Since I Don t Have You SING DANCE Monday Tuesday Wednesday Thursday Friday Saturday 5 CALL BACK LIST POSTED (packets posted online) 6 7 CALLBACK MUSIC CLINIC OCTOBER 7:00-9:00 (Printed packets distributed) 8 9 CALLBACKS 6:00-9:00 10 DANCE AUDITIONS 9:00-10:00 CALLBACKS 10:0-12:00 [Lunch Break] 1:00-4:00 : (Belting Soprano, dancer) The new girl in town and Danny's love interest. The sweet, wholesome, naive, attractive ingénue. An innocent and demure girl who transferred from an all-girls school to attend Rydell during her senior year. She spent her summer at the beach with Danny, unaware of the fact that he was a Greaser until running into him on the first day of school. She is shy and vulnerable, and doesn't fit in with the Greasers, yet she still loves Danny, and can't decide whether to accept him as he is or leave him. Looking for someone who possesses that fresh-faced girl next door sweet quality (without being saccharine), but can then transform before our eyes and cross over into Pink Lady territory. She must have a mixed voice that can handle the difficult chest belting and the pure head voice moments of the scores big powerhouse numbers! Youtube: Since I Don t Have You Susan Wood

Sandy / Pink Ladies / Patty Act I Sc. 2 (lunch) [FRENCHY and enter, carrying trays.] Hey, you guys. FRENCHY Hi, Frenchy. Hey, French. French. FRENCHY This is my new next-door neighbor, Sandy Dumbrowski. This here s Rizzo, and that s Marty and, well, you remember Jan. [ gives a vague look and never stops chewing.] How do you like Rydell so far, Sandy? Oh, it seems real nice. I was going to go Immaculata, but my father had a fight with the Mother Superior over my patent leather shoes. What do ya mean? She said boys could see up my dress in the reflection. Swear to God? Hey! Where do you get shoes like that? [The PINK LADIES giggle.] [From offstage] Hi, kids! PINK LADIES [The PINK LADIES look up and all groan with disgust]

Ohhhhh, nooo. [It s enters with two of her cronies. This cheerleader is all sincere aggression. The cronies stand nearby until she turns to shoo them away.] Ohhhh, look whose comin Patty Simcox, the Little Lulu of Rydell High! [PINK LADIES all groan looks confused as PATTY stands over them for a moment just exuding.] Well, don t say hello! We won t! PINK LADIES Oh, I just loooove the first day of school! Don't you? It's the biggest thrill of my life. Oh, you'll never guess what's happened! Prob ly not. Well, they just announced the nominees for this year s student council aaaand -- And? PINK LADIES Guess who's up for vice-president? [Knowing what s coming] Who!?

ME! Isn t that the most? To say the least? The very least. I just hope I don't make too poor a showing. Well, we certainly wish you the best of luck, don't we girls? [ crosses her fingers and shows PATTY. The other girls mimic her.] FRENCHY Oh, yeah. Yeah, sure. Yeah-yeah. Keeping my fingers crossed. Oh, gee, thank you. Thank you! Oh, you must think I'm a terrible clod We do! PINK LADIES [PATTY pushes her way to sit on the bench, FRENCHY falls off the other end, stands and begins to do s hair.] I never even bothered to introduce myself to your new friend. Oh, I m Sandy Dumbrowski. It certainly is a pleasure to have you here at Ry-dell

Thanks. Well, I ll bet you'll be at cheerleader tryouts next week, won t ya? Oh, no. I don t think so. I d be too embarrassed. Oh, don t be silly. I could give you a few pointers if like and we'll have so much fun and get to be lifelong friends!

Sandy / Danny / Patty Act 1 Sc. 2 (1 st Day) [The PINK LADIES shove toward and she looks up. You could knock her over with a feather.] Danny?!?! [His tough boy boy demeanor dissolves into a genuine smile.] Sandy! Hiiiiii. Hi! [Brings her DS a bit.] I thought you were going to Immaculata? We had a change of plans. I don t believe it! [He stops short, looks around and sees the guys have followed them DS and are staring at them intently. In an instant he snaps back to his macho posture, doing almost a riff of cool and nervous trying desperately to hang onto his image. He shakes back his shoulders, flips his hair, and digs his hands into his pockets. Back to Mr. Cool. The Iceman.] but that's cool, baby. Cool, you know how it is. Rockin and rollin and whatnot! [Looking at him as though he has lost his senses.] Danny? That's my name, don t wear it out. What's the matter with you?

