MORNING ANNOUNCEMENTS December 14, 2016

Permission slips for the All School Field Trip were given to students. All completed and signed permission slips will be turned in only to Mrs. Prietz in the Auxiliary Gym before school and during P. E. classes. Students must take care of any and all obligations before forms are returned. The trip cost is $21.00 and all checks must be made out to Banneker Middle School. Students may also pay with cash. If you are unsure of an obligation please check with the media center specialist and/or the school financial secretary. This will be an exciting and fun-filled trip for everyone to enjoy. There are only 3 days remaining to collect money for the ASFT. There are only 22 spots remaining for roller skating. The last day for collection is Friday, December 16 th. Thanks Banneker P.E. Staff

6th grade students may use their bobcat bucks to purchase a ticket to a sweet treat decorating party! On Wednesday, December 21st during lunch, students who purchase tickets can come to room 121 to decorate the ultimate cookies and cupcakes. The cost is 10 bobcat bucks so save up! If you re interested in purchasing a ticket to this event, see Ms. McDonald Jr. in the morning before advisory to add your name to the list.

Today, Wednesday, December 14, if you brought 3 cans of food items you will receive a homework pass in advisory. The homework pass can be used for one homework assignment on December 14. Help others in need and earn a homework pass.

The girls will open up the basketball season against Loiderman at home and the boys will travel to Loiederman. Tickets will be sold for $1.00 today during lunch. The game will begin immediately after school. You will receive a ticket and band. You must have your band to enter into the game. All students attending the game will line up starting at the corner of the 8 th grade locker bank. Thanks for your support and I look forward to seeing you at the game. Go Bobcats! Mrs. Vails

Students attending Zoolights will have a rehearsal this morning, Wednesday, before school in the chorus room. We will meet from the time your bus drops you off and rehearse through advisory.

The Family Literacy Night is coming tonight, Wednesday, December 14. The evening will start with a Poetry Slam at 6 PM, featuring some of Banneker s finest literary talent. Pizza and light refreshments will be served. Family workshops will be held from 7 8:30 PM. Door prizes will be given out through the evening, ending with a gift basket full of books and other fun items. Please RSVP using the form sent home in English classes, or online at

As Christmas time approaches, many families are finding it harder and harder to keep food on the table. For some, money is tight and choosing between food for the family and gifts for the kids is hard to do. This is why the Banneker SGA needs the help of the students and staff to collect 1,500 canned food items for this year s Canned Food Drive. You will also have chances to win gift cards to popular stores (Best Buy, Game Stop) and restaurants (Chipotle, Starbucks). Nonperishable items will be collected through Thursday, December 22. Canned goods, such as corn, green beans, and soup, boxed goods, such as mashed potatoes, and jars, such as jams and yams are accepted. Please do not bring perishable items such as onions and potatoes. They will go bad before another family has the opportunity to eat them. Please check the expiration date on cans and boxed goods to make sure the item has not expired. All goods given will be taken to the Branch Area Food Pantry and distributed in Christmas food baskets. Christmas is a time of giving. Give the ultimate gift this year by helping Banneker Students get involved with our community by giving to people in need. Please help by bringing canned goods for the 2016 Canned Food Drive.

BBMS is going to a Wizards game on January 31, The BBMS chorus will sing the National Anthem, and the BBMS cheerleaders with perform the pre-game show. Tickets cost $25 and will be on sale until December 30 th. Banneker will receive two dollars off of every ticket we sell, so bring a parent and come out to enjoy the game. The Fundraising Committee

This is a reminder that after school activities are only held on Wednesdays and Thursdays. Please check with your sponsor to see what day and room your club will be meeting.
