addition, cheerleaders are expected to conduct themselves appropriately in school. If a cheerleader relinquishes his/her position on the squad at any time during the school year, he/she is ineligible to try out for cheerleader the following year and is still responsible for any money owed on any remaining balance for that year. School Attendance Requirements Cheerleaders must attend school at least a half day in order to participate at practice or at a pep rally or game.

3 Social Media Cell Phones Pep Rallies Game/Event Expectations Cheerleaders who participate in social media must conduct themselves in a manner appropriate to represent MCM cheerleaders. Cell phones are not allowed during PRACTICE, NOR GAMES/ACTIVITIES. Cell phones need to be put away in your purse or bag and not checked for ANY reason. Cheerleaders may check phones or place calls directly after school and after game/practice, activity. PARENTS SHOULD CONTACT ONE OF THE COACHES IN THE EVENT OF AN EMERGENCY. Pep Rallies at MCM are important performances for cheerleaders. They are used to promote school spirit as well as pump up the teams and Mustang Fans for games and activities. It is also a time for cheerleaders to showcase their more advanced skills; therefore pep rallies are imperative to ensure that this collaborative activity is timed precisely. If a cheerleader misses a practice for ANY REASON during the week of a pep rally, he/she will NOT be permitted to perform. Also if a cheerleader has not learned choreography for a routine, she will not perform the routine. Cheerleaders are expected to perform throughout the entire game/event. They will dance to every song, cheer frequently and show spirit after every cheer, etc when appropriate. All cheerleaders are expected to attend every game and event, and they are required to ride school board provided transportation to and from activities. Cheerleaders should be dropped off and picked up from MCM. Additional game/event expectations are: 1. During games or events, cheerleaders are expected to wear the proper uniform specified. Everyone must look the SAME. This includes, shoes, socks, bloomers, and ribbon. Makeup should be fresh and natural. (NO DARK COLOR EYE SHADOWS, NO COLORFUL LIPSTICKS NEUTRAL ONLY.) Game and event hair is a neat ponytail with specified ribbon. Only on special occasions do we modify this rule. 2. When in uniform BOYFRIEND CONTACT SHOULD BE ELIMINATED. Holding hands, hugging, and kissing FORBIDDEN. 3. Nails cannot exceed fingertips. Long nails can cause you or someone else injury. On addition, false nails are prohibited. Also only clear polish is acceptable. Polish on fingernails will nail you demerits. 4. No jewelry should be worn during practices, games, or activities. (PLEASE DO NOT PIERCE ANYTHING DURING CHEERLEADING; YOU WILL HAVE TO REMOVE IT.) 5. No visible tattoos or unnatural hair color permitted. 6. Water or sports drinks should be the only drinks consumed during activities, and they are only consumed between quarters and at half time. Also, food is prohibited during games/activities. Please eat before and after games/activities. 7. Cheerleaders are allowed to break during half time. This break ends three minutes before the start of the second half. This means all cheerleaders must be in formation and ready to cheer at that time. 8. Socializing during games/activities is strictly prohibited. Cheerleaders need to focus on the game. 9. Cheerleaders are not allowed to chew gum in uniform. 10. Cheerleaders are required to call a coach if he/she is running late or has to miss a scheduled practice or activity. The cheerleader will be BENCHED for the next scheduled activity if this rule is broken. 11. Cheerleaders are role models; therefore they should always exhibit appropriate behavior. Smoking, drugs, and alcohol are a NO NO. Consuming such harmful substances in uniform or out of uniform will result in immediate dismissal. 12. All cheerleaders deserve respect, and under no circumstance will disrespect be tolerated towards anyone including teammates, captains, parents, coaches, nor administration.

4 Cheerleading Parent Information Please take this home for your parents approval. It contains important information for all of you to review if you are considering trying out for the cheerleading squad at Eleanor McMain Secondary School. Important Dates: It is important for the student to be available on these dates. Permission must be obtained from the coach in advance if the student cannot fulfill this obligation. Tryout Clinic: March 20-23, :45-5:30 Tryouts: March 23, 2017 First meeting: April 19, 2017 at 5:45 p.m. (Mandatory Parent Meeting) Uniform Sizing: April. 19, 2017 at 4:30 p.m. (after school) Practice Sessions: May will begin spring conditioning. Practice will be held Mon.-Wed. from 3:45-5:00. Practice days and times will change depending sports seasons. Summer Camp: May 30-June 2, 2017 ($329 per person) Costs: Each cheerleader will be responsible for all costs associated with being a member of the cheerleading squad. The costs shown below are approximate. Uniforms: $800 Competitions: LHSAA Cheer Competition TBA (usually in November or December)