What'sa matter with me, baby? What'sa matter with you? What happened to the Danny Zuko I met at the beach? [To the BOYS and nods toward as though implying she s just one of the many who pursue him.] I do not know. I mean, maybe uh, maybe there's two of us, right? Why don't you take out a missing-persons ad or.or try the yellow pages? Well, I ll see ya around. [Pushes the GUYS out] Come on, guys, let s split.

Sandy / Pink Ladies Act 1 Sc. 4 (Pajama Party) Gee, maybe Sandy s right. Maybe it is kinda chilly in here. I think I ll put my. [ pulls out a gaudy kimono and makes a big show of putting it on.] robe on Hey, Marty, where dja get that thing? Oh, you like it? It s from Japan. This guy I know sent it to me. No kiddin? He's a Marine. And a real doll too! A Marine! / FRENCHY / [The GIRLS all scream] FRENCHY Hey Marty, can he get me one of those things? The robe, or the marine? You never told us you knew any Marines! Yeah, how long you known this guy? Oh Just a coupla months. I met him on a blind date at the roller rink and the next thing I know, he joins up. Anyway, right off the bat he starts sendin me things and then today I got this kimono.

[Trying to be cool.] Oh, yeah, look what else! [ takes a ring on a chain out of her shirt. The GIRLS scream again] It s just a tiny bit too big. So I gotta get some angora 1 for it. Jeez. Engaged to a Marine. [Sarcastically] Endsville What s this guy look like, Marty? Ya got a picture? FRENCHY Yeah, sure, but it s not too good. He ain t in uniform. [ takes a powder blue leatherette wallet out of her dresser or nightstand. It s one of those fat bulging ones with rubber bands around it.] I envy you. I don t know what I ever saw in Danny Zuko. Well, don t sweat it honey, have one of mine! [She swings the wallet open and an accordion picture folder drops at great length to the floor.] Jeez, you're turning into a one-woman U.S.O.! There's so many of them! I know! 1 ANGORA: Fluffy yarn, wrapped so that a boy s ring could be worn by a girl

How do you keep up with them all? I m a traffic penpal and I m hopelessly devoted to each and every one. [She passes it around.] Oh, Jan, here s the one.right next to Paul Anka. Hey, how come it s torn in half? Oh his old girlfriend was in the picture. What s this guys name, anyway? FRENCHY Oh, it s Alfredo. Alfredo Strulka, but I affectionately call him, Freddy. Do you write him a lot, Marty? FRENCHY Pretty much. Every time I get a present. Whattya say to a Marine in a letter, anyway?

Eugene / Sandy / Danny / Pink Ladies / Burger Palace Boys Act 1 Sc. 7 (Park) DOODY Hey, Danny, here comes that chick ya know. [ and EUGENE enter followed by the rest of the BOOKWORMS. EUGENE is wearing Bermuda shorts and argyle socks. They both have bags with leaves. and KENICKIE sit up to look. EUGENE You know, Sandy, I m taking chemistry next semester yeah, and your taking it too.and you know what? Maybe we could be lab partners or something [The BOOKWORMS flee in all directions. EUGENE is left alone.] Well, Sandy, I think I have all the leaves I want. Uh why don t I wait for you [Threatening.] With my DAD [To.] In the station wagon. [EUGENE begins to exit. follows his every move in a comical pas des deux. ultimately jumps in front of EUGENE and stares him down then outlines a square and pops him on the forehead with his palm. As EUGENE exits terrified one of the GUYS puts his foot out and he trips. walks away and puts his arm around. SONNY crosses to.] SONNY Hiya, Sandy. What s shakin? How bout a Coke? [Does she direct this to.] No thanks, I was only passing through. Oh, yeah? Then whattya doin hangin around? [ walks away and puts his arm around and looks at him, bewildered.] We came to collect leaves for Biology. [Crosses to FRENCHY.]

Hey, Frenchy, good luck at Beauty School, okay? Awww, thanks, sweetie. FRENCHY SONNY Hey, Sandy, I ve recently developed a new-found respect for biology and in collecting specimens for my personal collection, I saw some really neat yellow ones over by the drainage canal. C mon, I ll show ya! [SONNY grabs and drags her offstage.] DOODY Hey, Danny Ain t you gonna follow em? What for? She don t mean nothin to me. Yeah, sure, Zuko, every day now! Ya mean you ain t told em? Heey told us what? Yeah what, Rizz? Awww, nothin. Right, Zuko? KENICKIE KENICKIE Oh, come off it, Rizzo. Whattaya tryin to do, make us think she s like you? [KENICKIE laughs at his own wit.] What s that crack supposed to mean? I ain t heard you complainin. KENICKIE Yeah? That s cause ya never stop flappin your gums! Hey, cool it, huh!

Yeah Kenickie, if you don t shut up you re gonna get a knuckle sandwich. [Ad lib] You tell em Rizz. (etc.) Ohhhh, I m really worried [Approaches with a smile] Okay you slimeball PINK LADIES KENICKIE [Through gritted teeth.] Get ready! [ pushes KENICKIE off bench and they fight on the ground.] [Ad lib.] Fight! Fight! Yaaaaaay! (Etc.) ROGER / DOODY GIRLS [Ad lib as they separate them.] Come on, cut it out! What s happening? Crazy! (etc.) [ and KENICKIE stop fighting and glare at each other.] Jeez, what a coupla fruitcakes. Well, he started it! KENICKIE Man, what a yo-yo! Make one little joke and she goes tutti-frutti! [Stopping the girls from fawning all over her.] All right! Okay! KENICKIE

[With finality. Always needs the last word.] ALL RIGHT! DOODY You know, you two make a really cute couple.

Sandy / Danny Act 2 Sc. 2 (After Dance) [ appears standing at the sink in the girl s bathroom looking at herself in the mirror. Clearly she has been crying.] You ve hurt me once again, Danny Zuko. And once again I can t forget you [ enters.] There you are, Sandy! I ve been looking all over for you. Go back to your Cha-cha, Danny, and leave me alone. Who?...No, listen, Sandy, that was only a stupid contest. You know, I always imagined my senior year romance would be a completely different. Me, too. I m sorry. Saying sorry doesn t always work, Zuko. Look, I can never be sure of you. One minute you re wonderful and the next you re [weird I m always the same person you met at the beach?] [They have had this conversation before, he cuts her off.] Come on, what do you want me to do? It s like, everyone expects somethin different from me my parents the guys [our teachers coach my team.] [They have had this conversation before, SHE cuts HIM off.] Okay then. Go back to them. Be like them. See if I care! [ starts to leave.]

And you, what do you expect from me? [Steps back and gets close to him.] All I want is for you to be yourself! Myself? [ turns to leave again.] Sandy, wait Maybe we make it down to the drive-in? I already have the tickets. [ shows her the tickets he has just won at the dance contest. walks away without answering.] I ll call you!? [ smiles, but doesn t see her.]

Sandy / Danny (Burger Place Scene) [Heads turn as turns a corner and approaches them. She is the ultimate Greaser dream-girl, a wild new hair style over one ear, motorcycle jacket with Big D, skintight pedal pushers, gold earrings and gum chewing. She looks more alive than she ever has.] [slack-jawed in disbelief.] Sandy! That s my name, don t wear it out. To-tal! Wick-ed! So ya noticed, huh? Uh-huh. Tell me about it... BUD. [Looking him up and down.] So, really, what s with the square duds, dude? Well, I thought that you Zuko, we got wavelength trouble. When I m on yours, you ain t on mine. I changed for you and you changed for me. I d say that was some kinda wavelength. I still got my ring, but I guess you re still kinda mad at me, huh? [He reaches out for her hand. A little shyness creeps out from behind her façade. She smiles and takes his hand.] Nah. That s ancient history.

[He puts his ring on it. and hug.] Suppose we ll last? [ gives him a reassuring smile and puts her arm around him.] Only time will tell, Zuko. ARE YOU SURE? BOTH YES, I M SURE DOWN DEEP INSIDE
